Very good video! It is nice to see different level riders ride these machines. Anyone who loves riding can relate to one of these riders. It'll be cool to see more videos like this on other types of bikes and different tracks. Well done guys and good content AJ.
Man you (AJ) ripped that 125 tiddler around that track like noone I've ever seen! Super impressive that you were actually faster on the 125. At 200-ish lbs I'm too heavy for a 125 2 stroke, but for someone 140-160 lbs I'd say that bike is perfect. If only the AMA would allow 125s and 150s to line up against 250Fs I think they could be competitive.
I'm a newer rider at I weigh 215. I've got a 2022 Husky te300i Rockstar, 2022 KTM 250 xc TPI and a 2022 KTM 125 xc. The 125 xc pulls me just fine but I am doing the 150 conversion kit. THAT will be fun. The 125 is amazing because it's so light and nimble. The guy who convinced me to buy the 125 weighs over 230 lbs and rides one himself.
@@DRIVESHOWTV Thanks for this info. Its good to know these 125s will pull me around then, since I'm bumping up against 214 fully dressed. When I was 180-ish I used to have a '89 KX80 play bike that I could ride but couldn't take of jumps because it would probably have broken the rear shock and fender! That was a fun bike and I remember it bucking me off when I tried to show off and do a donut lol.
I wonder how everyone’s lap times would have changed with some really cheap mods to the 125, especially Eriks. Flywheel weight, getting the head cut, and even changing the power valve springs change the power a lot. Really surprised on AJ’s results the most, thought the 125 wouldn’t even be close (I know, the shifting issues on the 250.). Our local pro is the same way on his 150sx over his 450. His results are actually about the same on either in Supermoto. Only really takes the 450 out for a huge track we have
I love You Rockin the BABBITTS I learned how to "KILL THE TRACK" On a 86' CR5OO In 94' Then in 2001 I bought a New CR500, late 30s and threw my 40s was cleaning out all jumps corners ,tracks. 56 now and been still killing it🏁 KX 450 09 Stacks up well against cr 500 got both and great suspension guy🏁 Ride on AJ and the rest of every body.
Lol I knew the higher skilled rider would be faster on the 2 stroke. Rode a 2021 KTM 150sx a week ago and was my first time on a 2 stroke in 14 years and I was hauling on the bike!
The second Corner after your Finish Line jump made you faster on that 125 you took that corner so smooth it was Unreal 13:30 to 13:47 you picked up at least a half second on the 250
I'd say the KTM is the standard, the go to bike for 2t. The new Yamaha YZ is interesting, but it's gonna have to be significantly better to de-throne the KTM. TBH ( and I don't know your riding level ) either colour bike would be amazing!
The new yz still won't hold a candle to a ktm. The new motor changes are nothing significant to make it competitive with the orange bikes. Never mind the fact ktm is still lighter, more powerful, better brakes and over all build quality/parts used make the yz look and feel so cheap in comparison. I was a die hard yz guy till I made the switch to orange. 150sx there's zero comparison the yz is a dinosaur
I think everyone looks safer and fast on the 250 but in the case of Aj he got a better time on the 125 cuz he managed to stay low on the "triple" in the middle cuz he couldn't develop the power delivery on the 125 like in 250
Kind of amazing for a bike that hasn’t had a lot of upgrades since 2006, and it can still bring the heat with new tech bikes✌️Popping smoke BluCru rolling!
Thank you for this Video I am just starting back riding at (55) and riding a KX100 struggling a bit with riding in the power ban all the time always feeling like I'm in the wrong gear or to nervous to go up the next gear when coming in corners or jumps. being 5'2 .120lb the bike feels perfect for size . Common problem with the shifting but you can fix it. Take the clutch cover off and basket out then you will find bolt 18 is loose, lock tite and put back together.
When my brother and i raced, I was on 250f and he was on 125 2t. We'd swap back and for for a shot now and then. Going from the 4t to the 2t I couldn't believe how much the weight difference was! The 2t was so light and flickable, but I had to dedicate 50% of my brain to keeping the thing on pipe. For me as an older (and slightly unfit) guy, the 4t is where it's at. It's like riding an automatic. Stick it in 3rd and ride 80% of the track, concentrate on lines and make use of the engine braking. I have to be honest with myself about how fast I actually am, and how fast I could be. So buying wise, when I look at the price of the 125 next to the 250f there is no competition. The 250f wins every time. The 2ts are a lot more expensive than I think they probably should be. If the price difference was greater, I may be swayed.
Last time I rode a 250f was in 2012 on a 2011 RMZ. Thinking back it really didn't have enough low end power and 450 feels much easier to ride bc of this. I'm a beginner and 450 feels better all around compared to that RMZ. I know they increased the power of the 250f's sometime a few years later, maybe that was part of the problem for me. And the 450 I'm riding now is a 2007 kxf, all new bearings in engine, new crank and piston.
Great video AJ, Awesome giveaway opportunity to come ride for a few hours with you. I'll just keep watching the videos and hopefully learn here and there when I ride my old crf450r in the small turns track I got. Also yeah can't go wrong with 2 stroke ktms would love a 125!
My 2021 350SXF has the same issue shifting from 2nd to 3rd under load. Drives me nuts some times but Im also kind of used to because my 14 KX250F had the same exact issue. Hope you can make it to MN someday. Would love to take one of your classes!
Im no one to judge but will say that Aj you’re opinion in this video counts the most simply because the others don’t really know how to ride a 125 properly, 125’s really reward those who ride them hard and if your a beginner rider that’s not aggressive you will probably hate it lol.. Daniel is a good rider but the way he was breaking and cornering on it you could tell he doesn’t have much experience riding one.. I’m sure if he spent some time on it he would be great.
You have to remember though that the rider’s in the market for a 125 are a wide variety of skill levels. So, it’s important to have multiple opinions at varying skill levels of test riders. A bike could trend to be better suited for an expert rider or vice versa, and that feedback has value for the consumer
The beauty of it is that you can see, for every skill level, what the difference is. Every rider has different riding backgrounds, I don't really see a pros opinion being more meaningful in this case. I'm old and slow and go about the same speed on any bike.
@@straighttimestirrups I agree man.. if you learn to ride a 125 well you will shred on any bike… I mainly race hare scrambles and enduro and my main bike is a ktm 300 but I also have an 04 ktm sx 125 I cross train on all the time… the 300 is great but it allows you to be lazy unlike the 125

Check the VitalMX thread "KTM/HUS 125/150/150 jetting thread" It worked really well on my 17' 125. However, if you're going through plugs, something else besides jetting is likely wrong.
When I turned 30 and no longer had to race 17 year olds I bought a new RM 125. Didn't have any trouble beating the veterans on their 250 and 400s. Also twice as much fun to ride!
prime example of keeping the wheels on the ground faster doesnt mean you have to jump "certain" triples as triples if you landing and on the gas wide open people ask how my laps faster when i dont jump certain jumps all the way and always tell them i make it up my hitting my turns like a text book,JUMP FOR SHOW AND CORNER FOR DOUGH!!! All about the technique and anyone can jump a jump but not everyone can drag bats and have a footpeg rut next to main rut LMAO
One question I have about the test....did you guys ride a number of laps on your own bikes prior to testing the KTM's? Always better test a new bike after having got in the flow on your own bike.
Hey, what's a thing I can do to train my mind to be on the balls of my feet more often? I find myself on the arches more often then not and I am just trying to train that out
You were right. Fun format! Were both bikes broken in and had an oil change? I bet that would help the 250 shift problems as KTM knows by now how to make transmissions.
Mad respect to the first guy for riding his own ride, and not trying to “keep up” with the other riders. Well done, my man.

When I turned 30 and no longer had to race 17 year olds I bought a new RM 125. Didn't have any trouble beating the veterans on their 250 and 400s. Also twice as much fun to ride!
Had a similar experience, now at 62 I'm ready for a new KTM 125. :-)
Outro song?
If you know how too ride a 2-stroke you can be just as fast or faster than a 4-stroke. A 2-stroke just isn’t as easy too ride fast
prime example of keeping the wheels on the ground faster doesnt mean you have to jump "certain" triples as triples if you landing and on the gas wide open people ask how my laps faster when i dont jump certain jumps all the way and always tell them i make it up my hitting my turns like a text book,JUMP FOR SHOW AND CORNER FOR DOUGH!!! All about the technique and anyone can jump a jump but not everyone can drag bats and have a footpeg rut next to main rut LMAO
I wonder if you’ll ever get the chance to ride a 2001 cr125 ! Love the videos man learning a lot from you
Aj to orange next year???
Hmm possibly!
@@AjCatanzaro let’s go
Yeah where these bikes come from.
Sure looks good on orange
One question I have about the test....did you guys ride a number of laps on your own bikes prior to testing the KTM's? Always better test a new bike after having got in the flow on your own bike.
Hey, what's a thing I can do to train my mind to be on the balls of my feet more often? I find myself on the arches more often then not and I am just trying to train that out
You just need to keep it in your mind whole time that you need to be on balls. Then eventually they will be there without having to think about it.
Maybe skipping..I guess it would improve cardio as well.
Nice
Ktm builds great bikes
have you tested a gasgas yet
En gros quand t'es fort le 2t vas plus vite que le 4t
You were right. Fun format!
Were both bikes broken in and had an oil change? I bet that would help the 250 shift problems as KTM knows by now how to make transmissions.
Who’s ready for camp at pineville
