      Why can't we just cycle through all 4 going about our normal day's work of processing and enacting, and be done with it, landing back onto basic functioning as either an INTJ-A or INTJ-T? I think being stuck in one of those 4 "colors" as you call it would be both boring and limiting for the rest of one's life. All 4 combined seem like they are meant to be the sign of a "matured" INTJ that reaches satisfaction in life when the disruption of midlife is over and "the golden years" begin. (Best case scenario being they never develop Alzheimer's or dementia.)

    1. Ambitious Strategist - ENTJ shadow (Te-Ni focus)
    2. Curious Investigator - INTP ego (Ti-Ne focus)
    3. Exacting Designer - ISFP superego (shadow Fi-Se focus)
    4. Caring Theorizer - ESFJ aspiration (Fe-Si focus)
    All 4 types are focused on building a legacy and leaving something behind of value. INTP do this via discovery, often sacrificing being present in the now for some potential future payoff.

    • @dxfifa

      Shadow functions are imitated by combinations of non shadow functions.
      Ne ideas stored in Si and then accessed by Ti though Si without Ne processing at that time for example imitates Ni. Your Si effectively picked an Ne idea and decided to try and add it to Ti after the fact. You think you came up with a new idea based on new input, but you didn't. You probably discarded or ignored an Ne idea with Ti, but your Si stored it, waiting for the time to add it to the Ti framework.
      Oh that sounds like "Ni critic", rejected ideas coming up fully formed
      Also a poorly developed Fe driving while very adept but underused Ti sits in the back seat navigating looks a lot like an Fi user. The emotional focus and rules and principles actually looks more like an Fi user in Te grip trying to stand up for their identity and values, ie a defective Fi user.
      Oh could that be "Fi Demon"?
      Trickster Se? Si and Ti shutting down Ne because the person is overwhelmed and them feeling present and clear headed but not actually gathering any ideas or data.
      Opposing Te? That's when Ne, Si and Ti all agree for once on what to do, that there's no other option.
      It's easy to see for me that it's not the same mechanism as actually using those functions. All of them feel like you've lost a part of you, unnatural or stressful.
      So with all at once, the INTP would feel backed into a corner and forced to act, extremely critical with non thought out and illogical ideas, clear headed and grounded to the world but with no spark, and extremely sensitive to others actions that don't make sense or reject the INTP.
      Basically manic, and worse, sometimes the INTP will like it, because they feel like all the shackles have come off and they're now the apex predator.
      I think that's how shadow functions work. Not actually using them

    🧠 The four subtypes of the INTP personality are dominant, creative, normalizing, and harmonizing.
    00:58
    🧠 The dominant subtype is called the ambitious strategist and is driven and confident.
    03:04
    🧠 The dominant INTP is more extroverted and comfortable in leadership positions.
    07:03
    🧠 The creative subtype is the exploratory and social INTP.
    10:21
    🧠 The normalizing subtype is the exacting designer and focuses on deep specialization.
    14:10
    🧠 The harmonizing subtype is the caring theorizer and is empathic and reflective.

    That was a breath of fresh air! As a creative INTP with perhaps some aspects of harmonizjng (perspective-shifting) and normalizing (exacting), the popular stereotype of the INTP never sat well with me. As a voracious multiple rabbit hole goer with a dopamine release with each new discovery or connection/pattern perceived, it now makes sense that it’s due to the creative sub-type.
    It’s also interesting that people shift sub-types with age. I can see that as one reaches mid-life and becomes aware of mortality that there is an internal conflict between continuing to input new information (which takes time) and making a useful impact on the world (Fe) especially with time-consuming endeavours like language learning. It is difficult not to pick up that new language that fascinates us, even though our time is finite and there is an opportunity cost associated with each deep dive.
    This “scarcity thinking” may be a driver for why we jump around and don’t finish what we started.

    I like leadership positions, and even though the pressure of responsibilities makes me productive, it also easily drains me, when I feel that I have no freedom of decisions and my path is being decided by someone or something for me. But I am definitely trying to keep the harmony at all times, usually self-reflected most of the day. I can also be quite dramatic in anything that is connected to romantic entanglement.
    I relate to the dominant subtype, but with eagerness to reflect and keep an harmonious environment.

    I definitely think I'm a normalizing subtype. "Works in a cubicle, very quiet" sums me up quite well. Dominant was eliminated pretty quickly. I am definitely not comfortable with harmonizing, and my motivation for studying typology is to classify people to gain an edge in social situations. My interests have always been fixated and narrow - occurring in phases, so I do not think my Ne is that high to be creative type. Unfortunately, this means not a lot of shared discussion topics with others.
    So I can only conclude I'm of normalizing type. I am very close with my Si, and I adhere to my duty out of a motivation of not rocking the boat or status quo - or being comfortable. I have a natural inclination to be on time, follow routine, and sticking to the consistent. However, I think I have a pragmatic (Berens metric) tinge to my personality, because I'm willing to quietly break rules in order to do my job most effectively. I often conflict with ISJ's because they are more inflexible with the rules or social conventions, even if situation justifies taking a new approach for the optimal outcome.
    I'm interested in learning how to shift or change your subtype. I think I aspire and look up to dominant subtypes variants of my type the most, so I am curious on how to develop brain wiring to be more like a different subtype.

    • @mrkayr
      @mrkayr 10 місяців тому +3

      Speaking to the origins of this subtype development, I have SJ parents. Being raised in a safe, structured environment, I think colored my personality to match more of theirs.
      I think it's true all INTP's are naturally slightly rebellious, and I would rate this variant as likely the second least rebellious, behind harmonizing. However, I think it is rebellious enough to conflict with social convention often, in my opinion.

    • @jessenceq3250
      @jessenceq3250 10 місяців тому +1

      Besides being more flexible than other ISJs you know, what causes you to think that you're an INTP and not an ISTJ? Just curious.

    • @mrkayr
      @mrkayr 10 місяців тому

      @@jessenceq3250 Since I'm concerned about and like discussing abstract topics for one. (I)SJ's do not have this preference. For ISTJ, specifically, they are Te-Fi users, so they tend to cite sources and use extraverted thinking a lot better than me. While I mentioned flexibility I meant that isn't the same as pragmatism/affiliativeness. ISJ's don't mind when the group chooses their role for them, where as NTP's are introverted sensors who do mind when roles are chosen for them. (I)NTP's have more of a deterministic, individualistic mindset compared to all of the four SJ types. Assuming equal functions, I know I'm not ISFJ because I prefer to have an assignment of work, but choose how I go about my own system to do my work. I really detest micromanagement, and dislike when authority tries to manage or question me. I'm quick to question authority when it is incorrect. I did dig deeper into the minds of SJ types, usually they tend to implicitly defer to authority and encourage nearly unconditional respect for those in charge, whereas most of my conflicts come from not wanting to or finding certain decisions from higher up to be stupid.
      It helps when an outside observer tells you what language you display. I did get typed using Linda Berens metrics.

    • @mrkayr
      @mrkayr 10 місяців тому +4

      @@jessenceq3250 Hmm my response didn't stick for some reason. To keep it simple, it's because I prefer abstract discussion and speaking in terms of concepts, intangibles, and ideas. IS(T)J's prefer to speak in terms of language relating to five senses. I prefer freedom and going about my own way of doing things, whereas IS(T)J's defer to community and having their roles chosen, prioritize interdependence.

      Take a class in an outdoor pursuit or sign up for a week long rafting trip somewhere. You will discover your superego in a new way that was probably not fostered or accessible to you. my creativity comes out when it comes to naming businesses or even laying out plans for literally anything. I can manage people and groups well as long as I can do it digitally and with little to no personal interaction so I ran an outdoor group in college and only interacted with people in my element. Out around flowers I could teach them the Latin names and share beauty and form memories. That is much more meaningful than drinking and partying and all the other nonsense I see people do that makes me feel like a hermit by choice.

    I definitely identity more with the description for the creative subtype, except for the whole being sociable part. I do have a very large range of interests and constantly seek to learn more about seemingly random things, but I basically don't have a social life outside family members. I've been living in my apartment for three years and don't know a single neighbor and have no friends in my city, for example, and I think I'm only capable of being mistaken for an ENTP online, where I can be somewhat of a debater at times. IRL it's mostly only with close people, usually.

      I think I may be somewhere between creative and dominant. I find I am very stubborn and have strong opinions, yet have no desire for leadership. I'm also interested in a wide variety of subject but not very sociable, yet I can appear quite sociable at times. I think I can appear easygoing, and I think to some extent I am. I think I can be quite "go with the flow" and open to new ideas and experiences, despite being stubborn and opinionated.

    I wonder, what kind of career choices you would recommend for a creative or harmonizing INTP? I have done scientific research and engineering, but found the work culture is sometimes toxic. Teaching might be an interesting choice, but the disadvantages we have in dealing with people might backfire. Difficulties in closing a project is another problem, especially for the creative type, am I right? Personally, I am 52, and probably creative. The harmonizing characteristics have only appeared later in life, so that nowadays I have had success in leading or being the center person in small groups. Younger, I was more introverted and normalizing.
