Yes, it was the beer of the NY Mets. The Yankees had Schaefer beer, as their beer sponsor. I grew up on Long Island. Both were good beers, reasonsbly priced.
My beer is Rheingold, the dry beer. Think of Rheingold whenever you buy beer. It's not bitter, not sweet; it's the dry flavored treat. Won't you try extra dry Rheingold beer? :D
I feel stupid for enjoying this jingle. Because I'm a teetotaler, that's why! *I drink soda! Fruit juice! Water! Or a combination of the three!* I was a silly 8- or 9-year-old when I enjoyed this jingle.
"Mmmm this is a delicious pot roast Ruth!! *And it goes down well with Rheingold!"* "Thank you dear. Oh Lou, after dinner could you take the trash out. Our boy Rutherford can't because has to go to a study group tonight. And Louisa is at the sock-hop." LOL!!! Meanwhile with the kids away, Lou and Ruth can get sozzled up on beer. And oh yes... Golden Girls brought me here! Thanks for posting!
My stepfather+mother+stepgrandfather+grandmother would sing this song to me+in the same tune+song they would sing about lambies+horsies. Then they would sing the reingold beer commercial.
Definitely Silver Bullet brought me here! I remember singing this song as a kid in the late 60s-early 1970s! Had to look it up after the memory slammed me from out of left field! It’s REAL!! Now to get it Back out of my Poor Head!!!😅
So do I and I'm ashamed that I enjoyed the jingle (even though I wasan 8- or 9-year-old kid at the time and didn't know better). Because I am a teetotaler. I don't even take the wine at Eucharist! It should be unacceptable to write pretty tunes for an alcoholic drinks commercial
I wonder how many times they had to shoot those sequences of pouring beer into the glasses to get them just perfect? The head had to reach JUST to the top of the glass, but not overtop it, and there couldn't be any extra dribbles from the bottle at the end of the pour. This reminds me of a 1950s Mad magazine parody ad in which the "dry" beer was so dry, it was powder.
Beer as beer should *feel* "Let's face it, folks!......refreshing......never filling......beer as beer should taste......FOOEY! Taste shmaste! We of Potgold make no bones about it......Potgold makes you drunk! So get potted! Get Potgold....extra dry beer and *extra* extra dry beer!" -"Meet Miss Potgold!" (1954)
So many mentions of Golden Girls but doesn't anyone remember that the blind date Peggy Olsen walked out on ordered a Rheingold? He seemed like a nice guy but maybe too working class for Pegs.
I was surprise like most everyone else to see Rheingold beer was a real beer. Dorothy, Blanche, and Sophia's sang the jingle better than the original!😀
I believe they were one of the original sponsors of Mets Baseball back in the early 60's. And back in the day, celebs like Dean Martin and Leo Durocher endorsed it.
Every kid in the NYC area knew this song. I never knew until recently that it’s actually a classical song “Estudiantina Valse” by French composer Paul Lacome
Opening scene of Silver Bullet, the character is singing this jingle, right before he gets decapitated by the werewolf. Notice the full moon in the commercial.
My mom once asked me, when I was playing records, what was the name of the waltz I had just finished playing. She said that it was the Rheingold beer song. Of course, it was Waldteufel's Estudiantina. I think that jingle to myself whenever I hear the Estudiantina.
From wikipedia: (Rheingold Brewery) "The company (Rheingold) shut down four years after the construction of the twin towers of the World Trade Center was completed. During the cleanup of the WTC site following the collapse of the towers on September 11, 2001, numerous Rheingold beer cans were found in the rubble, having been hidden in the beams of the building decades earlier by construction workers who had drunk the beers on the job."
My beer is Rheingold, the dry beer. Think of Rheingold whenever you buy beer. It's not bitter, not sweet; it's the dry flavored treat. Won't you try extra dry Rheingold beer?
Thanks for the memories, as Mr. Hope used to say. I was, like a commenter below, listening to the Estudiantina waltz and started singing the commercial before I could stop myself. And I wasn't even old enough to drink beer when I listened to those commercials. Oh, well.
I was 8 or 9 when I enjoyed the jingle. Stupid of me. The Pepsi-Cola jingle would have been better. Unfortunately I don't remember any of the Pepsi-Cola jingles except "Uh-huh uh-huh you've got the right one baby", and that was long after the 70s. Oh geez, that's *diet* Pepsi-Cola? I like regular Pepsi-Cola. But at least "Uh-huh uh-huh you've got the right one baby" is *not for an alcoholic drink...* that's a consolation. Uh-huh! #teetotaler
Can someone make a 9 or 10 hour video of a parody of this? *My drink is Pepsi! A soft drink!* *Drink drink Pepsi if you're a teetotaler!* *It's non-alcoholic, it will not make you drunk!* *Teetotalers love Pe-ep-siiii!*
I don't drink. So why in tarnation do I like this tune? Or...why is it even acceptable to write a pretty tune for an alcoholic drink commercial? Embarrassing memory from the 70s. I was 8 or 9 and sang along with this jingle. Alcohol smells bad and tastes WORSE. I only took one sip of wine at first Eucharist and it was awful. Besides, I have enough problems as it is. Proud teetotaler, I am. *Nix on pretty tunes for alcoholic drink commercial jingles!* My drink is soda, just and fruit juice, I'm sorry I enjoyed this jingle! How ridiculous of me, how extra silly, This tune should not be pretty to hear! *opens can of Pepsi-Cola* Yum! Delicious soda!
Right. Back then, someone wearing an expensive suit and driving a first-class car would simply, casually saunter out of a grocery store holding open containers of beer. !!! Also, the reference to the newspaper [gossip] "columns" --- seen THAT in an ad lately?
Golden girls. didn't know this was a real beer lol
Literally the same thing I just thought. Lol. "I am the wolf!"
Yes, it was the beer of the NY Mets. The Yankees had Schaefer beer, as their beer sponsor. I grew up on Long Island. Both were good beers, reasonsbly priced.

RHEINGOLD WAS THE MAIN BEER SPONSOR FOR METS GAMES FOR MANY YEARS
Snoopy's Biggest Fan LOL me too. I had to check to see if it was real 😂

I’m watching that episode right now…I’ve seen it so many times but I’ve never thought to look this up until tonight 😂
Oh My God. I remembered the words. I REMEMBERED THE WORDS!!
I be old.
My father brought me here. We used call Rheingold Dad Beer. As most of our friends' dad also drank it.
I love how this uses Waldteufel's Estudiantina waltz for it's "jingle".
"Mmmm this is a delicious pot roast Ruth!! *And it goes down well with Rheingold!"*
"Thank you dear. Oh Lou, after dinner could you take the trash out. Our boy Rutherford

It's a nice tune. The original subject matter, though...thumbs down. *Lambies and horsies are a much much better topic.*
Definitely Silver Bullet brought me here! I remember singing this song as a kid in the late 60s-early 1970s! Had to look it up after the memory slammed me from out of left field! It’s REAL!! Now to get it Back out of my Poor Head!!!😅
Man that lady buys a lot of beer. That's a good wifey.
Golden Girlssssss
Wow it's a real song and product!
great commercial.
When they moved the brewery out of New York City, and no longer brewed it with NYC water, it was the beginning of the end for them
I remember those commercials
So do I and I'm ashamed that I enjoyed the jingle (even though I wasan 8- or 9-year-old kid at the time and didn't know better). Because I am a teetotaler. I don't even take the wine at Eucharist! It should be unacceptable to write pretty tunes for an alcoholic drinks commercial
@@claireforestgreenorgangeek7882 Remember the 'Miss Rheingold' contest?

I want those beer glasses 😍
I believe the voice of Pagliacci at 0:48 might belong to Thurl Ravenscroft.
Sure, you can pay more for a premium beer, but I know of no finer beer at any price than Rheingold, the Dry Beer! Little wonder it is so imitated.
Now, go listen to the elegant Estudiantina Waltz of Emile Waldteufel.....that is satisfying.
The waltz is nice. But I have no right to enjoy a jingle for alcoholic drinks!
Wonderful post. Thanks so much.
I heard about Rheingold through reading the war novel "Ice Cold In Alex"
Thurl in da house. But no grinch.
I miss Rheingold Beer
Golden girls brought me here dammit

There was a Rheingold ad on the Mets scoreboard at Shea Stadium.
Every kid in the NYC area knew this song. I never knew until recently that it’s actually a classical song “Estudiantina Valse” by French composer Paul Lacome
What year is was this beer
These ads were originally seen in 1956. Rheingold was originally brewed from 1883 through 1987. Today, it's offered by other brewers.
About 47 years ago I was at a Irish pub in the Bronx. They had ice cold Reingold on tap. To this day I swear it was the best beer I ever had.
Silver Bullet? Anybody?
I am 73. Moved from NYC at 19. I remember this beer as a kid. It was Dad’s beer. Never saw out west.
Opening scene of Silver Bullet, the character is singing this jingle, right before he gets decapitated by the werewolf. Notice the full moon in the commercial.
I know exactly what you mean. Even when you see the moon in this commercial, it makes me think of the opening of silver bullet.

Could that be the estimable Thurl Ravenscroft hitting those low notes in the 1st spot on this reel?
Has to be him.

I am a teetotaler but I always liked this tune.

Werewolves and decapitated railroad workers also love Rheingold.
