Thank You Thank You Thank You 🙏🙏🙏 Fell in love with this song in 84’ at the age of 7. A village little gay boy. Going through exactly the same struggle. Bullied by schoolmates. Laughed out by them. Slapped by them. Your song and it’s beautiful tunes help me go through all injustices. And exactly! I never cried to them, just to my soul. Moved to and lived in Prague, Vienna, Berlin, Cologne and in Prague again. Went through my life with head held high… 47 now Working, living, helping people love themselves, as a coach. Jimmy, THANK YOU! I Have Your song (and Tina Turner, Queen, George Michael) in my everyday playlist. But the Smalltown boy song is deep inside and also the pain from childhood. The injustice will never disappear. I wish You all the best! ❤❤❤❤
Jimmy is living proof that the human voice is the greatest musical instrument, capable of invoking surprisingly strong emotions. Good to hear he still has it after all these years.
Piano and voice, no over effects, auto this that... just plain PERFECT. How many "famous" singers today can do this on this level. "analog perfect". Song takes me back to good times.
Am I wrong, but are we missing such unique voices today compared to what we had decades ago? e.g. Freddy M., Peter Gabriel, Robert Plant, The Pet Shop Boys....etc...so many of today's singers sound very similar.
I left home at 16 to join the army ,I wasn't there for my kid brother,so jimmy and our kid sister became closer , but now as from last yeaf at Rewind Perth we are closer, closer than we have ever been, I am 1 proud big brother he still kin wow the crowds with his unique voice ......love you jimmy loads ....
Hi john, i grew up in Easterhouse and when this hit the charts it resonated with me. Im not gay but i did need to get out of he east end. This song strikes a chord with so many people challenged with there situation. I found Jimmy to be extremely brave and inspiring. It good to see one of your own making it, then again with talent like that and a set of balls he was always going too.
John Somerville you must be very proud especially in the modern day because people exactly like your brother where in there own kind of army just like you there battle lasted longer than any conflict or battle and it still goes on today but with his music it eased a lot of worried minds and gave a lot of peace and love to many. Amen
This song is pure soul, pure pain, still, it seems incredible to me, how some people are able, to express feelings, in such an intense way...bless you man.
***** Saw him in Belfast years ago, blew the roof off the place. Ahem, modern popsters, where are our politically aware songs that still fill a dance floor? Being a tiny, Glaswegian, openly Gay and defiant man must have taken some balls. Also, he was never a one issue guy, remember when the left had a collective voice?
***** You know, I hadn't even realised that. We look to Americans now for satire. I think everyone is bloody despairing of the whole system these days. It is cool to be non-political and then people wonder why they work more, sleep less, and can't figure out why they can't change that. I swear this is true, I used to get a magazine called Cuba Internationale ( might be spelled wrong, long time ago ) delivered to my house. It was essentially a propaganda sheet but after Castro's disgusting behavior when the HIV epidemic broke I walked away from that regime. I was so left wing that I used to defend Stalin. Doh! Such a thing as too much.
I remember on a late night talk show once Rory Bremner was saying that all the satirists packed in (bar him) once Tony Blair got in. They never came back.

Love this song !! One of my all time favourites from the 80's.Jimmy is a gifted and very talented vocalist and it was great to hear him again. Thank you. !!
It's not just getting us older you know. Music is truly awful these days. My next door neighbours have teenagers and the shite that they play loud with their windows open. They all listen to this drill crap. White kids from somerset thinking they're some sort of inner city gangsters. It's depressing!! I used to be a professional drummer. Not much work around these days for actual musicians. There is still good music, but unfortunately, it seems to be lost on the majority. 80's was mainstream. It's what we all grew up listening to.
I'm a 50-something straight Aussie male, listening to this with tears in my eyes. Absolutely beautiful, what a voice, even better 30+ years later. What an amazing singer Jimmy Somerville is.
I'm 44 and I've been listening to Heavy Metal since I was 13 but I have always loved this song, there's something truly special and magical about it, it evokes memories of times long gone..
40 years on and this still hits you like an express train at full speed. This song is Jimmy Somerville's and his alone. No-one else will ever be able put this much power in to it
Jimmy, I'm a 45 year old bloke who remembers this tune from when i was growing up in the 80's UK ! You're voice hasn't aged ! This version has BLOWN me away :) Awesome Man Awesome voice !! Thank you :)
Ben Rogers You don't have to be Gay to enjoy it, yes it's about coming out etc, but it's still a classic song, and I expect at the time extremely controversial. :-)
LiWfilmmaker You know he may seem slightly "raspy" this is weird as his vocal chords have been given the all clear he said in a recent interview and are very good still. His voice is still awesome though and I think it gets better as he ages. You are right, don't have to be gay to enjoy this song at all.
LiWfilmmaker well it doesnt have to be about coming out to be gay it, could be applying ti any form of any comming out when you think about.,eg sorrry im leaving parents for a new life, sorrry im starting a new life, good bye friends etc we can alll relate to this song.Or good bye I need a new life and going abroad coming out can be about anything really change!!!
LiWfilmmaker Yes, I was fortunate to remember this well, it was ground-breaking as there hadn't been many songs with these type of lyrics to hit the top 5 of the UK charts. Not quite as controversial as you might expect though, as it was 84 and there had been the New Romantics phase (Boy George/Marc Almond) in the previous 3 years which caused far more of a public reaction. Calling the album "The Age of Consent", a dig at inequality, was inspired, and the "Need a Man Blues" track really shows off Jimmy's amazing vocal range.

Yep, a very tough skill that of an accompanist. Way too many believe tht THEY are the star, not the vocalist. This is beautiful,
@@LaughingStock_ Just so. Perfectly measured performance!
brilliant
Kudos to the sound engineer! The mic placements are on point, without which we wouldn't hear it as if we're actually there!
Nope you don't know about music he is not that good i am a musician for 50 years!
oh my...that scream at the beginning gave me the chills . Imagine hearing that voice live. such a talent.
Same here! Just amazing...
Me too, incredible voice it's exactly the same 32 years later, hasn't aged a bit.
Lefteris Panos 👍
his voice is just so perfect... the "cry" at the begining is something magical
Lefteris Panos
I love them so much too
Thank You

Fell in love with this song in 84’ at the age of 7.
Went through my life with head held high…
47 now
Working, living, helping people love themselves, as a coach.
Thank Christ he's still singing!!!!
Improving a killer song by 100% over 30 years later underlines the class and uniqueness of this guy. Just perfectly performed.
The piano and his voice in format add even more emotion
"WOW" Not quite 40 years, and the man has not missed a step. As great as ever Sir. Thank you for your work.
@@CountJayeAndTheHardBeats That's 36 years, so the previous comment seems quite logical
Amen
This tune is just timeless... I could listen to this tune all day...much like I did in the 80's...what a superb decade....Jimmy you are awsome.
This song is pure soul, pure pain, still, it seems incredible to me, how some people are able, to express feelings, in such an intense way...bless you man.
This is pure talent. One of the best songs ever made.
Wow 30+ yrs later and he still has it!
Tatts Kink I was going to put something very similar he still sounds outstanding 👌
mark smith it’s pretty impressive to be this good 30 years on
when a song touches your soul...you know it's just perfect..🙏🙏
This is so awesome. You can really tell when a song is a classic when a guy and a piano sound just as awesome.
I agree! The true test of strong vocals is "unplugged " and it's still AWESOME!
He's still got it. Bravo Jimmy
Beautiful. Bravo indeed.
Also, where have all the political satirists gone?
Holly shit Jimmy all these years later and you still got it.
2 Years later and listening to this I still get goosebumps. As someone who grew up in an abusive family this song means a lot too me.
So beautiful. A timeless classic

His voice rips your heart out and hands it back gently...amazing!!!
A beautiful description Greg.
Well said.
it will keep doing that long time im gone in my grave ........
I neve realised this is exactly what happens. I've been searching for the words and unable to express them. But you got it spot on. Yes. Thank you.
True
Fun Fact:
Jimmy doesn't need a pop-filter for the sound..
It's there to prevent the mic from turning into solid gold when he sings
Mr Somerville ... your voice still moves me now, as it did when I was a teen growing up in the 80s listening to you. Absolutely pure heaven ... you still kick arse!!! :)
Oh my God, that’s better than the original. Most artists wane as they age - Jimmy’s got better.
Indeed!
best
Most artists wane, but he wines :D Like old good wine
Amen brother!
I agree!
Wow. This song just makes you feel emotions you didn’t even realise you had.
me too
je suis né en 1976 et il m a bordé dans sa music . une legende
Awesome voice wee man you've still got it. It's 2024 and I'm a straight weegie I remember how they were treated back in the day strength to you Jimmy I'm 74 now.
Der Mann kann singen, so viel Gefühl. Das ist ein Meisterwerk für die Ewigkeit.
Ja, meine ich ebenso....
His voice reminds me of happy times in the 80s -- He still sounds as good today.
well said frank
Jimmy and Tracy is the sound of our youth. He sounds even better than before. This is a hymn to freedom from a gentle soul.
That high falsetto is amazing. Still got it.
It's not a falsetto, which is a put-on high voice. Jimmy has a counter tenor voice, the highest natural male singing voice.
Totally made me cry in the 80's and now again in 2015. Such a beautiful version. Well done Jimmy. Thank you for this version, thank you for helping us with our own struggles and thank you for being you.
Well said.
Thank you! 😊
a very nice comment Shane ! i have the same feeling as you hearing this new version , you can't imagine how much i've danced on it in the 80's , i was just 24 yo coming back from the army.
Grew up listening to this song in the 80's, this version left me speechless in 2020.
❤ God Bless You
Christ he can sing, loved him back in the day and still love him today. Top man Jimmy
Jimmy didn't try to be something he wasn't. Record labels hate that.pure talent is incredible.
I literally sobbed when he held that high note. I can't believe I cried. Jesus. His voice is heaven.
Wahnsinn, der Typ hat echt eine tolle Stimme. Tolles Stück 👍
Love this song !! One of my all time favourites from the 80's.Jimmy is a gifted and very talented vocalist and it was great to hear him again.
Thank you. !!
My mate Frankie is a ringer for wee Jimmy. You can imagine the stick he takes I'm sure :)
Hi Tom !!....LOL !!
Does he ever get asked for autographs ?
No, but he does get asked up at every karaoke. But never twice lol
That has made me smile.....Thanks Tom !!
Tom Speirs If he ever visits the States, I'd love to meet him :)
What a voice brings back memories of the 80s better than today's shit
Hey man, there’s lots of good music around nowadays! Just gotta dig a little. :)
@@pleiades250 that's because today's music isn't the 80's.
Totally agree and I'm only 26!
Tim TPDRUMS 100% agree
I'm a 50-something straight Aussie male, listening to this with tears in my eyes. Absolutely beautiful, what a voice, even better 30+ years later. What an amazing singer Jimmy Somerville is.
Jimmy Somerville with his great voice. Thanks for coming back. ❤
Hey man, he still has the voice like 30 years ago - that‘s so brilliant. It‘s like a time travel!👍👍
I used to see him and his mates on the northern line going down to Camden Town when they were the comunards , still a voice always a voice
I'm 44 and I've been listening to Heavy Metal since I was 13 but I have always loved this song, there's something truly special and magical about it, it evokes memories of times long gone..
es verdad opino lo mismo
I met Jimmy twice in London and he is one of the most genuine and nice celebrities i have ever met. Bjork was surprisingly nice too.
Omg! So happy that I stumbled upon this absolute masterpiece! Both, the singing and piano playing was spot on perfection!
Holy shit! He can still sing like an Angel.
This song will never get old. It’s timeless and brilliant.
40 years on and this still hits you like an express train at full speed. This song is Jimmy Somerville's and his alone. No-one else will ever be able put this much power in to it
I agree 1000% he has an unforgettable voice that is immortal. 🤩
A song, a performance, a voice, words that shall accept our applause. Run awy, my friends!
Jimmy, I'm a 45 year old bloke who remembers this tune from when i was growing up in the 80's UK ! You're voice hasn't aged ! This version has BLOWN me away :) Awesome Man Awesome voice !! Thank you :)
AWESOME. I'M 65 AND I LOVE HIM HIS VOICE THE MAN.
30 years later and dude's still killing it.
Paul Oprea 36 ans plus tard
He gets better and better. I love the rawness of his voice. He needs no instruments. He has a wonderful way of telling a story through music.
... And better and better and better and... BETTER.
Ich bin 58 Jahre alt. Diese Musik begleitet mich ein Leben lang ....Danke dafür ❤❤❤
Man, I still listen to the original to this day. I love this song.
I do too. It is a song that really stood out for me. I am 30 and not gay but this song really sounds good.
Ben Rogers You don't have to be Gay to enjoy it, yes it's about coming out etc, but it's still a classic song, and I expect at the time extremely controversial. :-)
LiWfilmmaker
You know he may seem slightly "raspy" this is weird as his vocal chords have been given the all clear he said in a recent interview and are very good still.
