Great comment. See the difference between a South African pilot landing a commercial jet, and the pilots in Australia, where I lived for a few years and did many commercial flights with multiple airlines. The Australian flights prove that one has to have great faith in the engineers who design landing gear.

just a pity if u fly for SAA its not so professional because the German aviation auth has investigated the incident that took place on an SAA flight to Frankfurt over Switzerland in 2019 that nearly stalled 3 times in midflight due to a pilot error, he pointed the nose 3 times upwards close to the stalling speed of the aircraft nearly causing the plane to fall like the KLM flight over the ocean, and the outcome of the investigation... the software aboard was outdated, really ??? outdated, it caused the autopilot to disengage,

Have you actually had a pilots medical. I’ve known of colour blind pilots. When I flew here in Perth, Western Australia there was a colour blind guy that was accepted into the Royal Flying Doctor Service flying Kingairs. Another pilot at my aero club only had one arm and flew with a hook. You can get medical exemptions in some cases.

Snap. I also learned to fly at Grand Central in the 80s although I started on a turbo boosted Maule tail dragged. Unfortunately we didn’t have the proper flight manual so my instructor made up the numbers. It was not an easy plane to fly especially the take off at full boost although it could take off in a few hundred feet. I did my solo on it I did one of the best landings. On a Friday the 13th I had a few circuits with my instructor who clears me for solo circuits. As he got out he said it’s all yours go break you own aircraft little knowing I would do so. After a couple of circuits I was doing a take off under full power and pushed the nose down too far and the propeller contacted the ground. I immediately stopped the takeoff and ended up off the runway in the weeds with the engine still ticking over. I got out and walked to the flight school. The instructor wasn’t there but came back shortly afterwards and asked me what I was doing there so I told him I did what he told me to do ie bend the aircraft. It ended up with a new propeller and a crankshaft X-ray. To complete my training I transitioned to the toner hawk on which I got my license. I did fly the Maule once it had been repaired but it turned out not to be fast enough to get to west coast so I sold it I bought a turbo retractable C182 which was much better. I used to fly to a Vredendal on the west coast normally stopping at Kimberley to fill up as a gas was hard to find on the west coast. Fond memories of my time in SA.
