This is my favorite commercial of all time. I saw it on broadcast TV when I was much younger, and would recite it almost word for word for anyone who would listen. I recently did a search to try to show some friends and there it was. It's as good today as it was back then. Wonderful!
@@ray_ray_7112 Quote: _"Yes! It is a classic. I always saw it during Yankee games back then."_ I remember the Ballantine beer jingle. "It's crisp, it's light. It's precisely right!"
@@ray_ray_7112 Here's a link. ua-cam.com/video/cfzTeKLh3Kw/v-deo.html The first jingle comes pretty close to the one I remember. The jingle I actually remembered as a child was a little different. The last line was "Ice cold Ballantine beer!"
I fondly remember this commercial too also from the Yankee games on WPIX. Those were the days of Frank Messer, Phil Rizzuto and Bill White doing the play by plays and Sparky Lyle coming out in relief in a Datsun B-210 painted in Yankee pinstripes and logos. Thanks for the memories! That made me break out in goosebumps when I saw it!!
And on WOR, Mets games were heavily sponsored by Schaefer. So I'll mention Bob Murphy, Lindsey Nelson and Ralph Kiner. (But loved Scooter, Messer and White on WPIX.)
YEP. That's just what I just posted. I knew someone else here would remember the Shaefer Beer commercial from watching Yankees games. IT IS A CLASSIC!!
OMGGG haven't seen this ad in over 40 years...remember seeing it between innings of a Yankee telecast on WPIX Ch 11....on a side note....the man who says "SHHH" during the commercial...that's none other than Bentley from The Jeffersons tv show...what memories.
Thank you for uploading this. I remember this commercial on WPIX over 40 years ago during the Yankee games. And I hadn't seen it in all that time, until now. It awakened a lot of memories in me
Yes Rheingold was Mets beer sponsor until 1974 then Schaefer became sponsor. Schaefer was sponsor of Knicks and Rangers with the ‘Schaefer Circle of Sports’
@@hamburg1306 When Rheingold left the Mets, they got Schaefer? Ok, then when Schaefer left the Yankees to go to the Mets, the Yankees got Miller. Right. Wow, it's been awhile, but I think that's right. Great days!
The singer with the golden voice was Broadway star Larry Kert. He was the original Tony in West Side Story at the Wintergarden Theater Died of AIDS very young. A huge loss to the musical theater world.
This is one of the iconic Schaefer commercials. Another is Edd Kalehoff on the Moog synthesizer. Missing on you tube but not forgotten is Willie Mosconi playing pool John Scarne card tricks and hockey linesman climbing boards to get out of the way of the puck.
Amen DeeDee. I also used to watch it on Channel 9, during the Knicks, Rangers, and Mets. Also, during harness racing from Roosevelt and Yonkers, before WWWF Championship Wrestling on Saturday nights.
Oh I wish I could go back to that time and New Jersey. Clutching my tutaloop radio at 10 p.m. when the Yankees were playing against the California Angels. You can't go home again
This commercial ran incessantly during Knick and Ranger games on WOR, channel 9 and probably Met games as well. I could watch this endlessly. Where is the other great commercials A: where the guy takes his radio to the repairman and the radio will only play the Schafer jingle. Repair man ends with "Hey, where did get these batteries, Huh?" and holds up two D batteries that look like mini Schaefer beer cans. also, the one where the guy can't get a date when he is in college, everybody drinking beer and then this nerd shows up at the reunion with a showstopper blonde and the commercial ends with a guy saying "This is your wife!?" looked all over the net, can't find either of those but this totally rocks.
Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations Season 7 Episode 11 - Naples brought me here. Bourdain says the beer's slogan is burned into his brain. This commercial is genius and truly captured my heart, mind, and soul. Thank you very much for postin this and wishing you a most wonderful year.
My mother tells me that when I was a toddler I would come running whenever this commercial came on, and I would stare at the screen, mesmerized, when he sang.
At one time, Schaefer had a distinguishable taste profile, bottles or draft. It was a truly refreshing lager. Something happened once Schaefer stopped brewing in NY. Maybe company was taken over by bean-counters. Wish they would re-create the original. Same demise is now going on at Budweiser as the new owners tamper with and cheapen the Budweiser hops thinking no one will notice. I smile with the Schaefer commercial encouraging excess consumption...knowing it would not be possible today. Schaefer knew its customers.
Ballantine, Shlitz, Schmidts, Pabst, Carlings, and the list goes on....all ruined. Basically they sell out and while the new owner uses sometimes the same recipe, they use a chemical called a "starter", and this "ages" a beer. The problem is that this chemical aging takes place in roughly 4 hours as opposed to the 32 day usual time period to lager these beers properly. Of course, if you mix this chemical cocktail w/ inferior ingredients, you get a hint of the original, but in reality you are drinking garbage. Recently some old names like Rheingold, and Ballantine IPA have been resurected, brewing them like the originals....'hope the trend continues. Drink up!
one of the best ad spots of all time.. simply incredible

My dad was a Schaefer truck driver in NYC for almost 40 years up to 1979. I remember him wearing that uniform.
Bless his heart! 😍😍😍
Did everyone make him sing too? 😆😆
I don't remember any black beer delivery drivers....the companies wouldn't hire us.
@@dwightpowell6673 Well, apparently it was good enough for the commercial, at least. 🤗. Cheers!
My dad kept your dad working
NOW, close your eyes and imagine the same voice singing, "Maria" from "West Side Story" . What a voice!!
Larry Kert (1930 - 1991)
The singer, of course, is Larry Kert-the original Tony in West Side Story. Nice memory. RIP Larry.
Finally after almost 45 years I find out who the guy singing is! Thank you.
I know that's right
Great tenor voice! 👍
Great Factoid. Now want to see west side story again
You mean the original Broadway cast or he was in the movie? Is this a shortened version of the original commercial or is this the whole thing
I see that one of the beer men, the one who says "shh" to the guy who comes in late, played a neighbor on the tv show "The Jeffersons."
His character's name was "Bently" 🙂
He's Paul Benedict. He also played the Number Painter on Sesame Street.
Also in the movie "Jeremiah Johnson". Amongst others.

Love it. Great fond memory. Unfortunately by then the beer was swill.

I remember this one!
I remember the commercial. I like the jingle, but am not a big beer drinker. So I got more from the song than the beer.
Spell check: Schaefer.
Right! :-)
The guy with the big jaw and moustache is Paul Benedict (the Mad Painter on "Swsame Street" and Mr. Bentley on "The Jeffersons").
Thanks for posting! Love this.
Best beer ever made!
Ahh, memories!! 😊
My cousin married the son of the owner. Son took it over. Eventually sold it. Son is still alive and still married to my cousin.

It's Schaefer!
