@@specky5038 I'm going to be in Edinburgh this September! (I hope, fingers crossed.) Maybe I can work it into conversation there and not have people stare blankly at me, like the do here. 🤣
Hi Cheryl, one of your silent followers here - till now 😊 This looked so simple and appropriate for an upcoming work team building day. Purchased my ingredients today. Thank you ❤️xx
It evokes memories of going to Grandma's from school and opening the kitchen door to the smell of these having been made, they used to be coated in chocolate. The aroma just filled the kitchen. Always makes me smile even after all these years!
We love these in the USA too! My Mom always made butterscotch treats, she used 1 pkg of butterscotch Morse’s and 1/2 c peanut butter! It was our favorite treat in the summer because she kept these in the fridge. She loved it because no hot oven necessary!
I love Rice Krispie treats, I grew up on them and my mom used to make them to send to my dad when he was in Viet Nam. My neighbor took them up a notch by melting some chocolate chips and drizzled it on them. I was babysitting her sons and they kept giving them to me, I wasn't disappointed.
Oh my! You have brought back some pleasant childhood memories Cheryl. I do not think that I have seen Rice cereal here in Northern Germany, but when I visit the US next month, I will make these for my grandbabies.
I make these so often, usually a double batch and have been making them thinner by putting in a cookie sheet pan so they're easier to eat for my toddler grandson. I use extra butter to make them softer and more gooey, and usually just put sprinkles or colored sugar on top so it doesn't melt in. Thank you for the tip about using non stick paper to press them down, that's been my biggest struggle, usually pressing with a buttered spoon for ages to get them smooth and solid!
When my son was in kindergarten, the teacher asked parents not to bring in cupcakes as they were super messy. My son asked for rice crispy treats. I piped frosting to look like a package. I’ve also added green food coloring to the melted marshmallow, then made blobs of the rice crispy stuffs and added candy eyes at Halloween. I absolutely love your candy strings and the little bits of color they add!
One of the greatest easy simple treats the world has ever known!! some tips, you can melt the butter and marshmallows in a giant microwave bowl, even easier. My family always adds a big scoop of peanut butter after the butter mix melts. I have never refrigerated it. We like ours softer, so we don't smoosh it much. I cut them smaller, makes them easier to snatch one and eat it before your kids see ya. ;). Good choice, Cheryl!
I was so happy to see you all the way in Scotland enjoying these! I thought only Americans made them 😁 They are a classic and I made them often for my kids when they were growing up! Always a treat 😋
No gluten either! A terrific recipe! I'll probably add hundreds and thousands to give it some extra colour but one of the commenters here suggested the butter may be a little brown so perhaps I won't need them.
very nice, never made them or had them, but I can foresee a bit of white chocolate strands on tops as well (or candy melts in a pretty colour) thanka for sharing
I haven't made those in many years but yours look so yummy I think I need to make some!! I have seen them at Christmas with marshmallows tinted green and red.
You will never believe that I just ordered the stuff from Sainsbury's along with my other shopping to make these. I make some of them covered in melted Galaxy Chocolate. Hoping for a family picnic on Saturday (says she listening to the torrential rain battering against the window) ...FEART I haven't heard that word in years bahahahah
These are excellent wee treats if you're watching your weight! I copied your recipe and I have 2 squares a day as a pudding and they more than satisfied my sweet tooth. And it's certainly cheaper than buying the Kellogg's 8 pack (£2.50)
A Rice Krispie Treat tastes so much better when vanilla is added after the marshmallows; before the cereal is added…the taste difference is incredible!
@@kinsley7777 yes it’s very nice in Denver but I am presently working on medical doctor on United state guard ship maximum security prison in the pacific sea. I have been to several countries due to the nature of my job. What about you?
My grandma used to make these for us. She has this weird martyr complex, so rather than eat the finishes treats, she would stand over the sink with the hot pot and the spatula, drizzling warm tap water into the pan, scraping the sides of it and eating the scrapings. She claimed that was her favorite part. She is a very.. quirky.. woman. 97 and still living on her own, although it's a retirement community. I could tell a new story about her strangeness every day for a year or more.
Hi Cheryl, sorry but needed to ask u an important question on ur rolls if I can. Can I omit the Lard? can't get it in Thailand unfortunately. Thanks again. Great channel
I have NEVER like the marshmallow version of Treats. Too gooey and sticky. But I do like the peanut butter-butterscotch version, which stay crispy. And I stir in chocolate chips just before putting them into the pan, so they don't melt too much. And it's easy to remember: ½ a jar or peanut butter, 1 bag of butterscotch chips, melted together, use to coat ½ box of Rice Krispies (about 6 cups), and as many chocolate chips as you want. They are not gooey or sticky, they turn out like the inside of a candy bar(Hershey's "Whatchamacallit"). I've had many converts.
My mum used to make this, was hard has heck, she then figured out to make them softer and more gooey but I cant for the life of me what it was she used.
Add peanut butter or any other nut butter, or even just a squirt of honey. I also make them thinner and I don't smoosh them as much. Hope that helps. :)
Add extra butter. The original recipe called for 1/4 cup butter to 4 cups marshmallows. Then they tried to make them lowfat by doing 1/4 cup butter to 5 cups marshmallows. I found they were hard and not so tasty. I use the 1/4 cup and an extra tablespoon and everyone loves how soft and gooey they are.
I just love you Cheryl. It’s so relaxing listening to you. We get to step away from the world for a moment. Thanks for that!

I love Rice Krispie treats! I learned that if you brown the butter first in the pan it gives it a delicious nutty flavor ❤️

Just so you know, they are much loved here in the States.

Oh I love that gorgeous stickiness! 😂😋
Adding the multicolored sprinkles made them so festive! 😁👍
I love these the problem is I can't quite eating them til they are gone Thanks Cheryl have a great week
A tip from the USA. I always add a splash of vanilla extract so they aren't quite so plain. You can also stir in some chopped Oreo cookies. Very good!
Your accent is the best!! 😂 You’ve got a new Australian subscriber ❤

Like the version with peanut butter.
I love your recipes! You've taught me how to make tiffins, and now this!
I did not know Scottish people loved this classic Canadian treat!
They look nice Cheryl, not too sweet as I don't have a sweet tooth. Defo gonna be giving these a go.

a retro flashback lol and way better and cheaper than the single ones ibn the packets
Will make some for our next McMillan tea party, Cheryl. Many thanks and take care 😃 x
I like to also add a small amount of vanilla extract to the marshmallow as it’s melting for a little more flavor-just a teaspoon.

Bet it would be great with cocopops as well.
I have also seen them with Fruity Pebbles. Kids love them, adults not so much.
You can add cocoa powder for a chocolate version too.
Do you store them in the fridge :))
No!! Sorry, no, they turn into hardtack that way. A covered container on the counter is fine. They should last several days that way.

They have a variation popular in New Zealand, I think, that uses honey. I think they call them Rice Bubble Slices. Might be a nice change. :)
If you want to use you hands to press the mixture into your pan, lightly dampen your hands with water. Or just spoon big globs out like my mom use to.
The main question is who gets to lick the spoon!! Tried making tablet?
