    I have a lot of black beans! Yes, I have heard they are a great health food! But are they better than pinto beans? THANKS! 😊👍⭐⭐

    • @JudiintheKitchen
      @JudiintheKitchen  Рік тому

      Hi Spirit! Without doing a back to back nutritional comparison to be sure, I believe they will be at least similar in nutritional value. Since you enjoy beans and have pintos AND black beans available, I wouldn't worry about which might be a tad better nutritionally. EVERY plant food has its strengths and values. They may be different than other similar foods, but they all have nutritional strengths and benefits and the variations in strengths are GOOD! I'd say just rotate them in your diet as you feel like doing and you'll enjoy the health benefits of both. Sometimes simplicity is the way to go and makes life so much easier! Thanks for watching and asking! Take care and enjoy those healthful plant foods that you like :)

    I noticed that blackbeans are very healthy, rich in protein and fiber and low calorie. I'm in my 40s now and I need more foods like this in my life! I was concerned about the taste of black beans and was very skeptical. Well just now I tried a can and..........Yummy! 🤗 Not bad at all. I'm now proud to say that black beans are a part of my diet! I regret that it took me 40 plus years to say this but at least I can say it now!

    • @JudiintheKitchen
      @JudiintheKitchen  3 роки тому +5

      As long as your GI tract can handle them, then go for it. I too have eaten with 3 meals a day and had no problems (as you can tell, I eat a lot of beans!). Be sure you're getting a balance of other foods too. But otherwise, that should be fine! Thanks for watching and asking :)

  • @christianfrancisevangelist6468

    Hi Judi, is it okay to eat black beans everyday for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as a substitute for rice? Thanks!

    • @JudiintheKitchen
      @JudiintheKitchen  8 місяців тому +1

      Hmmmm, that's an interesting question! I see nothing wrong with eating black beans on a regular basis. Whether they can substitute for rice is something different. Beans are beans, whereas rice is a grain. Both are seeds of their parent plants, but they both have different nutritional profiles. There is such a thing as getting too much of a good thing. With that in mind, perhaps if you do elect to eat them at 3 meals each day, you might want to keep your serving sizes in check so you don't overdo on the beans. If your gut allows you to consume so many beans, then you may be OK. Just be sure you're getting a round of different nutrient profile foods so you don't create some sort of nutritional imbalance. Be sure to include plenty of leafy greens and other vegetables, and also some fruit in the diet to to help balance things out. Thanks for watching and asking! I hope this helps. Blessings to you and yours :)

    I wonder if you have old black beans that don't soften after cooking. If you blend these up before cooking, will they cook up ok?

    • @JudiintheKitchen
      @JudiintheKitchen  Рік тому +1

      Hi! Beans that don't cook up easily are usually on the older side, OR salt or an acid was added to the cooking water early on (which will toughen the outer skins of the bean). Usually if you keep cooking them they will eventually soften up. It may take longer than expected, but eventually they should give way. Since blending the partially cooked beans would break them up into smaller pieces, one can assume that they will cook up, and do so faster than if they were left whole. It's well worth a try! Thanks for watching and asking :)

    Is black beans and rice ok to eat together? I heard it's not.

    • @JudiintheKitchen
      @JudiintheKitchen  3 роки тому +5

      Black beans with rice is a wonderful combination for many reasons. In fact, I eat beans with rice on a regular basis...it's healthy and tasty. Only those who are "afraid" of carbohydrates may say that it's not OK. And in fact, THESE (beans and rice) are healthy carbohydrates and the body needs them. It's NOT the same thing as eating processed cereals, candy or other processed sugary foods. Those who are afraid of carbohydrates need to make a distinction between healthy and unhealthy carbs. They are not all created equal. Thanks for watching and asking :)

      At Walmart you can find cans of black beans with no added salt. And just 10 mg of sodium. I usually buy them by the 4s.

    • @luckylunaloops
      @luckylunaloops 3 роки тому +2

      Dried beans that you prepare yourself are exponentially better for you than canned. (This goes for basically every food. Unprocessed beats canned time after time.) You can add as much or as little salt as you desire. I like to make a huge pot of black beans with lots of cayenne and cumin, then portion out into single serving containers that I freeze. Healthier, better tasting, and less expensive.

      Old comment but put them in a coleander and drain the salt away with your sink. Also your body needs some sodium to function properly. And beans are loaded in potassium so it more than offsets any sodium in a serving of them by a mile.

    Hi, is it suitable for IBS sufferers?

    • @JudiintheKitchen
      @JudiintheKitchen  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Ad Am! I can't state an "across the board" answer to that question. It may depend on the individual. Some people with IBS may be able to tolerate a small amount of black beans, whereas others may not. So, you may want to try some, if you want, but I can't guarantee how your body will react. Sorry! A plant-based diet is overall anti-inflammatory. Beans of any type would be included in that. So, as far as I'm concerned black beans would be fine.
