Dean. Thanks so much from Atlanta for this wonderful video . Will show this to my 87yo dad who, as a boy, lived for a year and half in the house visable at 2:24 (his father tended the reservoir). His memories of endlessly exploring the Kinder Scout area are among his fondest of growing up in England and he will love seeing it again! It's a pity that here in the US such direct public access to lands is not the norm as it is in the UK.
Brilliant Dean,,, like a breath of fresh air,,, some beautiful views ,,,and shots giving a wonderful feel of the Peaks, not a place I know at all well only been that way once ,,, so very interesting as always,,, many many thanks,,,, ,,,, Alan
Thanks Alan, it was such a great feeling to be up on the moors again and breathing in that fresh cold air. I sat for a while having lunch at Sandy Heys and just took it all while breathing deeply, it was good to be back :-)
Hello, I completed the Hayfield route today after watching your excellent video.. William Clough was a challenge.. Weather was abysmal as far as mist and fog goes.. But it was a great 18km.. Found the actual summit of kinder scout and startled a couple of black grouse... You were correct, in poor weather and visibility as it was today you need a map and compass, also to find your way back out.. Great day.. Cheers..
Thanks for watching Dave, it's a fantastic route isn't it. One of my favourites in the Peaks that for sure. The walk to find the official summit is pretty tricky without good navigation skills when the weather turns bad. All the best, Dean.
Hi Dean, fairly new to walking, only been at it about 4 months, but as the saying goes your never too old to learn. since starting the moors have opened up a whole new world . the peak district is a wonderful place. I get there walk and don't really want to leave - you know the feelingI found your videos by chance after walking win hill last week - this week , looking forward to hope crossI have to say that your videos and commentary's are inspirational , I enjoy every minute. look forward to meeting you on the hill and shaking your hand one day. your good friend Darren
Thanks for this video - not been to the Peak District since the early 70s and often think about the school hike to Kinder Scout, visiting Edale, Tideswell, Bakewell, Castleton etc. I loved it annd maybe one day will be able to go back. I live near Dartmoor which is the next best place apart from Grizedale and surrounding areas!! Will be watching your other videos when I can. Thanks again
Thanks for watching Leslie, hope you manage to get back to the Peak District some day. I'm hoping to visit Dartmoor again soon, I've only visited once which was this time last year but would love to return.
Great video again Dean. Was up kinder over Easter with truly spectacular weather. Wondered about on the moor and managed to find the true summit of Kinder. We looked at heading down Crowden brook but it looked proper dangerous (going up maybe easier) so headed up Grindslow knoll and down Sheepfold which is a great way down with good views. Next trip out will be Hayfield as I love water falls. Cheers.
Great video! I'm going to watch your others too (this is my first one!). I visited Hayfield and the surrounding area three times between 2006 - 2008 and I've wanted to go back ever since, but for various reasons I haven't been able to do so. It's such a special place. Last night we booked a 4 night break in the Peak District, so I'll be heading back very soon! Can't wait to walk in this stunning landscape again.
Thanks for the great tour. Enjoyed the Asia trip videos, but it's nice to wander with you again in the Peak District. There is always something special about returning to home territory after a time away. Should I ever get back to see my pal in Cowdale, I'll plan for some walking time.
andy shore Thanks for watching Andy, when we have had a long spell of dry weather during summer it would be nice to have a wander in to the cave... if i'm brave enough :-)
Excellent video again Dean. I've just spent the last 7 days In Scotland on 'the west highland way' so im trying to catch up on all the recent vids. Cheers Gary
***** thanks for watching Mike, you had been in my thoughts in the days and moments leading up to the walk so it was a real pleasure to meet John who we both know. I'm glad you are on the road to recovery and I hope your progress down that road is quick and smooth so we can all meet up for a wander. all the best
Kinder Scout is such a great place, lots of different routes up and down to keep it interesting. Thanks for watching, I hope you have a great walk when you go
Well watching your video inspired me to give it a go and have an overnight wild camp up there. Looking forward to getting through your other videos. Its good to see how much emphasis you put on the landscape you're in and not so much on gear and cooking like some other videos out there tend to over do.
I'm not a massive kit fan really, it's nice to have good kit but as long as it does the job then I'm not bothered. It's all about the adventures and the scenery for me :-)
I used to run that route or variations of it most weekends until I moved down South. Miss that place but still managed to do a shorter version over Christmas. visiting.
Doing this tomorrow for the first time although been in peak district a few times. Staying up in the hills for 3 days and carrying 3 days mre rations. So looking forward to it!!
hi dean, brilliant video, iv lived in new mills a while now and visited hayfield for first time today, went to the pack horse inn, amazing pub, but i saw lots of walkers and tohught wow, id love to go do some walking around here, have you got any tips on how i can get started walks, maybe join some groups or something. dont know many friends who'd like to walk but i would i just dont want to get lost
Hi Matt, there is a great website / app called "Meet Up". There are lots of groups going out walking on there with different interests, photography group etc etc. Or I have friends who have gone on walk weekends in the Peaks with a company called "Large Outdoors" they have walk leaders who do all the hard work for you with navigation and I believe they offer navigation courses too. Hope that helps Matt. Atb Dean
Hello Dean. Excellent video. Would this be the Pack Horse Way that you are walking on? I kept horses at Tunstead Farm in the late 60's and we did a trek on the Pack Horse Way from where you started this walk. Apparently we were the first horses (about 6 of us) to do this for many years at the time. ( a newspaper was interested in us doing this and took our photo but I dont remember which newspaper it was : ( ) I sadly didnt manage to make the whole journey on my horse (she was slipping dreadfully around William Clough) so its very interesting to see what I missed. I have been watching your other Peak District videos too and find them fascinating as they show places I went on my treks on horse back when I was a young girl. We hit many a boggy area on our treks. I remember once going across a bog on one of those narrow wooden footpath thingys and mine and another horse slid off! Thankfully we got out ok but we and the horses where stained orange for awhile. I will be watching more of your journeys to other places too now as they are fascinating! Thank you for sharing. Sherry Gorman-Rickard from Malvern, beautiful Hills here too of course but not quite so high!
+Steve R Thanks for watching the videos Sherry. I'd love to do some horse riding around that area too, we haven't been out riding for around a year or so. I don't think my daughter would be very interested in tackling any hills with me but I'm sure she'd change her mind if it was on horse back :-) I've never visited the Malvern Hills, i've seen them from the motorway but I must make a point of stopping off soon.
I once walked this route on a bank holiday Monday.... Madness :-) ordinarily there aren't that many cars there when I arrive but it was packed that day. Hope you had a good wander yourself the other day
Great route Dean. Walked this last Sunday with some top weather... the steep bit at Kinder Low was a killer but fun! lol! Going to try and get across Kinder scout bogs again soon... last time I tried it was wet and boggy and my walking pole was going in a good third in places... decided to retreat! I got across once before, more through luck though... do you have a particular route from grinds brook to kinder falls to avoid having to scramble up and down some of the bigger groughs?
+Ian Bagley Thanks for watching Ian. Sadly I don't think there are any easy routes across, it's either boggy or you are climbing out of the groughs. It's even wetter up there since Moors for the Future have done some work to retain the moisture up there. All the best, Dean
Hi dean ive just come across your videos and ive enjoyed them all.i think I might give this wild camping a go too.it seems a great way to unwind from the rat race.what would be a great starter tent ect for a novice?
Hi there, I'd recommend the Wild Country Zephyros and also heard good things about the Vango Banshee. Both would be ideal for a starter tent for backpacking / wild camping. Thanks for watching
afterthetone It's certainly a good one, a real classic. thanks for watching and I hope you had a great time up there on Saturday, I was at work all weekend sadly :-)
A true landmark event Dean in British culture. Working people seeking to enjoy the outdoors. It simply changed the face of our nation. I think people are taking some mementos of the aircraft. Like the downfall. Another cracking place to hike. ATB Mark. P.S how is peakrambler now?

Looked like a beautiful day for a walk.
It was perfect, couldn't have been any better for me :-) thanks for watching, I hope this nice spell of weather continues until at last October
Not hiked to Kinder from Hayfield yet but it certainly looks a great route to take. Definitely on my list to do once lockdown is over. TFS Andy
Kinder from Hayfield is one of my favourite circular route in the Peaks. So many great memories as my friend Stevo and I did it ever week for a year 😁

Haven't done the full round in one go for a few years so might give that a whirl soon :-) thanks for watching

I enjoyed this, thanks. Just discovered your channel after watching another. What type of rocks are in this area? Is it limestone?
Hi Pat, thanks for watching. The rock is gritstone in that part of the Peak District.
@@DeanRead Thank you, will look it up.

Thanks for your help, ill look into them
For a novice walk what the easy way to kinder scout please thank you
Are there any little places to do a bivvy camp or are the rangers still moving the wildcampers on
I've not heard anything about people being moved on recently but I'm sure if you use stealth you'll be fine.
Did this route just this Saturday! (04-04-15)
afterthetone It's certainly a good one, a real classic. thanks for watching and I hope you had a great time up there on Saturday, I was at work all weekend sadly :-)
If only you had been my history tutor at school, then maybe I would of paid a little more attention :-)
Haha :-) I must admit I've perhaps learned more since leaving school about history than I ever did while I was there. Thanks for watching
good vid dean . hardest walk i done . 5.5 hours
quesera sera it's an excellent route isn't it. thanks for watching and I hope you had a great walk
A true landmark event Dean in British culture. Working people seeking to enjoy the outdoors. It simply changed the face of our nation. I think people are taking some mementos of the aircraft. Like the downfall. Another cracking place to hike. ATB Mark. P.S how is peakrambler now?
High Peak District is an ecological catastrophe.
It certainly is, as are most of our upland areas. Either over grazed or overly ‘managed’ for grouse shooting
Thanks for nice clear photography but could we have a little less of your handsome face and more of the scenery. Ted
Why can't people leave things a lone if its a plane crash its where people Died ??
RESPECT to others !!!
