Walt is a genius. He did not say that they will die as soon as they attempt to run away, but maybe a day or a year later. The goal is for them to live in fear EVEN AFTER they run away and eventually consider giving the money to the Walt's family, even though in reality no one was watching them.

What’s interesting is that Walt is ok with everybody thinking that Gretchen and Elliot are the ones giving their money to walts kids, when in fact only Gretchen and Elliot know it’s Walt’s money. This shows that the most important thing to Walt’s ego, is that Gretchen and Elliot know that he was successful on his own, without them.

I think it's quite the opposite: the true Heisenberg was Walt during the whole season 5: a druglord acting not for his family, but only for himself and for his success. After Ozymandis he slowly turns into Walt with an internalized Heisenberg: he acts like Heisenberg, but only to redeem himself from what Heisenberg did. The fact he wears the same clothes of the first episode is symbolic.

When the “hitmen” showed up, I was honestly kind of scared as well. Just seeing the two laser pointers in the darkness and knowing Walt’s mental state in previous episodes, I sort of knew he very easily would have gone through with his threat but with real hitmen. Heisenberg is scary man.
He no longer had any criminal connections. No more black book from Saul, he was betrayed by Jack's crew and he murdered Mike's guys. Skinny Pete and Badger where all he had, of course Gretchen and Elliot didn't know that

Wow, it's been a while.
Alright, let me break it down as best as I can for you.
There was a fan named Cordasco who, ironically, was also suffering from cancer. (If my sources are correct).
He actually met with the creators of Breaking Bad including Vince Giligan.
He asked Vince and the crew if they could bring back Elliot and Gretchen and give their story a proper end.
Vince agreed and even offered to let the fan know the ending of the show before it released. Cordasco refused and said he wanted to watch the finale with everyone when it actually aired.
Sadly, Cordasco died before the finale came out but his wish came true.

True story; I had finally gotten my brother to watch the show last year. We watched this finale together and at this scene, I tried SO HARD not to laugh when the red dots hit their chests because I knew what was happening. I had to LITERALLY bury my face in the couch cushion as to not spoil it for him that there was a comedic ending. At the end of the scene with Badger and Skinny, we LOST IT. We had to pause it due to how hard we were laughing. What made it funnier to him was that he thought I was crying or trying not to get emotional because he thought I knew that they would actually die. We were scream laughing for like half an hour. Honestly.

I was kinda bummed because he had so much more money he could’ve given away, but all he wanted from the start was $737,000.

I think my favourite part of this scene is that Walt fully would've used professional hitmen and the only reason he gave the job to Badger and Skinny Pete was because it was cheaper and he knew Elliot and Gretchen wouldn't know the difference
Not because it was cheaper, but because at this point of the series he couldn't move freely, organize things as effectively and such. His likeness is all over media, his name etc. Finding Hitmen isn't easy, especially ones that would do the job even after he was dead, too many variables, too many risks. He was forced to play this instead

Kinda not getting the whole point of this scene. He comes off as this super cunning and ruthless drug kingpin when all he’s doing is a last desperate effort to have the remaining fruits of his labor actually make a meaningful impact on somebody’s life. This is nothing but a broken man trying to get recognized for the awful but impressive things he did, Gretchen and Elliott are in no way beneath his foot lmao just look at their house
“My children are victims of their monstrous father” this line is mostly sarcastic but you can hear there’s some genuineness in his voice when he says it. Another showing of how he’s come to terms with his actions and such.

Walter learned the handshake from Gus. Just like he learned many things from his other enemies.
And the way he speak, negotiate calmly in stoic voice remind me of Mike.
There's a theory out there that establishes that Walter "took" some of the behavioural aspects of the people he's killed, and in this clip you can see that he behaves differently, at times like gus, at times like mike, it's so interesting

The attention to detail is astounding at 2:19 If you look carefully, you can see Walter gave a stronger impression of hiring professional hitman by directing them to point the lasers slightly to the left side of their bodies. Perfectly over their heart.

It was a cool line. The truth is that Walter walked away from Gray Matter due to his insecurity. For all we know, with his personality, he couldn't build a multi billion dollar company. Gretchen and Elliot did that, not Walt.

Its a petty and pathetic line, knowing walt left because of his fragile ego.
One of Walt's best plans/schemes of the entire series. And yet bittersweet because he will ultimately accomplish his original goal -- take care of his family -- they'll just never know it was really him doing it, they'll think it was Gretchen and Elliot. The irony that he had to let go of his ego in order to make it happen. And the way he scared them was ingenious -- giving them various times when the "hit" could happen -- a day, a week, a year.... if they don't do as he said they'll constantly be looking over their shoulders.
Ego is how you see yourself. Your self image. When Gus spoke to him about what defines a man he knew how to get to Walters mind. (Back then in season 3 when Gus still was a few steps ahead of Walt) he knew Walt didn't care what other people especially his family think about him, but rather cared about what he thinks about himself and what he thinks what people SHOULD think about him.
That's how Gus could manipulate Walt to cook for him.
That's why he told him: a man provides even though he is not appreciated, respected or loved. Walts ego immediate felt in love with that idea. Being a man who provides anyway. That's what he wanted to be for himself.
I love this scene. He negotiated as Walt at first, but then he enforced as Heisenburg. Genius writing.
Genuinely one of the best scenes in the entire show, and possibly the best sound design I ever saw in any show. The soft booms as the dots each turn off, the screeching noises when the dots light up, it's all so perfect.
What makes this so much better is that around 1:56, the laser goes off of them for a sec, showing that they’re really just two people with laser pointers lmao

I love how if anyone else in the show heard, "best hitmen west of the Mississippi" would've known its was bullshit, but not Gretchen and Elliot, two people who seem so inexperienced with anything bad, they assume walt's claim is true, and not just some line from a western he uses.
Well after everything Walt did. They knew has was the most wanted man for murder even though it was the NeoNazis that killed Hank and his partner, and they knew about his meth empire. They had no way of knowing any better.
Even if they 'knew' the line was cliched and Walt was playing it up for dramatic effect, it's hard to gamble your life on that information. It's not just about what you know or even what they know, but equally about what they know you know. e.g. Walt could be perceiving his marks as entirely street-unwise even if they weren't, and playing up the drama *with* hitmen outside, solely to cement his point. Even if they had any indication Walt was lying here, would you take that chance? Would you risk you and your wife's life on that chance?
There where multiple people in multiple prisons murdered in a 3 minute time frame

It’s very. Sets the bar really high, before watching BB i watched a lot of CW shows for instance and even kinda liked. Now is impossible, you keep searching for the next “hit” and the patience with lazy writing ends very quickly

What's funny is that by this point Walter no longer had any criminal connections. No more black book from Saul, he was betrayed by Jack's crew and he murdered Mike's guys. Skinny Pete and Badger where all he had, of course Gretchen and Elliot didn't know that and Walt as always used his resources brilliantly

Unlike Jimmy who lost everything, Walter actually accomplished what he planned all along: he died and left all the money in the world for his kids.
But Jimmy still have friends in prison who still call him Saul who respects him because he helps either them, their families or their friends throughout his action as Saul Goodman.
It was also implied that he got Kim back at the end. I think Saul had a better ending because he paid for his crimes, but he got something back in return. It was a good redemption arc.
I think that‘s to miss the whole point of the finale. Jimmy went to prison *as* Jimmy McGill. Contrary to what Chuck said about him, Jimmy showed he was capable of change when he intentionally sabotaged his plea deal and confessed before the court (and, maybe more importantly, before Kim). He finally owned up to his actions and buried Saul Goodman in the grave. He did what neither Walt nor Mike could do, namely, overcome the „bad choice road“.

Fun Fact: Apparently the whole reason Gretchen and Elliot appears in Season 5 is because of a big fan that had cancer during the show's production. The fan met the cast as well as Vince Gilligan who asked him what the show was missing before season 5 was filmed. The fan replied with how he wanted to see more of Gretchen and Elliot and what happens with their relationship with Walt.
The chilling sound when the laser pointers come on is so well done. Kudos to the sound people.
