So in the beginning you say it's not a rival to Mondeos and Passats, but then you show us the huge rear leg room and massive boot space. With previous models, the Octavia was technically closer to a Golf than a Passat, but today all of them are built on the MQB platform. Yes, the Passat is still longer and wider, but with that much space inside, the Octavia is "mid-size" enough for many :)
+sssssneaker The reviewer was right about the previous generations, but with this latest generation though, I believe it competes in both the small family car and large family car sectors, which must be quite convenient for Skoda. Private buyers will think this competes with the Focus etc, and fleet buyers will think it's a rival for the Insignia etc. I've seen the Octavia group tested in both sectors, which it usually wins.
A big, spacious old bear that doesn't cost the Earth to run and nearly anyone can drive. I did most of my driving instructor training in one of these nearly twenty years ago. One of the many reasons the Octavia is popular for instructor training is that it has some of the best mirrors in the business; another is the driving seat, which has so many adjustments that pretty well able-bodied person can pilot the thing with ease. But that's nit-picking. I just like it because it's a bloody good car - so much so that I've still got one.
Well I really like it's looking, of course isn't like an Audi or Mercedes-Benz, but is elegant enough for me, besides very big, with nice boots space, economical fuel engine consume, comfortable for 5 peoples, and tons of compartments... 10/10
Seem to have s problem fitting standard floor mats in them, probably best getting Skoda originals, felt like this car had roughly the same room as a Ford Mondeo but then when I tranferred the mats it gave the impression it was considerably smaller with them no where near fitting it ?
These cars have a stupid easy to break plastic clip for the bonnet/ hood stay bar, sometimes resulting in the bar dropping as your closing up with the hood landing on the bar resulting in a misaligned hood.
The four drivers door electric window switches seem to be designed to be plug holes for water, there's no door trim above sheltering them from rain which they really need to be because of their plug hole collecting water design instead of being flat and flush switches, the switches are set too far forward consequently its quite common for people to open the rear windows instead of the front.
Plenty of room, economical on fuel, comfortable for five without the middle one at the back loosing out, four individual roof lights including roof switch for all four at front, coin box, armrest storage, centre console sliding shutter storage, roof spectacle storage, glove box storage, door bins storage, small boot area set aside for oil can, car accessories. No cruise control as standard, tailgate seems extremely heavy on hatchbacks, drivers door window switches collect water and are set too far forward.

I would have said it's more like the Jetta than the Golf or Passat

Besides Skoda Octavias are very popular for Taxi Drivers, that's enough saying, Big! Economical! And Resistance! Got it all
I had skoda for 4 years its just wow cars all around strong and great prices
Why do they always shun the low spec models? I have an S 1.6tdi estate all I care about is air con and it has everything I need.

One of the BETTER reviews, thanks

Looks very corporate and Audi A4 like at a glance.the Octavia in black is eye-catching and premium looking.great buy for the family man.
