Excellent build! A suggestion - lava glows from the inside - the raised parts cool the fastest, and the hottest parts are deep in the narrowest cracks. Maybe the way to do it is to base coat with the hottest colour (yellow), then go towards oranges and reds on the most raised parts, and maybe even a bit of gray dry brush over. That way, you can get those glowing-from-below effects, to avoid getting the pizza look. Another trick is to sprinkle it with crumbled flakes of wall paint or eggshells before the filler dries, so you get sharp edges of cracking rock and more interesting texture.
Limpid pools of Mel-canic lava strewn about Mt. Mel-suvius. Blackish gray smoke rising out of the Mel-canic crater. Low rumbling of the ground as lava oozes from crevices in side of the mountain. 🌋
Hi Mel. I'm thinking of making my own battle mat for lord of the rings (so grassland/ woodland / path). I'm thinking of painting a 6x4 plastic backed cotton painters drop cloth with browns and greens, spraying it with PVA and flocking it. maybe spray more PVA after to secure it. I cant find a video of anyone who has done this method before (everyone uses caulk) and was wondering do you have any experience with this before I go out and buy all the stuff? any help appreciated. love your videos on hedges and fences btw!
Are there alternative ways to do the interior textures? Im working on basing a mawloc/trygon with a volcanic paint scheme and id be interested in doing some of this for its base but i dont have what ever paste was used and it feels silly to buy a bunch for a small base lol.
I think you've made the same mistake most people do with lava; the bits highest up and furthest from the body of the lava (except for the very most recent bubbles and explosions) will be the coolest and darkest. The deeper body of it will be the hottest and brightest, so it should be the deeper crevices that are a brighter orange (not really hot enough to be yellow) with the higher, thinner bits being cooler shades of red and into black. The bubbles are about right though 👍🏻
Got to be honest... they're not great. Saw some pictures of viewer terrain sent in to another channel and their Lava looked alot better. I was really impressed with what they did and was meant to be really easy to do.
5:35 still not mature enough to watch this... I'm starting to wonder if you do this on purpose...Love the build, cracked up at the "unintentional" humor.
i don't know if he knows what he said on one hand he's a grown man and should know but on the other hand he's british and the slang is different but here he is just talking about his balls....

Ok so I am not the only one.
Gotta be careful what you put on your balls. 😂

Adhesive half pearl domed stickers work the treat for lava. You can buy sheets of multiple sizes from hobby stores.
Oh, nice mate!
Thank you Mel!! Great video! Keep up the good work! :)
I sure lava this series!
This is a hot tutorial for sure. Thanks Mel!
This sounds like a great idea I am gonna take these ideas and use them for D&D stuff

That's a lot of Mel
@@TheTerrainTutor You need to build Mt. Mel-suvius as part of the series. 😜
another great lil video, thanks as always.
good video
Thanks!
Thank you mate, I appreciate it!
Great work Mel, working on scenery for 15mm. Dwarven under halls.

What would be the best material for modelling figures for inside a snow globe plz 🙏
Even more hot stuff!? You madlad! XD
A few more to come yet!
hello sir can u have a tutorial for us how to make Moon Surface
This technique should work well. Leave out the bubbles. There are also many videos on craters.
Great vid Mel, just need some Terminator bits to spice up some of the pools! :)
A Real Tutor-nator... 😎
Those came out looking great. But I have to be honest. Throughout this episode I kept having a craving for Italian food. Lol. See ya next time.
Pizza Pools!

you're probably better getting crackle paste mate

i agree....the upper bits should be cooled and crusty
Yeah, i'd agree with that
Anyone else giggle too much 🤣

Making the bubbles, why not use 'googly eyes'... 🤔
Nurgle volcano's?
@@TheTerrainTutor that would be great...🤣👍
But those 'googly eyes' are perfect half balls to use as bubbles.
Look more like pizza than lava. Did you use a reference photo for these?
The realistic stuff comes next mate, but yeah, pizza pool it is lol
Looks like Pizza
Mmmmm, pizza.
