  • Filmed Memorial Day weekend, 2021.
On sabbatical, over to my NBFF's compound.
I have built a few saws for this gentleman. I had his brought a Psy-Ko 661 with me on this trip.
This was filmed in the afternoon. We had been in the shop going over some instruction, how to's, nuance, and some of the more advanced techniques on the dry erase board. The Dutchman & Sizzwell had been part of that discussion.
You can use a chalk board and your hands to explain those maneuvers. But, they need to witnessed 1st hand on order to grasped entirely. This was the only tree that had a good amount of side lean that was on "get deaded" list for that day.
Could it have been swung, I am positive after looking at the wood pull on the stump after this tree fell. However, Mr. Ryder was trying to limit the collateral damage to the stand. The easiest way to lose a tree over backward is attempt to swing it. So,,, I opted to play it safe and wedge it.
I had talked about having not cut any trees within a great distance of this location. The last time I had dealt with dead Ponderosa was in the following video - • 5ooi - 1st Four Trees.... somewhere around 550 miles away. They did not act quite the same on the stump as what we see in this video. The wood was much tougher in these trees and combated (prevented) much in the way of drift. I had gone off of past experience where P-Pine will drift off a long way. I compensated at the stump accordingly. However, I never would have used a Sizzwell on this tree had it not been a educational type setting. Sometimes the learning is better received when you get past the "When Things Go Almost Wrong " part...
By the 21:17 mark I could see that this tree was going a bit high. At the 21:18 mark you can see me relieving the "uphill" side hinge wood. At 21:34 we see the far side Dutchman take affect.
In the end, I'm just a man. I make mistakes like everyone else. Funny thing here is that by this tree going high, it took the belly out of the flamed out one on the left next to the opening at 12:00. So my mistake was actually God smiling upon this operation.
At the time of your viewing this, I may, or may not, be immediately available for custom saw modifications. I am booked out several months regularly. If you are interested in having a saw zipped, please shoot me an email. That is the best, first point of contact.
