United Kingdom

I started hiking in June 2022 after watching hikers on the PCT. I knew I could never undertake such a long distance hike but I knew we had a lot of stunning scenery in the UK. I started the Ethel Challenge June 2022 and completed it in March 2023. If it were not for covid and the British weather I could have completed it sooner. But it isn't about speed or the destination, it's about the journey.
After the Ethel Challenge I decided to undertake The 88 Trig Point Challenge. There was quite a few pointless Ethels and with the new challenge I knew there would be a goal, a view, a Trig as the culmination of the hike. The difference between these two challenges for me is my planning. I will be, wherever possible, hiking circular routes and taking in more views, more scenery, and just taking my time.
And finally, I would like to thank my wife Amanda for believing in me when I didn't. Amanda, without you I am nothing, with you I am complete.

Win Hill - A Christmas Day Hike.
As my wife Amanda works for the NHS, there is an expectation that she works a certain number of weekends and bank holidays per year. It was her turn to work Christmas Day. So rather than just mope around the house on my own, I decided to hike up Win Hill. If you are a regular to the channel, then you will know that I have hiked Win Hill before, both on the Ethel Challenge and the 88 Trig Point Challenge, too. But to me, Win Hill seemed like a great place to hike on Christmas Day. There was virtually no wind, just a bit of a breeze at the peak, which is to be expected. And for once, it didn't rain. It was a positively balmy Christmas Day. I was surprised by how many people were out hiking on Christmas morning. I had originally intended to hike via Hope Cross, but sadly, there wasn't the time. It was still a very enjoyable five mile circular hike. The views from the Trig on Win Hill are spectacular over Ladybower and the Hope Valley down to Edale. I hope you enjoyed watching this video as much as I did making it.

On my recent hike to Hordron Edge Stone Circle, I found an iPhone 9. After drying it out over two weeks, I was finally able to WhatsApp the owner. I got the message Christmas Day to say that she has received her phone. A Google deed done. I was really pleased that I found her. #iphone #lostiphone #lostphone #phone #peakdistrict #lost #found
Circular Hike From Fairholmes to Westend Moss Trig.
Переглядів 13621 день тому
I parked at Fairholmes car park in an abortive attempt to hike a nice circular route, bringing me back via the iconic Derwent Dam. My route was closed at the start for logging. As I got higher and higher in elevation, the wind became an issue. The Peak District Weather forecast stated it was gale force winds of 50 - 60mph. After being nearly knocked over a couple of times by the gusts, I abando...
Hordron Edge and Bole Hill Stone Circles.

After being absent from hiking for nearly three months, my fitness levels have crashed. I intended to hike 6 1/2 miles loop, but after the first 2 miles, I knew I was too unfit. With that in mind, I visited Hordron Edge and Bole Hill Stone Circles from their nearest parking spots. So here are the two short hikes in one video. It felt great to be out there again, and I'm going to get my fitness ...

On my first hike in ages in the Peak District, I found an iPhone. It does charge, but it is PIN locked. It was on the slope up to Hordron Edge Stone Circle. #lostIphone #Iphone #peakdistrict #lost #phone #hordron #hordronstonecircle
A Two Week Western Mediterranean Cruise On P&O Ship Iona.

It was time for a mental reset and a last-minute booking on Iona. Sadly, we missed La Coruna due to Storm Kirk, but we still visited Vigo, Lisbon, Valencia, Barcelona, and Cadiz. I do prefer the smaller cruise ships, but this one was the only cruise that met our needs. It was a really enjoyable cruise and a great break. Highly recommended. Apart from the Covid and D&V outbreak but the crew wipe...

A 9.36 mile circular to Pen Y Fan from Taf Fechan Foests, up to the Trig Point on Tywn Mwyalchod, then to Craig Fan Ddu, Corn Do in Gale Force Winds. I mistakenly called Cribyn, Fan Y Big, but after the battering I took up there in poor visibility, horizontal rain, and gale force winds, I am surprised I didn't mess up anything else. I have never experienced weather like this. Thankfully, I had ...

Initially, I had planned an 11 miles circular hike up to Pen Y Fan and down the other side. Sadly, due to a water shortage and upset stomach, I had to turn this hike into a 6 mile circular. But it does mean I can come back again to revisit this hike in full. My new water bottle system was a success, and today was the first time I had hiked in 70% Merino Wool socks vice double layer socks. I fou...

@jones1068 more than happy to Robert. Are you talking 3 trigs, a circular or an out and back?
Looks incredible there Chris I might have to go there one time. I do similar videos if your interested. 😊
Hello friend what a lovely and amazing hiking 🥾 on a Christmas day 🎉🎄🎄❤️🎉
@positiveorientationone it certainly was. Thank you for your support.
Pretty cathedral! The bells are quiet loud too!
I have never been to Portugal, but I have heard good things. Looks nice!
It is beautiful but it always rains when we go.
Mahalo cheers
Tmzup new friends here happy new years 🥰🎊🎊🎊🎊🌺Aloha 🎸🎸🎸
@kukiana08 lovely to see you on Owen's live stream.
Unfortunately, some have to work on Christmas Day - I hope she got paid double time - you still had a nice day though - did you celebrate the weekend before? There were a lot of others there with you - the weather was nice for a winter day. L42 as well. Good to see you went to pick her up. A Belated Merry Christmas to you dear friend.
We celebrated the next day. At least I know Amanda will be off work next Christmas. I hope you had a great Christmas and New Year.
What a wet day 🌧
@@inbetween-days it certainly was.
A memorable time indeed. 😀👍
@arghentrock it certainly was. Next cruise is Panama Canal.
Good lad Chris for both the festive earring& hat and the fact you got out on a hike on Christmas Day! Bless Amanda for working Christmas Day! Wow few people coming up behind you! Great festive trig face! It doesn’t surprise us Mamtor was packed! ‘Half way down or half way up’ Niether up nor down (can’t get the song grand old Duke of York out of my head now 😂) Eeww mud! This really is a great second best, shame about home cross! Glad you didn’t fall over! Being up at the crack of Dawn up mamtor doesn’t float our boat either! Great channel Chris can’t wait to see where you take us in 2025! All the best 👍
@GENerationXplorers I really appreciate your support throughout 2024. It was either sit and wait for Amanda or do something. I'm glad I chose the latter. Thanks again, and have a great week.
A very trendy Christmas hat Chris, it suited you. Don't blame you getting out rather than alone on Christmas Day. Sort of thing I would do too. The reservoir looked familiar like Piethorn Reservoir. Certainly plenty of other walkers around. (We hoped to do a walk on the only nice day recently but too ill with a throat virus.) All best for 2025 Chris.
@@CountrysideWalking sorry to hear you haven't been well Shanita, there is a lot of it going around at the moment. The Reservoir was Ladybower. Thank you as always for your support and I look forward to more hikes with you and Michael in 2025.
NICE

I just checked your channel- and I can't find my comment- I thought I'd watched this and I had. So here I go again....fabulous way to spend a solitary Christmas morning. Hats off to your wife and the important job she has. Christmas was surprisingly warm here too Chris. Loving your energy. Gorgeous views. Thanks so much for this video- I so enjoyed it ( twice 🤣) Happy 2025 Chris. That you may hike on many more trails and share your experiences. 👌🇳🇱🙋♀🥝

Hi Chris! You found another trig! You had some great views up on top of the hill. The reservoir looks really nice too. Love the earing! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. Happy New Year! Anita. 👍🙂
@@blendedtravels it was a beautiful view from up there Anita. I was on my own at Christmas as Amanda was working, but I really enjoyed the hike. Happy New Year.
Ooh, loved the outfit, Chris! 😍 You were far more adventurous on Christmas Day than we were! 😅 Wonderful views all around. A five mile hike is brilliant! Well done 👏👏
@The_Brit_Girls With Amanda working, I had to get out. Old familiar ground but a nice hike. Thank you, as always, Ladies, for your support.
A nice steady climb there Chris. If only your watch would shut up eh as you do so. I like it fresh it must be said - ideal hiking weather and good for the views. Lovely on top - a few people about brushing the cobwebs away to but hey it was the season to share. Well, good to hear of your joy. A real good outing. Mark
@WyeExplorer hi Mark, with Amanda working, it was going to be a boring day. I really enjoyed it, and having retired for the second time, I'm going to get some longer hikes in and get my fitness back. I'm going to have to learn how to mute my watch too. Thank you as always for your support, Mark. I really appreciate it.
@@chrisbentleywalkingandrambling Hey, it turned out well Chris. I'm sire your fitness will improve with more hiking. And hey that watch will surely be less vocal. A pleasure.
How did you plan what Ethel’s to do on what days? Starting this challenge January 😅
@toriastafford7273 As I was really unfit I started with the short hikes, out and backs. Then as my fitness improved I made them more interesting routes. I wish I had taken longer to do them and made them all circular hikes, but hindsight is a wonderful thing. I left the 636 for last. So I suppose it all depends on your level of fitness. Snailsden Pike End, Dead Edge End and Britland Edge are doable in one, but I'd just do Dead Edge End and Snailsden Pike End. Don't forget that the Trig at Snailsden is not the Ethel. Several are on private land. You have to decide yourself about them. But the Ethel App says the nearest legal point is counted as bagged. Take it slower and enjoy.
@ thank you x I am goin to get a few smaller 1s out the way 1st due to the British 🇬🇧 fine weather 🤣 an hoping to improve fitness as I go 👌
💚
Nice video! Thanks for sharing! Happy Holiday👍♥

Such a beautiful five mile circular hiking in Win Hill! We enjoyed watching this amazing video! Happy Holidays for you and Amanda.
@goexploringwithcolor-shawn thank you and Happy New Year.
Its a lovely walk up there, we headed towards Buxton yesterday and the amount of cars on Winnats pass heading for mam tor at 6.30am was mindblowing. We had the pleasure of bumping into the infamous King two weekends in a row, the first on Win Hill and the week after he was on his way down Snowdon with a Mam Tor cap on with his daughter or niece 😂
He is an absolute machine, I have been up the steep way once. Never again. I've yet to meet him. I'll have to start stalking Win Hill. Mam Tor is a real Insta spot now. I keep well away. Thank you for your support. I really appreciate it.
That is so awesome! You are super kind and have made the world a better place. If we all do small little acts of kindness like this, the world will be a much nicer place to live ♥
@FeinDining thank you. I just hope that if I lost my phone, someone would do the same for me. Happy New Year.

@gallivantinggalantes it was a lovely hike. If Amanda hadn't been working, we would have spent the day together. But at least she won't be working next year. Happy New Year.
Good to be out at Christmas time as a break from self-indulgence. You were lucky with the weather. Here it's been gloom and mist; not only are the tops of the moors obscured, but so is the bottom. Oh for better days!
@michaeldenham9681 Yes, boxing day was very foggy for us too. I drove to Cheltenham and back at 60mph as it was foggy all the way. At least the days are getting longer now, Michael.
Hey Chris, amazing views mate, and I love the little Christmas hat lol haha 🎄
