  • This is my review of the Rokinon 16mm T2.2 Cine lens EF amzn.to/2xRx8Ex It's an affordable wide angle prime lens with a fast aperture of f/2.
    Gear ➞ kit.com/natesf...
    I will be testing it on my micro four thirds Panasonic GH4. Overall it's a well built lens optically being very sharp with smooth bokeh and physically with a buttery smooth aperture and focus ring.

    Rokinon 16mm T/2.2 CINE Lens Review and tested on the GH4. This is a great lens overall, but will be awesome when used on a APS-C sensor or with a speedbooster. amzn.to/2xRx8Ex
    Also I inlcuded a shot filming handheld, as you can see it's a bit shaky, but some stabilization in post can help out a bit. I would definitley use a rig or use a tripod though.

    The rokinon designed this lens (and 12mm f2) for APSC. So if you used this on gh4/gh5/gh5s with Metabones XL (0,64) won't be vignetting? I thinking about this combo: Roki 16mm f2, Metabones XL on gh5s just I'm afraid won't work because the crop is 1,149 on DCI 4k (almost full frame), and 1,17248 on stills (16:9 time lapse for example).

    If you do ever get that focal reducer/speedbooster be sure to do a video on it. It’s something I’d definitely consider buying in the future if I stay in the Panasonic m43 realm. Easier shallow DOF is such a must and obviously it’s harder to achieve at wide enough angles on these crop sensor cameras.

    Hello, I have questions about the calculation of the lens mm in relation to the crop factor of the m4/3 and the Rokinon lenses. Should I multiply the mm by 2x (for example: a 24mm becomes 48mm) and then 0.71? In other words, a 24mm is equivalent to 35mm, a 35mm is equivalent to 50mm, a 50mm is equivalent to 70mm and an 85mm is equivalent to 120mm?

    i couldnt agree more. i myself own 16mm t2.2 on my canon 70D. And it works like a charm. Samyang/Rokinon produces affordable sharp lenses. Now im considering to grab either 85mm t1.5 or 35mm t1.5 for my apsc camera. which one do you think i should buy first?

      @NatesFilmTutorials  6 років тому

      I have not tried the tokina, but I was looking at getting that. 11mm is substatially wider and you have the flexibilty of the zoom. As far as the image quality it will be sharp. build quality is a bit clunly though

    Great Video 👍

    • @NatesFilmTutorials
      @NatesFilmTutorials  5 років тому +1

      The answer is no, but in some cases it may slightly. Because a passive adapter has no optics the quality of the image remains. Now depending on your cameras sensor size. The equivalent focal length will vary.

  • @ensanchefilms9612

    Excelent review!, I was searching something like this for a while. I'm selling my 12mm f2 Samyang mft mount and my 24mm f1.4 Samyang EF mount (the 24mm is so soft for me even at 2.8, it's not sharp at all) and I plan to combine this 16mm with both my lens turbo II from Zhongyi, when a 23mm full frame look is needed, and a passive adapter when a 32mm full frame look is nedeed. So I will end up with this 16mm, the 7artisans 25mm f1.8 (which is incredibly sharp for its price) and my Samyang 85 T1.5.

    • @NatesFilmTutorials
      @NatesFilmTutorials  5 років тому +1

      Nice plan! What do you think of the 85mm? Debating on whether to get that or the 50mm first

    • @adrinaik93
      @adrinaik93 5 років тому +1

      @@NatesFilmTutorials I'm so happy with the 85mm. I use it a lot wide open at T1.5 and the results are so good, just the depth of field is so sallow that nailing the focus is complicated. The lens are a little bit soft at that aperture, but sharp at the same time where the focus is, and organic and natural (something impossible on the 24mm for example, that was extremely soft and dirty even stopping it down). If you stop the lens down a little bit to T1.8 or 2, the sharpness rises like crazy. I bought this lens not because I use that focal lenght a lot, but because its price and I was always curious about that focal lenght with an extreme bokeh. I plan to go for the 50mm but after the experience with the 24mm, I want to be sure that is a good and sharp lens.

      All a speedbooster is trying to do is get to original field of view the lens would have using a larger sensor like an apsc camera on a m43 sensor. It’s not exactly the same or a perfect solution because it behaves differently.
      In use, you don’t really need to keep track of lens equivalency, only when using multiple cameras with different files of views and trying to match them.
