- In this video I will show you how to move larges mount of video files from your Dish hopper to your external hard drive.
When you first try it it will say not enough space .
This video will show you how I did it & so far I've moved over 1,000 episodes back to my main external hard drive it's 2 sets of shows I like to watch..
Only able 250 episodes at a time max is a real pain but it can be done.
Dish network has made it a pain I don't know why .
I hope this video is as much help to you as it was for me to learn

Can you transfer movies from the DVR to a flash drive? I only ask because there is a flash drive slot in the front of the Hopper.
It has to be a powered external western digital hard drive no more that a 2 terabyte hard drive because anything bigger will fry the USB port they know it’s a known problem that’s why they say use a 1 terabyte but if you move a lot at one time it will fry it to
Make sure before you move anything to a hard drive make sure you have their equipment warranty paid up they will swap it out for free
If not you’re stuck paying for it
As far as I know flash drives don’t work
Sorry for the long answer just trying to save you money time & headache I went through
@@VitiatedsHOWTO Thank you.🙏
Is there any way to force the hopper to reformat the external hdd? My ext hdd is no longer showing up in the settings, I think the formatting failed
If it doesn’t show up then it won’t format
Use another USB port

If that doesn’t work
Call dish & tell them your drive isn’t showing up & make them send you a new one & that should solve the problem
@@VitiatedsHOWTO My external hard drive has been working fine and now the DVR isn't recognizing it....I've tried everything and bought a new USB cord and nothing. Any suggestions?
how did you find the original picture tou started out with
paul eller internet business channel in setting
Enjoyed and subscribed... what brand and how many TB is your EHD? I record Ancient Aliens series on my sister's dish Joey hopper and I have around 60 episodes on one thumbnail and 2 or 3 episodes on two other thumbnails... I desperately need to learn how to transfer them all to a EHD but I need to buy a nice usable EHD that can do this? I have been transferring some to DVD via analog rca cables but the quality is no where even slightly near as good as the HDMI is plugged into the tv.. I have not deleted any yet but have about 20 episodes transferred to DVD but I have to be there to do so manually... I would love to know how to plug a EHD to the joey hopper and program it to automatically transferred chosen episodes like you just did? I would greatly appreciate your assistance my friend. Thanks

what kind of external hard drive are u using? cause I bought a. my book external hard drive and it was working before but now I can get it to transfer. any suggestions PLEASE..I NEED HELP` Jenny from Minnesota. thank you.
Go into the settings and do a partial reset.
I'm sorry for getting back so late it just notified my main hard drive is a western digital book 2 terabyte I have found that western digital works best with hopper the hoppers software can go up to a 5 terabyte but it's not too stable if you move over 50gigs at a time
I can't transfer 15 half hour shows without the stupid Hopper freezing up constantly. You notice that you didn't see a prompt saying the files were transferred and you go back and look and it says "0 minutes left" even though the transfer didn't work. The software is absolute garbage. So many issues with the Hopper 3 when it comes to external hard drives.
The external hard drive I've been using is western digital my book essential 2 terabyte I've used it on all 3 systems I've gotten from dish over the years & it has never failed me
Dish swears that u can use any
Have you tried using the other 2 USB ports on the receiver you should have 3 total
@@VitiatedsHOWTO my dvr from Dish only has one USB port...and it's not reading the external hard drive that has been working find for the last year. Ugh. Any ideas?
is there any way to transfer recordings from a crashed Dish receiver??
Dale Anich Far as I know you had to have an MSDOS system to even attempt it MS-DOS system is the original computer system so you can try it that way but far as I know you can’t because I use the same hard drive as what you would use for your external and if you’re on disk crashes then it’s more likely crashing because the hard drives messed up
How I could i watch it on my computer? With the external hard drive?
RogueTubeUnit9022 I haven’t found a program yet to do that
@@VitiatedsHOWTO ok but thank for videos they help alot!
RogueTubeUnit9022 👍
So don't you have to have a Dish receiver to watch it ? Meaning it will have to be put back to play it on the TV
U have to have the original receiver that recorded it
U don’t have to have dish service as long as that receiver isn’t locked
@@VitiatedsHOWTO that f sucks... I don't have a dish receiver... using my sister's dish Joey to record Ancient Aliens series and have transferring some of the episodes to my Sony portable dvd burner via rca cables which is totally sucks quality opposed to the HDMI connection to the tv.... when transferred with rca cables you are converting digital to analog and the back to digital and lose so much quality... ie 4k becomes standard consumer grade quality DVD or lesser... very noticeable difference in quality loss...
I have no idea what you're talking about , deleting but don't delete too many! Yet you're saving these idk !! Sounds fd up, saying be careful! Be careful, do it fast bla bla bla
Do it fast or you'll lose em all ? 😑😕😕
If you do too many at once it messes up the USB port on the Ben there done that
terrible explanations. You are disorganized and your only covering Hopper. DVR only once deleted is done. NO WAY to recover those files.
Hopper is the only system I was using at the time
