Two days ago I knew nothing about KDP and now here I am on your page. Keep the videos coming. Us the newbies and I guess the not so new appreciate them so much!!
@@paulmarles thank you. As we speak I have 11 books made now with new ones on the way this week. I am still waiting on reviews to be settled with so they can be on the market.
Thanks for this great tutorial. The video was a great, hands-on practical demonstration. (And @Marjo - regarding what is cheap or of value - the book-buying market determines that, regardless of how many hours an artist put into a piece.)
Paul, exactly what I am looking for. Suggestion break up first image into one video, then children's photo and illustration conversion into second. But still all good, Thank you.
Paul, I LOVE your tutorials! I may now need to invest in AI and it is something I should have done a long time ago. I am over the whole vector image thing, can't seem to make it work for me. I like this much better! Thank you. :-)
I appreciate your effort, however, I personally would never buy a coloring book at this quality. Edit: I just watched a couple more vids this morning and they were excellent. After coming back to this video, I need to correct my statement above, because it wasn't 100% accurate. First off, you're showing us techniques, not selling us a book. Secondly, there are some great techniques, and a bad one or two, which led me to my initial statement... but, again, you're not trying to sell those to us as books. And lastly, I think I'll stick around because you have some great advice overall!
Thank you so much for the great, thoughtful tutorials, they really help me as a novice. I'll tell you that some of your videos refuse to load for me, I just get the "spinning arrows"..... just mentioning in case you weren't aware. Thank you for the inspiration & encouragement. 🙏
Great tips Paul and thanks. I'm using Inkscape for my vector drawing and most of my POD graphics, so I'll see if they have the same tools as AI for these tasks.
You’ve given me all the info I ever wanted and needed about coloring books! Thank you! Any chance we can get these instructions via Inkscape?! Maybe too much to ask! Lol You’re awesome!!! Thanks!
check out logos by nick on youtube. He has some of the best inkscape tuts. to do what Paul has done today in inkscape you would use the PATH>TRACE BITMAP option. Play with the settings.
Thanks Paul this opens up lots of possibilities. The problem now is I have too much content to create for books and not enough time. Have you looked at getting a Virtual Assistant to help with creating interiors?
Not for books. Some time ago I had virtual assistants creating content for websites that I was building. Website I used was onlinejobs.ph Not sure if it is still around.
Hey Paul, thanks for all the info but is it possible that you can do a video on how to find an illustrator to do the images for you,for those who are not to artistic and savy on how to edit the videos as you did.
This is amazing. As a colorist myself, I would find those images way too busy, a bit toouch like paint by number, is there a way to erase some more of the lines?
To sell books on Amazon through KDP do you have to register with HMRC for the income purpose and be a business seller, just working on book covers thanks to your good informative videos they are brilliant
I'm not a tax adviser but when I first started on KDP I didn't register with the HMRC but declared the income as a sole trader. Later on I then formed a company.
Thank you so much! I can't wait to try this. I have had Adobe Creative/Photoshop added to my new laptop, but have not learned anything on it yet...so just some tips on the simplification of the process is help enough. It's a blessing for those of us stuck home a lot to be able to produce work from videos like this. Blessings!
@@sovereignsoulutions6612 I would suggest if you can afford it to pay for Designer and Publisher. Both are brilliant packages and bring different aspects
O now I see okay just have to buy Adobe illustrator thanks. Question okay can you change normal family pictures to animated images for a comic book? Or can Adobe illustrator change photos to animation?
there are 7 days free trial on illustrator on adobe.com however remember to cancel immediately if you dont want to pay 120$ year subscription and to click the pay per month option, so if you forget to cancel only have to pay for one month of use (also adobe will ask you for your creditcard nr btw in the registering process that is the only downside).
Affinity designer doesn't have image trace unfortunately. You would have to use 3rd party software such as vectornator if you are going to use this process to create these interiors in Affinity Designer.
The photograph usage is ok with you to work on it (assuming the photo license allows it) with the effects but using other peoples artwork like that? That's teft.
I have just started low content book publishing. Bookbolt doesn't give me images. What is a free software that gives me images for the cover and inside
Paul, I think there's been an update to illustrator or something. I've been following step-by-step, but when you change stroke from blue to black, I don't see that. Advise appreciated brother.
Hi Paul, thanks for all your hard work. Do you know if there is a tool in Inkscape that gets the job done like the "Effect ->Artistic -> Cutout" that you talk about ? Thanks so much.
I'm not sure. It's not a piece of software I use. It does most of the functions that Illustrator does. The bestthing to do id Google or search on UA-cam. Lots of great tutorials out there.
@@paulmarles i wasn’t expecting an answer so thanks a lot ! I’ll keep playing around, found something but doesn’t make the picture look like a coloring book image. Did you see the video about the guy from Russia who redraws the Shrek image ? It’s also a great way to get a neat job done 😄
Hi my brother paul.I am a subscriber of your channel.and Thank you very much for this valuable information . I would like to ask you about the cover sizes.

Capt Paul. Great video as always and you are right about doing your owe due diligence images you use BUT this is a bigger subject and may I suggest a video in it's own right. Each of our projects have a number of elements; the research; the book creation; the after publication in basic terms. How do you manage all this information, do you have a method of storing all this stuff maybe a nested project folder structure. But returning to the beginning of this message if sometime later someone challenges your use of an image or suggests a breach of IP or TM, how to prove you did the due diligence? I personally have a folder in my nested project folder structure to store this sort of information - screenshots of the license for each image with a linked thumbnail Any thoughts ?
My only concern with using KDP's print-on-demand service for coloring books is the paper quality. KDP is going to print on 55# 90 g/m2 paper. Even if we make it known, on the cover, or in the listing that our coloring books are for crayon or colored pencil use only, we are still going to have one bad review after the other from people who used markers. I'm 100% ready to go. I turned my previously published children's picture book into a coloring book. The images were already there, I only needed to remove the color and enlarge them. I'm going to upload it, and request a proof. With any luck I'll be wrong about the quality I expect.
I love your videos, but please can you make a design using inkscape. I'm finding it difficult to trace all this on inkscape. I practically would love it it you repeat this but using inkscape so I can repeat the process

Do people actually buy coloring books with those kinds of images? It looks nothing like a lion in my opinion??
Use this as a guideline, the images are completely editable. You can use these steps as a starting point. It can still be helpful! :)
