The problem right now is that media is pushed on us by content curation algorithms that we have almost no control over, and addiction is the mechanism being used to keep people on these platforms. We should have some degree of control over our personalised algorithms - the reason we don't is probably because it would make us less predictible and thus harder to serve ads to, possibly breaking the business model. I'm not a fan either way of Jordan Peterson but he's never advocated violence in the way Andrew Tate has. It's over simplistic and unfair to equate them together. A lot of it from what I've seen of online mysogyny starts off with dating gurus who exploit boys and men who are frustrated with rejection from girls and women. So then they get told to be alpha and dominate women. If men or boys feel misunderstood and don't know how to engage with girls and women then they become vulnerable to exploitation. It's kind of sad really because it stems from feeling insecure and unloved. But when it comes to any form of extremism they always start off with a point that seems reasonable about some kind of unfairness which gets ignored then you get moved up the crazy pyramid

There's a lot of places where you can fall down the rabbit hole thanks to UA-cam's algorithm.
For example. I remember a few years ago I was playing videos on building PCs and components while I was busy, and just left autoplay on.
Eventually I wound up with videos playing by a guy called Dave Cullen. Who originally did computing videos. His channel was actually called Computing Forever.
After a few innocuous videos on computing, UA-cam then played me one of his videos where he was talking about how The Great Replacement is real, and being assisted by allowing abortion.
He took that video down shortly after the Christchurch shooting, as it was in the murderer's manifesto.
Meanwhile play any video on politics and leave autoplay on, and eventually UA-cam will start recommending things like The Daily Wire, Steven Crowder, or Lauren Southern.
Or movie and TV reviews, and eventually you'll get to the really vile people like Geeks & Gamers, Nerdrotic, or TheQuartering who complain if there's women, LGBTQ+, or ethnic minorities in anything.

At no point did they open the discussion up about gay relationships and how being gay is a normal relationship and not negative in any way. I've seen a host of events where parents have separated due to relationship abusiveness. Those children were subsequently involved acts of violence, mostly on the opposite sex. His issues on women working/becoming mothers and that side is problematic and the side I criticise. Whether it's his religious belief or his generation I don't know, but this is the main area for me that I find Peterson isn't helpful for young men or women.
Many women choose not to be mothers and choose careers and that's absolutely fine, same as it is for men. Pushing the narrative that all women inherently need to be mum's and will regret having a career and not having kids and that men won't so therefore men are the career driven ones and women aren't is ridiculous. I have many friends, a sister and parents friends who chose their careers or even just a child free life and are wildly happy, without having to have kids. I have a child and I adore him, but I love my job too, his viewpoint is just very old fashioned and I think if that seeps into younger men's minds, that their partners have to want kids or shouldn't put their careers first etc is worrying.
I'll be making sure my son knows he doesn't need to have kids, or he can, or he can have a career he loves or he can be a stay at home dad, it's all a matter of choices for him and his partner whoever they may be, if he chooses to have one.
That's my criticism of him, but I don't agree that everything he says is negative nor is he the same as Tate at all.

It's pretty dangerous pitting Jordan Peterson in the same conversation as Andrew Tate. Tate, as far as I understand, actively encourage disgusting behaviour towards women. Peterson on the other hand explains and demonstrates why things are the way they are, and this bit is important, from a clinical and scientific perspective. His climate change or religious stuff on the other hand is a different thing it’s right wing but it isn’t incel. I agree with most of what Laura Bates says. I think appropriate sex education is really important and key to the whole thing, unfortunately the UK has become extraordinarily puritanical recently. There has always been a vacuum when it comes to sex education. Men - and women should ideally be taught how to give each other pleasure during sex.
The problem is also this whole Alpha/Beta narrative where its constantly reinforced to men that being anything less than Alpha is inadequate and unattractive. It's like how women are told they need to have a certain body image to be considered attractive. It's an incredibly shallow and materialistic view of relationships. I think it is deeper and wider than just porn and sex, youtube, influencers etc. This is a symptom of the kind of late stage hierarchical unequal, materialistic, capitalist society we live in. For example, where I work there are now so many tiers to the pyramid half the managers don't have anything to do. It's completely pointless because we are all experienced professionals. Ideally, a company like mine should work cooperatively with no hierarchy, but rather more teamwork and a flater structure. But its all part of the system that fosters this alpha-male narrative that both men and women fall into believing and adhering to.
To be fair some of the dating coach videos for men are produced now by women such as the following below, where they advocate manning up (I actually think what they mean is for men to be assertive which is different from aggressive), but anyway, I wanted to make the point that it can be confusing for young men to understand what women like vs. don't like etc, because even some women say they like Alphas and it does appear they sometimes some of them do get drawn to bad boys (as some men get drawn to bad girls). In the end sex, love and relationships are a murky complex area but there are clearly some no-nos, like non-consensual sex etc. Maybe we need to just make it crystal clear to young men what those obvious red lines are since men respond to simple clear rules. Maybe start with that, then get more subtle and nuanced.
