The fact you took the time to do this video on top of doing the exact build sheet with part numbers and specs. That shows you the real deal car guy. Us people that love this thing want to enjoy the same thing you have built and no one shares that much info. That is something in itself that is greatly appreciated. 🙏🏻

I like the kind of rough, no to street friendly setup. The rough idle, the noise. In a world of over sanitized, too clean pain, and cars that look more show than go, it’s refreshing.

The idea of "over building" something implies that there is a misalignment between the goal and the result of the build. Some folks like the build process, some like the driving, some like the show scene, some focus on racing/competition. The nature of the build should align with the intended use, and it can be a serious bummer if you spend a bunch of time, effort, money, and emotion on building a car one way just to find out it's not good at whatever you chose, or that it's not what you really wanted/needed. But what I infer from this video is that you have maybe changed a bit of what you want from the build since finishing this version. Nothing wrong with that. It may be exactly what you set out to build, even reaching a kind of actualized ideal. But it doesn't have to remain as-is if it can be something (you deem) better.

you summed it up very well. I'm only a year younger than Craig and yeah.. what you wanted 4-6 years ago most likely will have changed slightly due to more knowledge, experience, priorities, etc. It's why gearheads usually have multiple cars.. but also far too many get in over their heads with expectations sometimes too.

Personally, I'd like to see some NVH and comfort improvements, considering it's already a weapon.
MLV with a foam decoupling layer sound deadener.
Semi bucket seats with a lapsash is an excellent idea, as you've said.
A reverse camera would be a nice addition in this age of small parking spaces and gigantic trucks/SUVs.
Exhaust redirection valve to cut over to the biggest mufflers you can fit.
GPS headunit to tie in with the camera, but integrated with the original aesthetic.
Do you have AC in that rig? Always a winner.
I'm not sure what options you have regarding a change in cam profile/lift/duration to improve the idle and whether an organic clutch option exists that works with that box and your driving style.

Maybe something like a first gen mustang but with a drivetrain that can attain a reasonable mpg (maybe around 20), AC, and some features like audio, sound deadening, etc? Sounds like the exhaust might be one thing to change since you mentioned several times being self-conscious. Accordingly, it would be cool to see before-and-after chassis dyno results comparing the current exhaust to one that goes up, over the rear axle, and exits out the sides. I'd be very interested to see the effect of the additional exhaust path changes of direction. I have a '69 Bronco with a 426 Windsor and the only mufflers I could package (due to the complexity of my rear suspension) were Magnaflows with the inlets and outlets at the same end of the muffler so the exhaust has to go in, make a U-turn, and then come back out. I love the sound but I wonder how much performance I'm sacrificing.

I can't afford these 1000+ hp builds with suspension and drivetrain parts to match! 400-600hp is plenty for street applications. If you're going to the track, that's different. Its a fun truck but I might need to swap out the cam for a more streetable one. It sounds pretty rad at idle and stop lights but doesn't really make power till 2500 and up. Definitely a difference between low end power big block and top end power small block. It does get a wee bit better mpg from 10-12 to 12-14 🤷🏽‍♂️

For the intended purpose, no. To make it more roadtrippable, maybe better belts, maybe '69 Mustang seats, since they have head restraints (save the race seats for when it's actually on track), retune the carb a bit as you were saying, then add some cutouts and a full exhaust that exits at the rear end. One with larger mufflers, so it'll be quieter until the switch is hit. At that point, the current exhaust would be used.

@@damianlindsey6177 I think the main point was Craig having the option of quiet vs. loud for traveling. I didn't know your issue was where the exhaust exited. I don't like exhaust tips under the bumper either so I have just had it tucked behind the rear bumper with turn downs.
But I have not owned a quite vehicle in the 25 years I have been driving. I'm old now so last year I used a long case Walker quite flow on my catless Silverado with headers and it's very mellow. Zero drone and just a very slight exhaust note.

I will challenge you when I have my 66 c10 built. So I’ll see you in a few years. But as far as what should be done to the truck, I think it might eventually benefit from some suspension upgrade and maybe a custom frame one day

Try a cam with slightly less duration but with a wider 114 LSA. Comp CCA-35-775-8 236/248-114 0.579 lift.

A street tire drags series might be fun... I figure that's the best way to get the real daily drivers out... guys out on 200+ treadwear tires... but maybe it's silly to even try that that on the strip.

Dude I love this truck the way it is. But food for thought I think it would be bad ass to have a 500hp 71 truck with ac. You said you want to drive it more and ac would be nice on 100 plus days. Keep up the awesome work.

Just make a second exhaust setup with super10’s? For me they are extremely streetably quiet so it might work while still being nice and meaty. What I do is I will bump my muffler to about .5” over pipe size to help that high rpm flow if your really worried about that

Only thing I would change about this truck, is induction and exhaust. As awesome as it sounds, I couldn't live with it. Throw an ITB or twin 2-bbl induction on it, and replace the X-pipe with a single Flowmaster 50 series Big Block SUV dual-in/dual-out.

Definitely paying for the patreon to get the full specs. Only thing in curious about is if it would all work with a stock 289 crank. Not against a 302 crank, just saving a few dollars would help.

C-4 trans 3800 stall converter with a gear venders over drive unit . Put center console out of a 71 mustang and good belts to keep you safe. This would let you drive it like a stick shift and do burn outs and cruise down the highway best of both worlds and does not change the truck alot
