    We send propresenter over NDI to obs studio. No hard connection needed. Propresenter 7 have NDI options with alpha channel. That eliminates the hassle to match resolution and frame rate in the atem switcher. And it don’t use a hdmi port on the switcher. Works great!

    • @ZachBrownMedia
      @ZachBrownMedia  4 роки тому

      NDI is a great option to go with! We route it through the switcher so it goes to all the other program outs we send, not just the one that goes to the live stream. NDI is still a good option, especially if you don't want to pick up the extra converter

    In regards to the "set the IP address to the switches IP", that's incorrect. If you are interfacing directly to the switcher via ethernet, set your control software computer IP to anything other than .241 in that subnet. That is, 192.168.10.1-254, so 192.168.10.1 would work, etc. The best bet is to have the switcher on a dedicated production VLAN that no one else has routing to.

    • @ZachBrownMedia
      @ZachBrownMedia  4 роки тому

      Yeah that makes sense.. from other videos I’ve watched they said that setting the IP address that matched would work. Obviously from working with it I found that it didn’t! What you’re saying makes more sense for sure! That’s kind of what I was getting at with setting it to an IP address just a few numbers off from each other. But you put it in better words than me! That stuff isn’t necessary my forte.

      How do one use same network for Internet. Really struggling with this.

    • @enregistreur
      @enregistreur 4 роки тому +3

      The Enumahs In networking there are some concepts you should understand : gateway, subnet mask, IP address.
      Say your router has an address of 192.168.1.254. It probably acts as a gateway to the internet, if it’s got an integrated switch (aka LAN), and a WAN port (or the modem part if it’s an all in one box).
      Subnet mask for this IP would probably be 255.255.255.0, which allows it to communicate with every IP address in the 192.168.1.xxx range.
      So you would assign to your ATEM equipment an address fitting that range, and not in conflict with an existing one.
      Same for your controlling computer.
      On most « all in one modem/router/switch boxes » the router automatically assigns an address to computers and other devices, using the DHCP protocol. In the case of Blackmagic devices, they don’t often use that protocol, so you must set the network parameters manually.
      In the end, if all the devices use the same Subnet as the Gateway available on your network, all devices should have access to internet.
      Édit: I got an IP address wrong sorry :p

  • @AdrianChoPhotography
    @AdrianChoPhotography 4 роки тому +1

    Great info and production quality for your video. Regarding connecting to the switcher through ethernet, you really shouldn’t have to go through all that. What I find works well is to reserve an address for the switcher under DHCP so that it’s always getting the same address every time. ATEM Software Control seems to handle that well.

  • @walldigital1891

    you can run propresentor straight to a HDMI input on the switcher.. You don't need the decimator. Just set your secondary display output on your computer to either 1080i or 1080p to match the switcher setting.

    • @ZachBrownMedia
      @ZachBrownMedia  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, that's true, you don't need the decimator. However, you're then locked into what frame rate or refresh rate your computer is sending. Which for Macs seems to be at least 60fps. You could run your cameras at 60fps to match, but isn't ideal and won't look great. We wanted to run ours at either 24 or 30, so the decimator was the best way to make that happen. It's an extra expense that you could skip if your budget is really tight, but I think for most people it would be worthwhile.

    • @walldigital1891
      @walldigital1891 3 роки тому

      @@ZachBrownMedia I am able to set the HDMI out from a MacBook Air as low as 24 so it works for us.. I have the option of 24 30 50 and 60 listed as Hertz instead of FPS in the refresh rate dropdown in our display settings in system preferences. Of course that may not always be the case for all computers and in those cases a decimator would be needed.

    • @ZachBrownMedia
      @ZachBrownMedia  3 роки тому

      @@walldigital1891 Yeah, that's interesting. In your case, I would say you don't need one! On the computers we've used, we've only had as low as 50 or 60 as our options. Not sure why there would be a difference between Macs, but good to know.

    It's interesting you say you need to use a mic delay. In my year or so (or longer?) of using the console version of this device, we haven't had issues with audio sync just running audio into the XLRs on the board. Perhaps we lucked out with the delays of the sound board matching with the switcher's delays?
    I've definitely learned a lot using it. Looking at the ways we use ours, I still think it was perhaps a bit overkill for our needs, at least for the time being. We don't really use any of the transition options except for crossfade (who wants to do a diamond-shaped wipe over a serious speaking session?). We do use some of the key options but that's mainly because we haven't made use of some of those ProPresenter options. Definitely, one has to weigh present needs against future vision.

      @ZachBrownMedia  4 роки тому

      For sure! All about what you need! This one has come in handy for the many video outs it has though! We've ended up sending a bunch of outs all over the place.
      Yeah, you may not need to adjust audio delay if you're running audio through the switcher. I have seen some people mention that they did, but I haven't needed to run audio through it enough to prove it one way or the other.

    HDMI can be a whole lot of problems. It's a weak frail connector and it does not carry a signal far (less than 25'). HDMI was intended to hook it up slide onto a shelf and the equipment (TV, DVD player, desktop, etc) NEVER move. Video cameras move (ie pan & tile). Use SDI as much as possible it will save you time, money and headaches. Yes it will cost more upfront just a camera with SDI will run $500 more in the same model. If you use HDMI you will be using lots of connections and adapters which is more points of problems and signal loss. If you are a church thats wanting to get into live streaming go visit at least 3 churches and look at their setup. Just watching a few YT videos will co$t you $$ and time I promise. Nothing wrong with watching some this is a good one with good info but go look at some setups too. Try to pick out one church thats been streaming and or doing TV for at least 5 years their tech guys want mind talking to you.

    • @ZachBrownMedia
      @ZachBrownMedia  3 роки тому

      Oh yeah, I agree, SDI is definitely the way to go. And as much as possible we're using SDI. But I don't think it's a problem if people use cameras that only have an HDMI out. You just need to be sure you know the limitations of HDMI. Plus, there's a reason that half of the inputs on this switcher are HDMI.. it's still a capable input source. And obviously if a church wanted to get into TV Broadcasting, this is not the video for them. This is targeted at churches who are new to jumping into live-streaming, have limited know-how, and limited budget. And that's also true, I'm sure you can call up a lot of bigger churches and their tech guys would love to talk and help people through the problems and situations they're facing. That's one option to find useful info. And of course, not all info on YT is good info.. I know firsthand lol. There's not a lot of great info on this topic out there right now, so I'm trying to at least put people on the right track.

I've read that this might involve getting a converter (unbalanced to balanced OR vice-versa?) What would you suggest? You could run with either switcher. For audio, you can go into an audio interface like I mentioned in the video. That would probably get you better audio results than going through the ATEM Mini for audio. You can easily sync up the audio in your encoder (OBS in your case) you just have to adjust the audio delay in the audio settings. It takes some trial and error but you can get it just about perfect. And if you run the audio through the switcher, you may still need to adjust the audio delay, depending on your setup.

    • @ZachBrownMedia
      @ZachBrownMedia  4 роки тому

      Hey! I know they’re telling you that you need a video capture card, but the Atem mini is a switcher and a capture card in one. So that’s your capture card.
      And you don’t need a webcam. The way that the Atem mini works is that when you plug it in via USB, your computer sees it as a “webcam” input. So in your streaming software you can just select the Atem as a video source.
      If you’re still having trouble with Boxcast, I would give Ecamm a try. It’s what I suggest since it’s the simplest streaming encoder to get started.

    For some reason when I run my pocket cam through the switcher it gets super Saturated and does have that raw look I’m going for. You know how to fix that?

    • @ZachBrownMedia
      @ZachBrownMedia  4 роки тому

      Hmm interesting.. There could be a lot of reasons as there are a few variables at play. Could be your LUT settings on the Pocket, or some settings in the switcher control app. If the switcher and camera are both updated to the most recent software, then you should be able to control color, saturation, hue, etc of the camera from the switcher software. Hope that helps!

      Zach Brown Turns out it was the 3-D lut on my pocket camera.
      But now I can’t seem to figure out how to use the ATeM software control to control the camera like other people do

      @@Ecvpepe Cool, glad you figured it out!
      Yeah I actually haven't updated the Pocket yet, so I haven't messed around with it yet! But, if I'm not mistaken, I think it can do all of that just through the HDMI alone?

    Hey Zach, thank you for this amazing video, it helped me a lot. I have a big question regarding the ethernetstuff. When I connect the BM Television Studio Pro as you explained everything works fine. But now the ethernet-port is not free anymore. I wanna get wired to the internet. So I bought a USB 3.0 to Ethernet Adaptor from cablecreation (www.amazon.de/gp/product/B01FJQGCB0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), connected it and installed the driver. I can see it in my network settings (Apple Mac) but the internet does not work (just with youtube videos). Everything can't be opened. Any ideas? Thank you so much!

      Yeah, we haven't had success with all the ethernet adapters we've used. But currently we are running ethernet into the computer for internet. Then for Dante and the ATEM Control we use these adapters and they have worked great! You may have to go into the Network settings and make sure that they all connected properly

    How are you doing lower 3rds with this?

    • @ZachBrownMedia
      @ZachBrownMedia  4 роки тому

      ProPresenter! We’re formatting a screen to lower thirds lyrics from there. That’s what is being sent through the Decimator Converter! Then you adjust the switcher settings to key out the background to overlay on the video.

      If you are using streaming software such as Ecamm or OBS (or similar) you could also run the lower thirds directly through that program too.

    • @ZachBrownMedia
      @ZachBrownMedia  4 роки тому

      Nadine in Japan that’s true! The reason why we use PP is because that one computer is sending the PP output for the main sanctuary and the live stream, which then includes videos that may be played. Which still could be done with bypassing the switcher and going directly to Ecamm or OBS using NDI or Syphon. But for our workflow we prefer running it through the switcher and treating it similar to another camera input

      @@ZachBrownMedia Ah that's a great point. I was thinking just purely in running a live stream only, not thinking about running it concurrently with a program onsite. Was using my COVID brain! haha!

      Same dude! I’ve had to switch things up a bit since we went back to in person services. You get used to working only for the livestream then realize you have to accommodate 2 different audiences

    Bro no need of Capture Card
    USB Cable is enough

    • @ZachBrownMedia
      @ZachBrownMedia  3 роки тому

      USB will work for the ATEM Mini series of switchers, and it will also work with the Web Presenter or the new Hyperdeck. For the TV Studio HD, the USB is for firmware updates only, unfortunately
