So man I’m in same position got my dash torn apart replaced starter and relay well then I noticed no square around park symbol I kept telling buddy’s that we’re working on it no one payed attention i knew that had to be something so is it the roster come and that wire or just roster comb. Good video definitely helpful thumbs up bud
I’ve got the same exact truck and it’s doing the same exact thing. We just replaced both batteries and the starter and all of the battery cables and it’s doing the same thing yours did. I kind of suspected it was something with the neutral safety switch as we tested the relay yesterday. I’m gonna go back and do what you did and see if that fixes my issue.
Thanks man that was the exact problem but I did find the broken wire it was in the harness next to the transmission. Now that that's fixed truck starts but I do not have any indicator lights or drive or any other. And the fun goes on and on
men thanks to share this information it is a great help my transmission blew to pieces and i need rebuild it but before that need to start the engine again, hope it works on my 2500 2007 , can give one opinion about the true to resolve the problems of this trucks better option is swap to manual ? what transmission can works ? thanks have a great day follow you from argentina
@@americantruck3943 thanks for your information, maybe in my country is very hard to find one , but do you know if any pickup or suv have that nv5600 six speed transmission to check thanks a lot i really apprecciate your help
I’m having starting issues with my 06. I did the Allison 1000 swap from Caconversions it shows PRNDM1 on their gear indicator but on the original gear indicator the boxes are blank and won’t start. I used a jumper wire that feeds the solenoid and it starts and works fine, I called them they told me to check all the wiring and I did, everything looks good. The weird thing was the gear indicator was working but only on the (1) on the trucks indicator. I would turn the key forward “quickly”and it started now it doesn’t do anything anymore.
Also I had a buddy use his snap on scanner and the trucks ecm is showing the 48re is in 3rd gear🤔 and when the truck is running in park it honks when I open the door.
@@DanielFernandez-pg4zc when the truck has no signal from the transmission being plugged in it defaults to third gear.... I believe when you install one of those ca conversion Allison transmissions you have to tune the trucks ECM as if it had a manual transmission from the factory.....
The way the PRND21 display works is as follows..... The starter solenoid relay grounds out through the transmissions rooster comb when it is in the park and neutral position... The rooster comb has a plastic cover over it to ensure that the neutral safety switch only grounds out in park and neutral... So you need to make sure that your Allison transmission that you installed has a provision to send those exact same signals to the starter relay so the engine will start properly...
That would probably fix the problem. If I tune it to a manual to get rid of the PRND21 I appreciate the response I’m really scratching my head over this one I thought it was a plug and play. Dave and Casey told me I shouldn’t have to flash the truck but maybe I do.
The gear indicator Caconversions sent me shows the truck is in park reverse neutral drive everything works when I pull down the 08+ Gear shifter they sent me. But on the trucks side it’s showing nothing haha the transmission Communicates to me shows all the shift points and temperature runs like a freight liner literally feels like a heavy duty commercial truck.
I believe the ECM controls the grounding signal to the start relay? If the ECM works fine for everything else, then yeah, the ground splice is probably an easy fix over spending $1k on a replacement ECM.
I have a 06 2500 w/ Cummins. I dont have a relay like you were showing (around or under the fuse box). any idea where i would need to connect the wire to?
So you dont have any lights on the cluster before you run the ground cable ..??....I have 07 dodge 2500 cummins 6.7 motor with same problem dont tur over dont crank . Any light in the cluster just the red light flashing .do you think the same part is bad on my truck .
Take a test light and put it on your starter. Then have somebody crank the key and see if the test light lights up. If it doesn't you know that the problem is elsewhere and has nothing to do with your starter. In other words start at the starter and work your way back using the process of elimination.
I have the same truck. the truck wont start in park, only neutral. If I open door when in park with motor running the horn starts beeping and if I put in 1st with motor running the truck shuts off. Am I looking at a nightmare?
I think that is incorrect because as a common ground if it was shorting it would be getting ground and the truck would start in any gear. It is more likely a broken wire.

great communication and a good fix....and, an ideal theft prevention idea is beginning to form in my head

Swapping to a manual transmission is your best bet for reliability.🤙

Nice find looking to put a kill switch
Whats the official name for the rooster comb?
Believe it or not, the official name is Rooster comb.
Neutral safety switch insulator
So just to be sure I’m understanding correctly, it is more then like a short in the wire somewhere? Correct?
I think that is incorrect because as a common ground if it was shorting it would be getting ground and the truck would start in any gear. It is more likely a broken wire.
More like a worn out contacts on the plastic piece inside in the valve body attached to the rooster comb
