I really liked the old ones where the guests would stay around the whole time, seeing interactions with one another.

So I recently watched "old" Clint in "the Mule". Same laid back guy. Clint has always been a favorite actor of mine. Hes 90 years old now, I think", in 2024. Iam 84. I think Ive seen every one of his movies. God bless you, Clint!

All three of these guys were funny and interesting. Johnny I miss the most, what a great show. He put in 100% effort every night. Letterman was funny. Clint Eastwood was wonderful on this show...One of the best Carson moments of all time in my estimation...

Letterman was enjoying riding a wave to the height of his career here. People nowadays wouldn't believe how popular he was at this time. Personally I liked the early NBC days a lot more.

Letterman was a novelty when I started college; there was a lot of talk about people missing morning classes because Letterman made them stay up an hour later than usual.

My girlfriend and I had the rare occasion to meet and talk to Clint years ago, we were just a young couple. He was with his young son and they were surrounded by several bodyguards but my girlfriend ran through them to meet him and he was gracious enough to stop and chat and let us snap a quick picture with him. He was not arrogant or mean to us in the least, just a nice normal guy. 🎉

My God. I remember when Unforgiven was the latest Clint film. And was the mark of the end of an era. The Man with No Name finally became human. What an epic film. An epic man. Even Johnny was enthralled.
Clint, Sly, Costner, Gibson, phenomenal actor-directors.
Clint is my favorite actor. He has done so many great things. He's a great director too. I even like the stuff he did in his 90s.

Clint was calm as he prefers to be generally, but Letterman came out on fire! He was more amped up than I have ever seen him--he was turned up to eleven! But compare this to ANY modern talk show and you see there's no comparison.

Funny hearing Clint promoting Unforgiven having no idea at the time what an Oscar winning success that film would turn out to be. Arguably some of if not his best work.
What classic TV...god, I miss Johnny and Dave every night. Clint Eastwood was the perfect straight man for Dave. Late Night TV has been pathetic ever since.
I remember my Mom always saying she didn’t like David Letterman because he had frat house humor, so I never watched him either. But seeing him now in my late 40s and watching some other episodes of his show, he is really funny! Dry, sarcastic humor, kind of an endearing jerk. What’s not to like? Lol

This was on a Friday night in 1992. I remember seeing this when it originally aired. Dave's story about the dog and the bad meat had me rolling on the floor then. I have not seen it in years.
l was in the audience that day. lt was an amazing final week.

Dave proving, right after being screwed, that he’s a hit with the Tonight Show audience.
They could not have given Dave the tonight show. He had a younger audience with his own show in New York. And if they gave him the tonight show, they would risk losing that audience with a newer host. Even back then when this was happening. I was even telling people that day was not going to get the tonight show after Carson left. This way, they still had David Letterman. Unknown quantity and j was running on Johnny steam for a while.
@@felinefinetessaslegacy2878 But Dave did end up proving he could be successful in that time slot with the audience Johnny had. The audience in the clip loving him is one citation and the other is the success he had at CBS.
If Dave had the Tonight Show he wouldn’t have had strong competition and would have been solid.

His claim to fame as the Mayor of Carmel, was that people could eat ice cream...(long story).

Lettermans daytime show was funny. His late night stuff wasn't his, it was the writers if it was funny. Dave got his popularity by being rude and obnoxious to guests and making people uncomfortable. This made it different than all those before him and his younger audience thought it was funny. He became everything he claimed to hate an entertainment industry hack. Watch king of comedy thats what Daves dead end job world was. He had no talent so thats where he ended up.

This was Dave after losing out on the tonight show gig showing NBC executives why they made a mistake picking Leno over him to succeed Carson. Letterman was on fire here and made his point. Kudos to Carson for giving Letterman his platform to make his point.
