    So far, Audials is terrible software. I purchased it, the 2023 version, it stops recording midway, it throws errors almost at the end of recrording it says error and didn't save anything. The things it does record, the audio is out of sync something awful. Promote it if you like but I'm not renewing this crappy software. I'm an IT tech person and have great computer build with 13700K and 2080 TI video card and this software so far doesn't work correctly or reliably. Beware!

      I have mixed opinions about these types of softwares. I’ve tried a couple with free trial licenses and they work exactly as you mention: a lot of interruptions and sometimes it cannot record some streams period. So far this one has given me a lot of hope for a better product and since you’re the only one I could find here with a negative review I think I’m gonna go and give it a try anyway.

    Nice but I would caution people to be careful recording music. I haven't heard as much about Amazon and the other music services. However, Spotify is cracking down hard. If you use the direct option, Spotify has implemented technology to see that you are recording and will suspend your account. Using the other soundcard option is probably the safest option if you plan to record anything from them.

      From what I understand, the activity that they can "see" is an accelerated rip. Why would someone want to listen to a song at 3x speed? If you listen to the song at normal speed, it is almost impossible to tell if you are listening or recording. Sound card or software is going to look exactly the same to their system... just don't accelerate the rip, it always messes with the timings anyway. Enjoy the music.

    • @linuxzero7283
      @linuxzero7283 2 роки тому

      @@PeterC408 You are correct but the high-speed feature is not the only way Spotify can detect the activity. You also need to be careful with the drag & drop option. This is straight from Audials: "The "Drag music from XYZ to Audials" mode controls the streaming software remotely in order to play the desired music. This creates a certain "pattern" (all songs are played individually), which could be detected." Either way, I think it's a great program and have been using the program since it was Audials Tunebite.

    Maybe I am misunderstanding but the problem with this would seem to be that you would either have to babysit it to record and stop at just the right time or edit it after the recording is finished. Even worse if you have a hiccup with your internet I assume that will become part of the recording as well.

    There are shows that disappear. One that I liked was called Not Exactly News. It was funny and I had all of the episodes except #6. At one point, MTV hosted the shows to be played directly from their website for free. I captured it using some software, but buffering made it skip a lot. A few months later, I went back to try re-capturing and maybe it wouldn't buffer. At this point, MTV deleted all the episodes. So, I took my old capture and edited out the buffer problems. I don't have a perfect copy, but I may have the only one around - I haven't found that episode anywhere on the internet. If you like something, save it! Between censorship, digital rights and websites reclaiming hard drive space, it may just disappear forever.

    It doesn’t seem to work for an Apple family.
    We are Macs, iPads, and iPhones galore. Also, when I clicked on your link, it appears that three different packages have to be purchased… One for music, another for movies, and a third radio stations and podcasts.

  • @dmartinpolley1143

    One of the most important features of a DVR is being able to schedule recordings. This package does not do that, therefore you saying it is like a VCR is misleading. I wasted another 15 minutes of my life watching your video and reading comments before I discovered this fact. For some it is a great video, but please change the title.

    • @PeterC408
      @PeterC408  2 роки тому

      With all do respect, It is a stream that you are recording. It starts when you start it. Time is irrelevant . Stop holding on to preconceived concepts - Netflix does not come on at a certain time, it comes on when you click play. Same with Amazon, Hulu, Apple, Curiosity Channel, Spotify, etc. Saying it was like a VCR helped people understand its purpose and legality... we are recording and not downloading that is what I meant. Just curious, if you were going to record NetFlix, what time would you set it to?

    • @dmartinpolley1143
      @dmartinpolley1143 2 роки тому

      @@PeterC408 I'll give you an example from last night. We are tennis fans and there were two matches at the Australian Open that I wanted to record but they started at 2:00 AM and 4:00 AM. I went to bed at midnight, and using the OBS recorder I had just installed on my new laptop I had the channel streaming on my PC from 12:00 midnight until 8:00 AM.....8 hours!!! If I had the capability to schedule these recordings I would have two shorter recordings using less resources and more convenient to watch. When I had cable, I loved the fact that I didn't have to watch live T.V. any more (but hated paying $170/month) and now that I have ditched cable and gone to streaming I have even better DVR capability with my main T.V. resource youtubeTV which includes unlimited DVR. I just record what I want to watch and don't have to put up with all the disgusting commercials that insult our intelligence. It improves the experience 1000000%. Your explanation mistakenly assumes that all streaming is spur of the moment, when it is not. Some streaming is actually scheduled making the DVR/VCR capability a great feature. There is another recorder that I just found named Ice Cream that does allow you to schedule recordings, and that is the one I will probably end up using. Your set up is excellent, you are a couple of levels in knowledge and sophistication above me, So have some mercy on the streaming proletariat because to us VCR capability equates to the world we came from.......f'ing cable.

    I'm definitely giving this video a like. Like you Peter, I'm a media collector. Whether it be, movies, or TV series, documentaries,sport, music videos, pretty much anything. I reckon I've got 1800 movies and about 800 TV series, including multiple seasons, or all seasons of many of them, and I'm still adding to it. I run Plex with 2 x 1 TB NVME drives, 1 x 8TB SATA internal drive, and a Synology 2 bay NAS server, currently populated with one 10 TB NAS drive.
    Unfortunately, here in Australia, we are limited to which streaming services available to us because even using a VPN we can't sign up for services like HULU, or HBO Max because sign up requires a zip code that matches your credit card. I get quite a bit of content via torrents and the Usenet, so I make do. Still, it would be nice to be able to use those services. That for the tip on Audials, I've just installed it so I'll give it a go.

    Lol, that you think this is legal... That website can say anything about it not breaking copy protection. But it literally does, that's how these things work. The fact that you can do it, does not mean that it's legal. They only say it's not breaking those streams because while you're subscribed (in trial) you have a license to use it. If you drop that account, you do not have a license. Even if you used the app to save it. It's still illegally breaking protection. Don't fool yourself. You are still downloading when you make a stream, as it downloads local cache to make a buffer stream. Still counts, and is still illegal because you have a right to stream with an account. NOT download nor keep.

    Just too bad it only works with a computer. No app or interface for a Smart TV - at least not mine.......
    As it is, I connect two SSD drives to my TV (USB) with the content (Videos, Music and Photos) and use the TV's interface to play/show the content. No 'flashy' interface like the Plex you show, but I can still view/play the drives content on the TV, and the only cost was 2 drive enclosures as I already had the discs from some old computers, and an external BD-DVD-CD reader and some misc. applications to convert the different discs - cost point: less that 200 for the additional hardware/software to interface with the TV and make the backups.

    Peter, thanks for getting back to me. If you could provide just a little more detail I would appreciate it. I have just started using a NAS at my house so I am on a steep learning curve. Several quick questions: 1. Do you save from Audials directly to the NAS or do you send the file to the computer first? 2. Can you load and run Audials from the Synology NAS somewhat like you run PLEX from the NAS? It appears from what I have read, that cannot be done. 3. Did you set up separate directories on the NAS in the PLEX group of directories for Audials copies of media; i.e. do you save to the Movies director or did you set us a separate directory something like Audials Movies or Audials Music.

    • @PeterC408
      @PeterC408  2 роки тому +2

      1. Save to the Computer First.
      2. Plex has a program for the NAS drive - Audials does not. It makes more sense on a big PC with plenty of resources. The Synology server, while cool, only has so much power and is no match for my i7-7770 processor with 32GB of DRAM.
      3. Plex recommends storing your files in a certain directory structure. I, having a blank drive, adopted it as my own.

    I tried something like this before, and the color was off slightly. I think it was PlayOn. It did an okay job, but it didn't seem to have the same quality as the original. So, any thoughts?
    Also, be nice if someone kept doing research on topics like this. This is really needed to be solved. Because, my reason is to record things (say things that have commercials -- like Hulu), then skip over them as I watch it later. That's my goal. And, Prime Video is now also starting to want to do commercials, and I'm not sure I want to pay $3 more a month to not have that. Because I don't watch it that much. Same with Paramount. Peter, My main goal is to be able record my tv shows and watch them on the road in may RV. Most of the time I have a good enough wifi with my T-Mobile cellular Gateway in my RV. I'm using a black box Tablo DVR at home but the new white round Tablo does not support retrieving recorded shows remotely, I don't know hwy they discontinue that function on the new lease Tablo. To make all this work II have to make sure my Firestick using the Tablo remote app gets it's hand shake on my home network then I can install the Firestick back into my RV and it will allow me to retrieve my recorded shows from the home Tablo box. Occasionally the Tablo app on my RV Firestick would get corrupted or deleted and I losose the Table network hand shake between home and RV and there's no way to establish the hand shake without not being home with both devices the same network. So I guess with these problems I'm having is I'm looking for another way to recorded my TV shows from home and then access the recordings on the road in my RV. I hope this all makes sense. I can't watch all my shows live on the road since I may not have access to the local channels in a remote area. Maybe there's a streaming app like Sling or something that allows you to record all yours shows and then pull them down from the cloud DVR to watch on the road. Any suggestions?

      Great question but wrong thread. Ask this on a TabloTV thread. Perhaps your saving grace will be PLEX. Store your TV on PLEX and then view it remotely.

    Can it record Vudu movies. I have a big library nowadays because of digital codes from buying Blu-rays.

      Yes, if you can decode it to display it on your screen, it will record it. 😮😎

    Thanks for the video. Have you been able to copy movies and retain 5.1 surround sound?

      Ah, I can't believe it.. It's a new feature. It does retain 5.1 sound. It is an option. That is new! 2022

    "We're not downloading their stuff, we're literally just making a copy of it" which is, ummm DOWNLOADING IT!
    I can't wait to get this and use it too, lol.

      Technically, it is not .... if you think about copying a stream... you are copying the commercials tooo. Thus it is a copy and not a downlad. Now, it might be a bitch'in download with no commercials but... it could be. Comcast has a DVR, UA-camTV has a DVR, SlingTV has a DVR, DishTV has a DVR.... now you have one too. Buy it! You will not be sorry ever again..... until you get married. lol

    Sorry, very confused. Is there a way to download movies to a CD or is it some kind of software? You mention backing up to something but I don't know what. Is there any way you can explain this to idiot lol?

      When I was a kid I bought the record, "Dark Side of the Moon". I later bought it on tape, then CD, delux gold CD, Laser Disk, DVD, MP3 128, 256, 320 bit versions... See that is the same content but on different media. This program is storing songs and movies on a hard disc digitally without media. Now, I can do what I want. I can put my music on a flash drive and take it in the car. I can take a video and put it on a flash drive and put it on TV. I can put songs & video directly on my phone for use when I want ( I now I have a Bill Withers song as my ring tone). If you want to put Movies on a DVD and there are software programs that will do that, but you would need to get the video first and that is where this software comes in. Hope that helps.

    Can you set it to record (start and stop) at a certain time or for a certain time for unattended recordings?

      TV has changed. We are looking to capture streams that can be started at anytime. So the good news is no start/stop time but you need to be there to do that.

    LOL @ “The crazy TV”
    If “some people” would just give it a chance, it’s 1000X better than “cable tv packages”
    Some people are just set in there ways, unfortunately lol 🤦🏻

      I have learned that it is not for everyone. Some people are just dumb and there is nothing that you can do for them. Others are unwilling to sacrifice anything and I can't help those people as well. For the adventuresome, it's just amazing.

      I have not deleted a single comment, but I do have it setup to block my viewers from seeing any profanity (that's a UA-cam provided option). If you have something to say, say it without the profanity and it should post.

    Why do you hide comments?

    • @PeterC408

      Hide comments? The UA-cam algorithm will automatically hide any comments that use poor language or try to post a link. Did you do one of those. Sometime if you put a period and no space, it thinks it is a link and holds it for review but generally, I do not hide comments. This is an amazing piece of software.

    All this music and movie downloading sounds fishy to me. This looks like copyright infringement pure and simple. It will be only OK until the music and movie police come knocking on your door. As for storing family pictures and videos in one secure place it sounds like a great idea. Our earliest
    stuff is mostly on video tape. Did not go digital until prices came doin to a reasonable !evel. Any idea if that software could transfer the tapes over? I would like to do it before my last VHS recorder dies or if anyone has a better suggestion to do it.

      This is NOT Downloading... it is recording. Have you heard of a VCR? That was an analog recording. Have you heard of a DVR? That is a digital recording. Have you heard of TIVO? How about XFinity? UA-camTV? Philo? They all let you record digitally. This is the same thing just using your PC. Yes, this will copy anything you can put on your screen but you might also like this older video ua-cam.com/video/gUWv5eAXLoc/v-deo.html
