Thanks! It was fun to incorporate some of my Irish dance moves into a wood working video! ;-) I try to include a little something good in each video. Thanks for watching!

I like making box joints on the table saw. With a longer indexing pin you can cut all 4 sides at once. That saves a lot of going back and forth.

@@HomestyleWoodCrafts OK if you're going to go for it then cut your staggers, after you have them you're ready to stack. Load 4 sides on the pin and clamp them all together. Now it is like working with one piece. I put a clamp on either side. Keeps it balanced. I use Vise Grip swivel pad clamps. But C clamps would work too. One thing to look out for is the extra cut squeezing your blade some. Making the kerf cuts narrower. Then your joints will be too tight. It is 4 times the cut. So you might have to shim your blade or cut a spring pass each time or something to compensate for that. Loading all 4 on the pin at the same time is a bit tighter too. So you might want to ease your pin some or wax it or something. Just sanding it a little can help. Nothing is for nothing. Another benefit is 3 pieces are backed up so they won't blow out. Gang cutting keeps the pieces registered to each other too. Any errors are shared. That's if you cut corner pieces together. Which you should. I always number all of my sides so I have a definite plan. Usually I'm going for wrapped grain or something.

@@HomestyleWoodCrafts in spite of all the challenges I still feel the efficiency gang cutting offers is worth working out the kinks of the process. Especially if you're making multiple boxes. Then it really pays off.

Great review, woodworking sure is a lot of processes! I was wondering if you could 'cheat' the lids and glue two bits of wood together to avoid the routing???

Certainly. I have found there are many ways to accomplish the same things. Kind of depends on our knowledge, skills, and available tools.

My first attempt at making a finger jointed box was also when I discovered that I was old enough to need glasses to see small details.

Ah yes, sometimes I have to hold items close and look over the top of my glasses. haha!

    Actually they are finger joints.

I have heard them called by both names. I bought the jig from Rockler and it calls them box joints. I have also seen a long thin tapered joints called finger joints. So the naming of them seems a little loose. But anyway, thanks for watching!
