- At 82, Paul McCartney FINALLY Reveals Who Really Broke Up The Beatles
Paul McCartney partnered with John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr to revolutionize popular music and culture in ways that continue to reverberate today. Despite their eventual breakup in 1970, the Beatles' legacy remains unparalleled. McCartney went on to cultivate a stunning career for himself as well. But after all these years, fans have wondered what went wrong with the band. After all these years, Paul McCartney FINALLY revealed who really broke up The Beatles. But before we go down that road, let’s take a look at the life and career of the icon and his association with the band.
It was time. They had done and achieved it all. I'm just glad I was able to experience it. We'll never see anything like it again. 100 years from now, people will still be listening to the Beatles! What an amazing legacy.
I feel so blessed to have spent my youth and informative years listening to the start and finish of the greatest period in the history of music. There is nothing that can compare to the music and artists from the 60's and early 70's. Bands like the Who, Stones, Doors, Led Zepplin, Yardbirds, Byrds, Hollies, Monkees, Neil Young, CSNY, Pink Floyd, Queen, Eagles, Black Sabbath, Bad Company, Deep Purple, Clapton, Hendrix, Steppenwolf, Kinks, Cream etc. etc. just too many to list em all, and at the very top of the mountain the band that started it all with some of the most iconic music ever written and performed is the fab four. Never been nor will there ever be anything even close. RIP John and George and keep on going Ringo and Paul we love ya.
Well Lennon is not here to say anything about it but as they said in many interviews the band fell apart because they were not the same young guys that started together, they evolved in different ways. Yes Lennon got more political, Harrison more spiritual, Ringo went for cinema and didn't take himself so serious, Meanwhile Paul had a successful career with brilliant & commercial ideas, a real talent. What makes the Beatles great in my view is that they were 4 different personalities, 4 amazing solo artists in one band. The band finished in the right time, unfortunately 2 of them died too early
Wow!! Paul McCartney is simply a stand out unique dynamo. What a guy and What a musician. I feel so privileged to have grown up all these years with his music in my ears.
I think there is not only one reasonn for the breakup. It's a sum of many reasons. They were very young at the beginning of their career and each one of them developed in a different direction. I am so thankful we got the Beatles. But I am also very thankful for their solo careers that brought us such great musical highlights as well ❤.
So sad because of the death of John and George 😢 (and Linda 💔😢).
The Beatles will always be my favourite band 🥰
The Beatles were my one and only super band in the 1960's. So glad to have been able to experience these great men. 🥹😊
There will never be another like the Beatles ever again!
Things change, and of course I hated their breakup. Life goes on and I appreciate every song the Beatles ever wrote. To this day, I can sit down and listen to a Beatles Album and enjoy every moment of it. 'Black Bird Fly, Black Bird Fly into the light of a dark night...." By Paul McCartney and John Lennon" This song makes me so emotional, thanks to Beatles for having a place in my life.
Ringo said if it weren't for Paul (the workaholic) they would have never made all the music. He is a gifted musician and song writer. He has been blessed with long life!
They gave us enough. Four young men who influenced a change in the world.
I think they truly loved each other but John & Paul couldn't both be the boss. When John steered more towards Yoko's persuasion (she was a junkie), Paul dove into "something new". George just kept creating serious music & Ringo was ready for anything. They had to grow up & they grew apart. I lived thru this period & was intensively involved in their music, especially Abbey Road. I will never stop loving the artistry of The Beatles. Even at age 71, I look forward to more.
I fell in love with them when I was 16
I ll always be fascinated with their music.I had no idea Paul was so prolific. All of their music was (is) fantastic!
I do not think anyone was to blame, no matter what the surviving members say! The Bealtles reached the end of the road! They needed to go their own way. Sad for fans, but we all had the memories😊😊😊😊😊I loved being in that era, saw them live quite a few times! ❤❤❤I really miss those we have lost❤❤❤😢😢😢❤❤❤
Nothing like them before nor since. So glad that I got to experience their genius talent.
In my opinion George released the best post Beatles Album, he also wrote some of their most covered hits, Something - Here Comes the Sun / While My Guitar Gently Weeps to name a few.
When the Beatles broke up (I was 16) something changed in the way I looked at the world. There was still endless streams of fabulous music. But I no longer felt the magic with the end of THE MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR. It took me away, and the loss still whispers...NOW & THEN...
If you really want to know the truth, seek out Ringos explanation of what really happened. The most even keeled Beatle reveales the truth with utmost sincerity and love for his mates.
The fact that Paul says that it was John that initiated the break up is not a “revelation”. It’s been known for decades that John quit the group pretty much right after the recording of Abbey Road.
Paul says John broke up the band, and John probably said Paul did. But it was obvious Paul and John wanted to go in different directions, George was tired of being a second stringer despite material that was arguably the best of their later efforts, and Ringo was just tired of the bickering. At least they left artistically on a high note with Abbey Road, though the earlier recorded and far inferior Let It Be was released later, evidently for contractual reasons.
I had all those 45’s. Wish I had them now.😮
Most people who have played for any length of time in a band know that relationships get strained to the limit. They were cooped up on the road and in the studio. If you add Beatlemania into that, they would have to burn out. Thank God they did so many great albums before then. I believe it is that simple.
The BEST BAND ever!!! No more words necessary.❤
IF John had never met Yoko, The Beatles would still be together now releasing two albums every year and being constantly on tour.
You couldn't bottle up that much creativity and talent. It was inevitable for them to reach their highest potential.
Watch Get Back. Epstein died and no one replaced the void. They were rudderless and exhausted, but could still make music. Fame and management-wise, it was unexplored territory. I think Epstein would have made them take vacations from each other and then brought them back together after each did their own thing for a bit. They were fragmented and still very young.
They grew so close because they traveled, played, and lived together for years on the road. They were a real BAND, and a band of brothers. Once they decided to no longer tour and play live, that part of their lives was done. As they grew individually and as artists, they no longer were a BAND. Just my opinion, but I do believe it to be true.
A fact which is mostly ignored with relation to the Beatles' break up is Lennon's increasing use of heroin in this late period. This was why McCartney had to assume creative control. John and Yoko were both into it and explains why they asked to have a bed for her in the studio: she was zonked out and if you look carefully at footage of Lennon at this time you can see he is too.
Ringo said Paul was behind the prolific work behind the many albums.
I think that most Beatles fans suspected it was John being influenced by Yoko Ono's ideals, that caused the split. And they still probably do.
If only they could have kept the Beatles together while exploring solo career's. Thats what they actually wanted but management and money got in the way. Its amazing Paul kept them going after Brians premature death in 1967. They put out a hell of alot of great material after '67
They all wanted out, except for maybe Ringo. They knew it was time.
I miss these times,so much !!
Paul made it possible sensing that john is no longer interested.
We all knew it was Yoko
They were big in Jamaica also. My aunts use to love them but I was a little child those days.
Yoko did not help the situation.
You have to remember that John was always the proclaimed band leader, but McCartney superseded him by out producing him in number of songs. Lennon was an artist, McCartney was too, but had a business sense. With Epstein's death, the mega Global Group lost fundamental guidance. McCartney wanted the Easement Family---Linda's family---Who were a substantial Business Law Group to take over the management. Lennon wanted Alan kline, manager of people like the Rolling Stones to take over the duties.
Lennon, like many Rock Bands, thought Kline was a great manager. Remember John was a pure artist and pretty flakey when it came to business. Everyone who dealt with Kline got ripped off. He was a crooked promotor type. The disagreement over management caused the break up. Lennon was temporarily fortunate in his later comeback to get Dave Geffin to manage him during the production of Lennon's last two albums and was there for Yoko at the time of Lennon's assassination.
As individuals, George comes across as the one I'd want to spend time with, the three others forget it.
When they all were no longer willing to continue together it was time to call it a day. Simple
It's what we knew all along Yoko Ono instagated the breakup of the Beatles. Evil woman !
Bottom line and over decades of speculation it's amazing to realize I was correct in why this band separated. It's amazing to live and upon their run of music together. 50 or better number 1 hits were done by them in 7 years approximately !!!!!!
Those 4 young men from Liverpool actually changed the world . I knew it as 6 year old me watched them play on the Ed Sulluvan Show one remarkable Sunday night . What's more , I knew it almost as the first notes of "All My Lovin'" came out of my Mothers Brand new Curtis Mathis Television and Stereo Console with a beautiful 100" Cabinet . Because of my 2 older sisters , I was witness to alot of wonderful things including music that many my age didn't get to shate immediately , for thay I am forever grateful to them . We loved playing their records on the weekends , and I wss allowed yo join , if I was not going to be a creepy little kid !
John told them all he wanted to leave the group. Even if John didn't leave, I think George would have.
Lennon abandoned his leadership with LSD and then with a heroin addiction and Yoko.
Nice video 📹 and workmanship!!! I like the Beatles
John was ready to leave the group in 1965 he was burned out with Beatle Mania…… the big question is would John Lennon ever have made it in music without the Beatles happening..possibly not, he himself said he more than likely would have been a criminal. So with that being said it is safe to say that Paul was actually the leader of the group. Sorry Lennon fans all the facts point to that realization. After Paul joined the quarryman the other members dropped out cause they were not up to Paul’s standards.
The FACT is when Brian Epstein died, Paul took over the band. It was Lennon's band from the beginning and he resented Paul assuming leadership. In addition Paul did not care for George's guitar playing and he walked out of several recording sessions because of Paul criticizing his playing, John lost interest in the band because Paul took over leadership and John Quit. They did not get along.
George Harrison refused to play on some tracks and not even turning up to the recording studio, plus being the first to say he would never tour again as a Beatle. He was in open dispute with Lennon and Macca about allowing him more of his own tracks on albums. I think a lot of people agree as I do he simply walked out and never came back there for being the first to leave.
One name Alan Kline!
it was Yoko
It was evil dragon lady Yoko - she poisoned group harmony!!
Beautiful!
In that era of the British invasion of music there were many great groups , granted the Beatles did top them all as they were the leaders of the British invasion , and I did get to see them live, note I said see them LOL you couldn't hear them for the screaming crowd. The 1960s did produce some awesome music that will never repeat and a lot of us baby boomers got to experince it then and again later in the 70s with groups like the Bee Gees
They didn't leave each other..they just left.
why did macartney sued his bandmates? did they committed a civil or criminal offense against him? When Lennon left Beatles there are still 3 members intact until macartney break the intact group; and then excusing himself that it was Lennon who started the break-up.
it had to be #YOKO
Terrible... This is a Paul can dono wrong and everything he has ever done is amazing
John's Beautiful Boy, but best of all, Imagine. I loved Wing's Band On the Run, the first USA hit was I Want to Hold Your Hand. I was 14. The name of the song seems kind of silly, now, but the Beatles sound was incredibly unique at the time. The "British Invasion."
If John never met Yoko, they would have stayed together. Case closed
George like Paul for this talk of changing the whole music scene and influencing generations, said it. It all means nothing.
Do I like the Beatles. Yes. Am I aware there was a massive promotion campaign in their start and time. Yes. Do I know the peace love campaigns were occurring while the Beatles came along and the Beatles did not create it and did make use of it during the second wave of Beatles after they basicly stopped touring yet kept putting albums that kept getting radio played, especially in America. Yes.
Paul especially liked these promotions simply, even though its his life's work, it made him millions on millions of CASH.
Great setup of the I'm a cheerleader for the ongoing party, image.
But as he says, ' It's business, isn't it.?'
I think the "elephant in the room" was John on the "horse."
A great song composer.
Lennon said to paul
the marriage is over , said i want a divorce
Paul replaced the other guy and did a better job it seems.
Yeah Lennon make it big time along with the another Beatle - Yucko Ono. He just threw away his complete legacy overshadowed by the witch. He was maybe genius , but big time messed up...
They should take a long break for year or two and everything would be different.
No one had impact like the Beatles.Their contracts had certain legal ramification. When they played Portland,in 1966,they got 100.000 dollars in a plain wrapper, besides ticket sales. The people who paid them are gone so no problems.THANKS FOR THE TICKETS DAD.....RIP THEY WERE GOOD.
Beatles reached the end, john lennon looked over his top, they did enough..
Lennon and yoko
That Billy Shepherd impersonating Paul McCartney is a miserable figure, and those who still believe in what he says, are naive.
I never really got into Wings, so much. I do miss Linda .
Yeah blame the dead guy.
Unparalleled is right!
It's Lennons last wife that if all angels viewed and I haven t seen this piece yet, had influenced John and I'm certain over looking al all from above is mostly reasons of many has my take upon it and unchanged. The end of this my be the truth and in respect to Paul ill accept it
The lawsuit was entirely Alan Klein's fault
Doesn’t Michael Jackson's estate own the rights to all the Beatles songs? I haven't thought about it in a while. So looking it up, now. Something In the Way She Moves, Paul was the most romantic of the group
John may he rip broke the Beatles up because he left McCartney in the studio writing music on his own while John was to busy going around the world with Yoko. I think I would be a little pissed off too.
Obviously they were moving away from each other ideas. John and paul had different thoughts and george was tired of being left out. Ringo hell he was ehhh whatever .
Yoko broke up everything!
Many people thought it was the new modern sound of the jazz-rock bands like: Blood Sweat & Tears, Chicago, War, Tower of Power, Earth Wind & Fire that gradually began to overshadow the Beatles style since 1968.
Saw a video where Mr G Harrison. Said major problems existed long before the Problem with Yoko. And I am not sure but he appeared to put the blame in the direction of Mr. P. M. With so many groups when you are together 24/7 tensions will arise just like a marriage. And I believe Both Ringo & George had the difficult time has John & Paul thought they where the song fighters. 😂😊
McCartney: It was John Lennon! Lennon's response:
I blame Ronnie Pickering for the break up 😂😂😂😂😂😂
The members of Wings were paid a salary, something that disturbs me about Paul. George and Ringo never got any residuals based on their work developing most of the Beatles catalog.
They didn't care much for them in Dingwall Scotland
John Lennon's mother died 15 July 1958 when John was 17.
Paul mcartney is the reason for beatle break up after the death of their manager which paul acting as a manager resulting to G harrison resignayion.
How many songs from George Martin did they use?
The story is clear and was told by the Beatles after 1970 rather uniformly. John and George were tired of the Beatles. George no longer got along well with Paul and needed more space. John felt like a change of life and getting rid of the Beatles' burden. Ringo would have moved on, as he said several times, but he suffered for a limited time because he continued to work from the beginning with George and with John for years and maintained a great friendship with them (with Paul he recovered it after 1980). Paul is the one who suffered the most and did not want dissolution. All this is in the books and interviews. One interesting thing is that John allowed himself to make even critical judgments about the Beatles and Paul and George, but if the judgments came from other musicians or journalists, he always defended his former comrades: that is, he maintained in a way his role as a beatle “on vacation” until the very end. One must not forget the enormous financial, bureaucratic, administrative problems that stifled Apple and the Beatles: lawyers, administrators, accountants, besieged the daily lives of four people who were not yet 30 years old.
The only person I heard he never liked was Allen Klein. He was a mafia music thug.
GOD BLESS PAUL MCCARTNEY MORE 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤LAURA AND MY ANIMAL FAMILY IN TEXAS USA 🎉🎉🎉😂❤
He was the heart of the Beatles not his fault they broke up John just had to bring his girlfriend in to the group and bad mouth the others especially John .
Bossy McCartney and mis-handling of finances ( Apple Corp) was responsible for the termination of The Beatles. Perhaps the expired sell by date as well.
Too many big egos together!!!!
I beg to differ, but the FIRST Concept Album was the Mother's of Invention Album "FreakOut" in 1966.
Macca told the truth as he saw it. Handy when Lennon and Harris are both no longer alive to contradict him.
maybe JL would have stayed if McCartney hadn't nixed every idea he and george had to change the band
The Beatles ceased to exist the moment John became a biological extension of Yoko.
The first time I saw YOKO I knew John was a .... GONER .... GOOD BUY BEATLES
paul mc did not grow up in walton that a lie and paul called time with the beatles
