    For those who don't know Hamish has taken his time with building that motor Meticulously. Everything on it & in it is refurbished and new to include every nut and bolt. This is going to be an amazing build with all the Sauce🤫. Jeffries & all the purple fuzzy walls😈. Can't wait to see her all done & dressed up 🤘

    Dude, you're my hero. Looking awesome Hamish. The welds don't have to be pretty if they are strong, and they look the part. You won't see them anyways. The oil pan looks like it'll work just fine once the 'window' has a piece of plate welded in. I have a couple recommendations that'll make your life easier... make the radiator support removable. It's the BEST way to go about a swap on the e30 chassis where space is at a minimum, and it makes it so much simpler to work on. I have done this before and you can use many methods. Easiest way is to cut it near the fenders, leaving a small 'tab' on either side, where you can weld a couple small brackets, and drill them out. You can even use the first bolt that comes down along the top edge of the fender. I did this twice on a couple track cars I built for customers. I wish I had pictures still, but they're long gone unfortunately. You can do this awesome 'mod' rather easily. Honestly you don't even need to weld it if you didn't want. You can use rivets on the support side of the cut, and the fender bolt, or riv-nuts/nutserts. You can even use some scrap connectors (male/ female) to make a 'break out' to disconnect all the wiring shit that goes up front. I did this on a few cars where they were tracked/ taken apart frequently and it speeds things up and really simplifies it. You don't need a mil-spec connector or anything, you can literally go outside the shop and cut some out of a donor car. Solder and heatshrink them and you'll be stylin. Second suggestion is the get yourself some urethane engine mounts. The stock fluid filled hydraulic mounts are total shit. They're soft and they tear extremely easily. The drivers side is always the first one to go, because of the inherent way the engine torques/ twists. I had two sets of Revshift ones in both my e34 540/6's. They made a huge difference and I didn't notice any NVH at all. This is especially important to make sure the motor doesn't move since your clearance is at an absolute minimum to begin with. If you really want to dial in the angle/ height of the motor, you can also grab some urethane round stock in bulk, and a couple sleeves and grade 10 hardware. This will allow you to cut the bushings to the exact height you want. You can also space the steering rack slightly if the geometry is an issue. Akg motorsport and other vendors sell bump steer correction plates as well that will help remedy the rack placement in relation to the pan this could help you. Poly trans mounts with metal enforcer cups (uuc), akg motorsport, etc are cheap and also make a huge difference. If you have to notch the frame it isn't a big deal at all. Honestly, with a block of wood and a BFH, you'll probably have plenty of clearance. I used to have to clearance frame rails quite often because I used to do a lot of vr6 swaps on mk2 and mk1 chassis VW's. There is very little room on the drive belt side in those cars. It's no big deal to bang on it a little.
    Thing is looking awesome and truth be told I'm totally jealous broski!!! Wish I was there to help you out, but I'm glad Aaron, Chris, and Will are lending a hand. Its gonna be a sick ass car when your done. One of the biggest hurdles on those swaps is also the drivers side header/ manifold. It comes stupid close to the steering shaft, so some careful 'massaging' of the primaries in that area will probably be in order. I hate those stupid pcv 'cyclonic separator' setups that they have on the back of the intake. You can cap off the one port if memory serves me correctly and the small nipple gets a vacuum signal from the fpr maybe??? I can't remember man, it's been ages since I messed around with an m60. They're great motors though that sound wicked.
    Really wish I was out there so I could build some ridiculous obnoxious swap and participate in all the jackassery and good times with you fellas!!! I gotta just say "fuck it" to my life out here and just come live in the shop there. Hey, I already have a camping cot, why not?!?!? Lmao. Looking forward very much to the next installment and to see your progress. Keep it real!!!

      I looked into a removable core support when I was first starting, but this chassis had a decent smack to the front end and the repair done by the previous owners would’ve made it a bit more in depth than what I’m willing to do right now. Totally thinking about it in the future though...
      Good to know about the motor mounts, I definitely notifiers they’re a bit ‘loose’ I might look into the softer poly options, but anything too hard isn’t super attractive, I’d like it to be comfy for daily driving. 1/n

      You’re gonna like what the plan is for the pcv though! Angry ass has made an awesome plate for the back that will end up going to a metered, recirculated catch can! Also believe it or not, the headers weren’t too bad at all! I lucked out buying the right bends & with Aaron’s help they turned out super mint! I thiiink that’s next ep iirc... you’ll have to come visit for sure, and we do have tentative plans to head out east for a few events in the near future too!

      @@DENVERBEERANDOIL dude that's awesome about the catch can setup!!! I prefer installing a catch can and ditching the factory failure prone PC crap. Much better of a system. Very glad to hear that the headers are going to fit well for you! That is a problem on so many swaps, definitely not just the m60. Very cool man!
      Here's an idea for the removable core support: Go outside the shop, find e30 that was hit anywhere but in the front, remove the core support from donor car, use very small pieces from your stock support to weld on the edges and 'overlap' them. The good part about this is the 'tabs' from the stock support will fit perfectly. Dude, if I was there I would totally hook you up. Its rather easy to do this, eventhough I know cutting into it is kind of nerve wracking. You don't need to buy a support when you have plenty of e30's to cut a straight one out of. I worked in a body shop for some years as well, so I know a little bit about these type of unibody 'repairs.'
      I DOUBT you'll notice any vibrations or roughness from the poly mounts. I NEVER did in ANY of my BMW'S that I installed them on, and were talking 100's including customers cars. You'll be glad you got them, because the feel of the power transmitting to the ground is much more positive, and the car feels more responsive. Poly trans mounts will help prevent a money$hift as well, and nobody wants that!
      Is there room for me to sleep in a corner over there or something?? I'm literally ready to say "f this" to this lame NY crap and come and work there. I'm totally serious, that place is like a DREAM JOB for me. I am a hardcore BMW nut, and really, I love anything with an engine and I'll work on anything. I miss turning wrenches. I have done it for over 20 years so it's my passion.

    Anyone else fearful when the trans decides to twist from all that power the motor wants to put out? I’m betting we hear the out put shaft scrape on the ground lol good luck guys!

    Dude this is awesome! My dad and I did an M50 swap in my e30 a few years ago and I love it. This M60 swap seems way more involved, but I bet the pay off is going to be huge! Awesome job dude! Excited to see it all come together!

    I remember a guy telling me you have to run a 540i alternator instead of a 740i one to fit.

      So I didn’t get it in the video, but with the trans mounted correctly the alternator clears with about 10mm

      Yeah the 740 ones are big. If memory serves me correctly there is a 160 and 140 amp option. I believe the e31/ e32/ e34/ e38/ e53 all have like 2 or 3 choices amp wise and I think some are Bosch and some are Valeo maybe??? Going on a hell of a long time ago trying to refresh my memory. I would check each of those chassis on realoem, because I guarantee itll show multiple amp ratings which plays the biggest factor in the size of the alternator due to more copper windings per higher amperage rating. I think Hamish will be all good though. If the clearance is that detrimental on the frame rail, some persuading with a block of wood and BFH will be in order. So so excited for this swap, you'd think it was my car!!!

    I’m doing the same swap when the engine arrives, so I haven’t really had a chance to test fit it. How much extra clearance did you need for the oil pan? Maybe I could put something to space the subframe instead of modifying the oil pan?

      You could do either or, garagistic used to sell subframe spacers but I’m not sure if they’re still for sale on the website. I had 25mm taken out of the pan, the tapered section that goes from the back to the sump is what needs cutting, then a flat section to replace it, this is all with the garagistic lo-pro engine arms though, so may be different depending on your arms

    Hi, I have the same swap in my 830. Is there anyway you can help me out with the throttle cable issue I keep breaking mine and I had to custom make one because I didn’t know which one would fit but can you point me in the right direction for a throttle key that fits with the M60 conversion.

      Youd be surprised actually, but it's only a little heavier than an inline 6. Besides, he has no air conditioning or extra shit hanging over the front axle (the worst place is forward,) which is good for around a 40-50 lb. weight savings alone. If he runs a set of decent springs with high enough rate, like a Ground Control setup he can corner balance like he said, adjust the rates as needed. You can even order whatever rate spring off the shelf from G.C., Eibach, etc. This swap is actually a little more common than you'd think, especially overseas. Hell theres guys putting m70's in the e30 chassis.

      @@psavel274 Yea you're right. Looks like since it's all alluminim it's not that bad compared to an m30 for example. Does the m60 have any power you can pull out of it N/A? You've got those huge dual cam cylinder heads taking up lots of room I would hope it's worth it over the compact package that is the LS.

      They aren't as powerful for the price point of an LS motor, well because it's a BMW and they don't sell m60 crate engines in Jegs or Summit like they do with an LS. I guess its more of the 'purest' type of thing to keep the BMW drivetrain in there. The b44 m60 hybrid like he has built definitely has some potential to make decent power. The most cost effective mods with these engines is a full exhaust, injectors (doesn't need a different tune to run larger ones like say an s50,) software, ltw flywheel, larger runner intake manifold (I believe BMW made 4 versions that came on m60 variants,) Iirc, you can also swap a 4" Porsche MAF (DME will still run the car without a reflash/ reburned eprom, bbtb, etc. Its not really a power-adder mod, but a 3.15lsd makes a good difference over the stock open diff 2.93 that's usually mated to the 6 speed trans. A set of cams from a reliable tuner like Shrick and a flow bench really makes these engines breathe. With some fab work, and alpha-n tuning you can run 8 ITB's and ditch the MAF altogether if you have the resources. Obviously JE and other tuners make overbore pistons, other vendors make rods, Ferrea valves, h.d. springs, etc. There used to be a few s/c kits, and some guys DIY'd supercharger setups out there, and finally the most expensive but doable turbo fabrication, but it'll be mostly a 'one-off' type of affair. The parts absolutely exist, they're just much more money to build than the LS. I'd be willing to bet with all the bolt-ons if he had a healthy motor he would see 350+whp/ maybe 400ft lb torque. Literally the only drawback to building one of these is the lack of affordable aftermarket parts support. I mean, the stuff is out there, but expect to pay to really wring the power out of any BMW v8. It will be a massive upgrade over any m20b25 or others simply because of displacement factor and power to weight ratio since it's going into the e30 chassis. I can really appreciate these engines because they're pretty understated and everyone focuses on the motorsport drivetrains.
