Kinder Downfall, The Edge, Kinder Low & Edale Cross From Bowden Bridge. A Peak District Hike.

- On this 9.5-mile hike, I parked on the roadside near Hayfield at Bowden Bridge, hiked past Kinder Reservoir, and up Sandy Heys to the Pennine Way. From there, I hiked along part of the Pennine Way until I had to cut across to The Edge. Technically, The Edge is one Trig, but as everyone knows, there are two Trigs there. One erect and painted and one discarded next to it. From there, I rejoined the Pennine Way and visited Kinder Downfall. I have never been here before and was glad I came up on a windy day to see Kinder Downfall being blown back on itself. It was mesmerising. The next stop was Kinder Low for the second or third Trig of the day. Technically, the second, but I want to include the abandoned Trig. Then, on to Edale Cross before descending Oaken Clough and back to the car at Bowden Bridge. The hike started cool and dry but quickly became boggy, windy, and wet. Irregardless, I really enjoyed this route. I haven't been up Kinder via Sandy Heys, so it was a first for me and a really enjoyable hike too despite the moist and windy conditions.
The car parking charge at Bowden Bridge is £7 for the day but there was plenty of roadside parking for free if you get there early enough.

On the lake you find yourself in a beautiful landscape... you can see that today the wind and the cold are biting... beautiful because the landscapes are initially bright green then turn to brown and other shades... sometimes the path passes in the middle of the water and it's not easy to pass, I see (minute 10:44).. nice to see that even if you're tired, wet you're always happy and smiling.. 😊💪👍

Morning Chris 😊 hope your well. This is one I’ve done before! I went with Zara before my UA-cam days I think it was but it’s a lovely walk. I remember stopping quite a bit on the way up. After the top we went down to mermaid pool I think it was called as Zara wanted to do a wild swim there. I bravely watched on the side 😂😅 cool seeing the backwards waterfall. Nice walk 😁😁
Yasmin!!! It is beautiful up there. Yes, the Mermaid Pool is below the falls a bit. And you didn't go in? I bet it would be cold no matter the time of year. Great to see the waterfall blowing back up at Kinder Downfall! I've heard it does that, but never seen it. Well done on another couple (or should I say three trigs) Chris. Always a great walk onto Kinder. I remember coming down William Clough thinking how steep it was, so I'm not surprised it was a tough climb going up. Despite the rain, a great walk then. Excellent mate I was on Jacobs Ladder Kinder Low Trig Kinder Reservoir/Wood in March & Very much Blanket of Cloud Very Atmospheric & then went to Hayfield & New Mills - Best part of the Hope Valley & Brutal Weather at times. I've got to see Kinder Downfall water (going Up-Fall) on a clearer day in future.

Kinder is always a good walk, whichever way you go. The upward flowing stream at the Downfall is something I've seen many times - though I have been there on days with placid weather. Good to see the area again.

the water fall blowing backwards reminds me of a time I was at the cliffs of moher, I had a bunch of old coins, and flipped them into the air, they dropped over the cliff edge and then flew back over my head and landed in the grass behind me.

Wow that is a pretty amazing effect to see the waterfall pretty much flowing backwards! That really is a peculiar feature of physics! the kind of thing that cultures of centuries past must have made myths about!

It looked quite high up to Kinder Reservoir. Always get nice views when high up. That's an area we have not climbed up yet ! But could potentially investigate. Looks wild up there. The profile pictures have been the same for about a year now, but I did have to check as I thought I might have been hacked. It was beautiful up Kinder, and coming up from Sandy Heys was the easiest route up I have done by far. I still had to stop a lot of times and catch my breath, but it was easier than Jacob's Ladder. Yes, the fingerless gloves are out. Amanda saw them in a charity shop, and they have come in really handy as I can now keep warm and operate my phone too. Kinder is lovely and being retired. I get to visit during the week when it is quieter, which is definitely a bonus for me. Thank you as always for your support, Shanita. I really do appreciate it. The problem with filming on a phone is that if it is torrential rain you really can't film it. But it would be nice to see. When it wasn't raining, it was a beautiful Autumn day. 9.5 miles is a comfortable limit for my hiking. Anything over that and I take too long to recover, plus it isn't enjoyable anymore.
