  • Made a trip to see Melissa's family in MO! Here's a quick edit of the test shots from Maeva's first big road trip. All shots were handheld on the BMPCC4K, 120fps, 1080 422 Film with a Rokinon 12mm Cine MFT.

Hey Nate. Can you tell me about the editing and color correction process please. Is it easy to edit? Is the original image from the camera flat or it has some kind of juice (in the video mode)

Djordje S. For this, I shot ProRes Film (log) and used the BlackMagic Film to Video LUT to convert it back. I color corrected at that point, first getting exposure right and adjusting anything off on white balance. Then applied my look grade LUT. I think this was a Lutify LUT. It takes a bit of time to do the color work, but this camera is a beast at how flexible the file was. I could be way overexposed and pull it all back. Nothing was lost. Made getting what I want out of the color easy and not like I had my hands tied like I often do with my GH5 footage.

Djordje S. And in video mode, it’s a still a pretty flat image. Honestly, I would only shoot Film on this. Either way you’ll need to do the post work. Might as well give yourself the most flexible file since it was easy to work with.

@@NatePoeppel I understand. Does it mean that it is easy to edit prores from blackmagic? Can you do it on a good laptop for instance? HD resolution I mean. Thanks a lot for your quick response

Djordje S. Everything was smooth playing back on my 2012 MacBook Pro retina in FCPX
