The Sheridan model C was the very best of the multi pump air rifles. They were made to last and it's not unhreard of for a 50 year old Sheridan to still function perfectly today. The Crosman model 140 used a blow off valve (as did the Sharp Innova and Ace) as opposed to the striker release of the Sheridans and Benjamins. The point being these rifles did not suffer from valve lock which could happen with the Sheridan and Benjamins should they be over pumped. In the mid to late Seventies the Sheridan model C was available in the the UK with a lighter hammer spring in order to reduce its power below the 12ft lbs limit and this allowed for a second and slightly lower powered shot. These were advertised as having a "two shot facility." Lastly the Sheridan and Benjamin rifles were constructed phosphor bronze so as not to rust by the condensation created by the rapidly cooling air when the rifle was fired. Cheaper multi pump air rifles were made from steel.
The Sheridan was of .20 (5mm) caliber. The others were in .177 or .22.
The Americans perfected the multi pump with their model C. It's a shame they are no longer made.
But Daystate made a multi pump called the Sportsman which was more efficient and now very hard to find.

Had to have a FAC for my Sheridan, this was in 1975 & i was 18 years old. The Sheridan was putting out 18 ft lb. The .20 pellets were a pain to get at the time & all that pumping!!. Glad we now have PC air rifles with 30 ft lb!!!

I'm of a certain age and I love the stuff you're doing. Back in the day I nearly went for a Sharp Innova but instead opted for a Weihrauch HW80 in .177. To this day I reckon that the best part of hunting bunnies was just being quiet in nature. That, and eating rabbit in mustard sauce.

Fascinating to learn how that (asinine) 12 ft./lbs. law came into being. Given the political situation recently, it was easy to assume that it was a more recent and PC-motivated decision. As an American, I always felt bad for you folks in the UK with that restriction, (and now they've even come after your pocket knives!!) .... smh.... There are a large number of British "pest-control" shows that are popular in the states, and some of the 'review' type shows as well. Yours is one of the best, relaxed, casual and informative. Keep it up!
    Cheers!

Ahh, i love this episode. i dnt do the new pcp,s. Iam old school and love the self contained shooters, multi pumps n springers only. I love the crosmans, especially 1377 n 1322, i modded both of them with the gmac flat top valve n pistons, put a stock on them and gmac barrel band/silencer adapter, i put the chunky backpacker pumparm on them as well from gmac. i put an air arms silencer and 3-9x40 illuminated scope on them with a cree ultrafire flashlight on top of the scope for night shooting. I put a survival kit with firestarter, extra ammo, knife, fishing kit etc in the hollow stock kept in place with a neoprene velcro cheek rest to hold the kit in place and they were super tacticool. Really accurate as well believe it or not. The possibilities to puttin your own stamp on them is endless and you can do it all at once or take your time and have fun doing so. I sold the 1377, i had lots of people ringing trying to buy it within an hour of advertising. I still have a 1322 hybrid crossover and still love it today, not quite as accurate as the 1377 tho but the 1322 hits with a bit more authority. Defo need to buy a chrony if you gonna mod them tho. I actually bought the 1377 brand new in stock form from Lloyds place. All the best.

Some of the newer Benjamin/Crosmans are still very popular, the 392 and 1322/1382 are well sort after as target hunters. And they have just released the 362 which has much hype about it. Sadly none of these has the beautiful wooden stocks of the examples you are show casing.
There is also the Seneca dragonfly which is interesting.
And Seneca also make a PCP which is self contained with the option to fill via a probe. The Seneca Aspen.

The Innova didn't have a hammer at all, it was a blow-off valve design in which the trigger holds the valve closed, that's why you'll find the trigger gets heavier the more pumps you put in. There was a customised version of the Innova and the Crosman pump ups, was it Adam Whaley, something like that? The FX you mentioned, didn't it also have the option to fill it from a bottle too?

    • @hotair4269
      @hotair4269  5 років тому

Correct info about the Innova Rob :) The Fx independence I mentioned could be filled with a bottle to get 20 shots but defeated the point really . A few shooters ripped the pump out and just converted to a normal pcp with a bigger reservoir.

    • @nygelsylvester4634
      @nygelsylvester4634 5 років тому

The trigger did not hold the valve forward it was in the mk1 a sliding sear block with a hole in it then later in the mk2 it was updated to a sliding sear plate with a hole in it same as the ace, the trigger was used as a lever that lifted the sear block/plate until the valve was opposite the hole and pop the valve would shoot back allowing the air to enter the transfer port. A good polish of the sear components and the valve end face and these triggers can be made crisp and smooth and predictable.

Great show guys and fantastic rifles!
I grew up using multi-pumpers, so this one really brought back some memories.. Fun times..
The FX Indy - That's a really cool concept, and from what I hear from some owners,
they are really fun and extremely accurate rifles! They're just expensive and a bit niche..
Another model was mentioned - That would be the *ATI Nova Freedom*
[Made by Nova Vista - Imported By ATI / American Tactical] Available in .177 and .22 caliber.
I've had the .22 cal model since they came out, and I absolutely love it. They are very fun guns.
Extremely light weight and accurate too. www.americantactical.us/5690/detail.html
From 0 psi, I think it required 40-60 pumps to bring the cylinder psi up to 200 bar..
From there, it can be fired and while they're not regulated, the pressures drop predictably..
Due to the pressure curve, you'll want to find the 'sweet spot' where pressure flattens out..
On mine, that's around 185 bar or so, and I can shoot 5-10 shots with ridiculous accuracy.
To keep that, just re-pump back to the 185, and repeat..
Alternatively, if maxed at 185, you can take 1 shot, then pump 1-2 times, shoot again, repeat..
So, two different methods of keeping the accuracy / consistency as high as possible.
From a full 200 bar fill down to around 100 bar, I was still getting 20+ consistent shots in..
There was just a bit more deviation in the POI when just letting the psi drop off that way.
Knowing their curve and where the pellets would impact through that curve,
you just adjust with hold over/under to keep the pellets where they need to be.
They also offer a 2-level [high / low] transfer port adjustment switch for high / low power
as well as also being able to fine tune power via the rear hammer spring adjustments..
Lastly, the triggers are also adjustable as far as 1st stage take up and 2nd stage pull weight.
    =)
    Sam -

Never seen a left handed stocked Innova. I thought the factory stock was only ambidextrous. Like to see a picture of it , maybe someone fitted a custom stock to it.

@@hotair4269 Custom stocks did some back in the day, but as far as i know the innova was never imported with anything other than the plain symmetrical stock that had no cheek piece . There are some awesome stocks out there on innov's. Mick French did some outstanding full on custom woodwork for them, if you want a pic how would i forward to you ?
