      any chance you could do a similar tutorial on your timeline/historical eras charts at some point? i'm thinking of a similar format to do a comic book chronology project, but am not a technical person at all... as bonus content, thank you for sharing material like this!

    For April Fools Day, you should upload a video called "Useless Charts" where you make a chart that connects Chandragupta to the invention of microwaveable popcorn or something crazy like that.

    Great job, Matt. I love your work.
    Could you also make a video about which sources do you usually use to make the family trees (like books or even the Internet itself)?
    Ispired by you I'm currently trying to make charts of (what I think is) the greatest genealogy work of Brazil called "Genealogia Paulistana" which refers to the Genealogy of the old Province of São Vicente/São Paulo (since the 16th century), which covered more than half of Brazil's territory.

    Aw, I'm just coming from the Libre Office video and I was so happy that such a good content creator was using and disseminating open source software! But now I'm a little sad to see that the design industry won and took him to the dark side (Adobe)...

    I’m not sure if you’re notified when someone posts a question, but here goes. You and I are highly similar in being visual learners. I’ve created numerous graphs/charts in my years as a student/teacher, but not your wonderful level. Q. Between LibraOffice and AdobeIllustrator, which program’s UI is the most intuitive, well organized, user friendly, and refined? I do know some about the early deep design theory behind Apple’s Mac UI.

    Also. If you use the pen tool you can draw lines, and if you draw a line with a corner, you can do the same thing you did with the rectangle to round the corner

  • @LA6NPA
    @LA6NPA Місяць тому

    When aligning objects (let's say 2 objects) and you don't want one of them (say a square under a text field) to move (so you don't have to realign it), select both objects like you did, then click on the square you don't want to move. Now notice you went from two thin blue outlines (color depends on layer you're working in, blue for bottom layer as standard) to one with a thin outline (text field) and one with a thick outline (square you clicked on). You have now chosen a master object, and the other chosen object will be aligned in relation to that, instead of both objects moving in relation to the other. I.e., the square doesn't move.
    Also, text, by default, does not resize when you change the shape of the field. Change the width of the field (for centered text) to the width of the square for instant left/right centering on the square.
    Instant quarter circle line: Use the arc tool and hold down shift.
    Pen tool (with shift key) lets you easily make more complex lines with right angle corners, far fewer lines to draw discretely and move into place to create corners. If you don't make them too complex, they're also easily resized, as if it were a rectangle. An "[" shape, for instance, is perfect to resize and move and copy, much easier than three discreet lines.
    Source: I've done a lot of layout and design. And I should say, that even if it's great to work in and does the job, Illustrator is probably not the Adobe app you should use for stuff like this. This is basically basic layout work, and InDesign is actually a lot better suited (but also a complex app and not every tool you need is the same). But yeah. Illustrator works fine. Stick with that if you haven't done much layout for books and magazines and such.
    Anyway, your vids are super interesting, and I really haven't done any complex charts, and I'm inspired to try! Will join the reddit community and post my stuff there! Already have an idea!

  • @polyglot8

    One can do almost all of this in Powerpoint, although I can see the big advantage of Adobe Illustrator (from your video because I've never tried it) in terms of the large scale scope of your charts and the very fine grid. I had to laugh when I saw you fragment the circle into a piece of curve. You could actually do this in Freelance for DOS - OK, I'm showing my age here! For some reason, the feature was lost when Freelance switched to Windows (and also absent in Powerpoint, which basically copied Freelance, in the beginning).

    Almost of your charts have sold out!...Maybe. But how big or long is your "portrait-oriented" chart before it is sold? Is it a reverse 1920 x 720 pixels? If you do, I would say it will be a challenging to place those rectangular name tags and lines!

    • @lance.dollesin.42
      @lance.dollesin.42 2 роки тому

      What I do mean is that the width would be 720 pixels wide then length would be 1920 pixels long. Instead of 1920 pixels wide and 720 pixels long. Landscape to portrait, all that stuff...

    Matt Baker is a theist and a Jew……. Does Matt know his tribe? God’s Love and all Jews shall be saved, God said through Paul...
    Romans 11:26--And so, all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, there shall come out of Sion the Deliverer and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
    Evolution God’s Love and the Lord Jesus Christ wants all men to be saved and that is why salvation is free for all.
    Definition of theist-: a believer in theism: a person who believes in the existence of a god or gods specifically: one who believes in the existence of one God viewed as the creative source of the human race.
    Matt Baker will be going to Heaven, his soul shall in Heaven. Evolution did you get that. Matt lives in America as a scattered abroad.
    1 James, a servant of God and the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
    2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into diver’s temptations; 3 knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
    God (Jesus) came from Heaven and died for the sin of Adam (Humanity). Evolution too can be saved through faith alone.
