this is the suspension setup video I have been waiting for. so many people just chuck out good setting or how to set sag or rebound but always in the garage. but no one ever shows a good method of testing and adjusting your suspension on the trail to get it right for the rider. amazing thanks, guys. loving the vids as always :D

Hey can you guys do these Jordi setup vids with Loris? His sound effects and Frenglish make for descriptive and useful info...hahahaha But in all seriousness, it'd be cool to have someone to articulate the change in ride feel (something beyond, "it's good", "it was better before") over sections of trail or types of obstacles after adjustments. Thanks!

Pretty much the same method when adjusting dirt bike suspension. Except that if we were having issues getting a good baseline, we would remove the bike's side panels and videotape a troubling section, then rewatch it in slo-mo. This would help us see how the wheels were reacting to the terrain and that would help determine if and what internal adjustments might be needed. Just wondering if anyone else has tried videotaping a section?
This is great ! I set up my bike today over a set course lap. It made a huge difference and definitely helped me better understand the feeling and effects of Rebound Damping and High and low speed Compression damping. My only suggestion would be to start with Rebound damping - because if it's not right - it's really hard to set anything else up. I also think rebound damping is easier to "feel" for a novice and then it doesn't get in the way of compression damping if you get it right. Thanks again - I am Dialed !!
Every time I watch one of your videos I end up ''puzzling'' and I end up usually where I started, but today after seeing how many spacers have you used in shock (Connor is same weight as me) I tried even bigger in my DPX2 0.86 and hell yeah!!! I struggled with fork it was either too harsh on trail or too soft in bigger compressions, couldn't get it quite right. Also rear shock seemed to be bottoming bit more than fork. I guess more support on back brings more weight on fork, so none of them work ''overtime'', I guess...Now bike feels balanced, I dont know why I didnt put bigger spacer there earlier..oh well..Thanks guys :-D love it keep 'em coming
bracketing, such a simple method of finding improvements and its not just applicable to suspension but most things that have some form of adjustments, of the top of my head ive done the same in gaming and screen colour calibrations
As many have said , these videos are awesome, particularly the content around set up. It would seem that mountain bike suspension set up is prime to have an app created to provide base settings and to record clicks and pressures, with the potential to add functionality like feel, EG if shock feels harsh on steep drops, add high speed compression. This would allow you to have your own Jordi on the trail with you. Is there any reason why Fox doesn't hasn't developed an app already?
Clearly people are into getting their suspension DIALED, we are working on more of these types of videos for you guys, stay tuned and be sure to subscribe! 👊
I feel its probably just personal preferrance but I like to start with everything wide open and close as I progress in tuning. Also running the Smashpot in my Zeb for ultra sensitivity, traction and confidence. I want as much absorption and as little front wheel deflection as possible for my region and I found the only way for that to be possible is to run coils in my forks. I kind of know based on which trail I ride how much low speed or high speed to add and even HBO. None the less I geek out and love finding ways to improve my set up. Its apparent when you see me ride cuz the bike just eats and stays so composed. And I'm referring to a 60lb Turbo Levo. 170/ 160 with the Cascade Link and coil rear shock as well.
Jordy, can I expect suspension to feel the same at my preferred settings every time? Will this change with the life of the shocks? And how does basic maintenance effect how my shock at preferred seatings will feel! Love this channel and the sharing of your knowledge! Episode 3 should be with Loris!!
Not sure if you are familiar with the vorsprung tuesday tune videos, but according to Steve's dyno testing, the effects of LSR and HSR on the X2 shock are pretty much the same. He says to close the HSR and work with LSR only, then if you reach full open on LSR and need more adjustment, start opening the HSR. Can you confirm/deny this, and explain?
Stephen Daly Do you really need an explanation? You watched the Vorsprung video and saw that they explain it quite extensively.. You know with graphs from the dyno and everything..
Well I see Jordi making suggestion to riders to adjust both hi/lo speed rebound independently, yet if they function the same as explained from vorsprung, why is he not saying the same thing as Steve? Does fox disagree with this method? Just looking for clarification on the real world use of these adjusters. Not sure why you're trying to shut down a legitimate question before the pros can answer it
I personally prefer to have slower hsr and fast lsr so the bike can track the ground well without bucking on jumps. Might as well get a simpler shock if you dont want to set these independently..
@@sdaly88 I don't think you're going to get a response from Fox on other people's/companies tuning methods or theories. They are going to recommend what was shown in the video. If you want to try the other method do so. Use the same sections of trai, back to back, on the same day, bracketing and recording your results. See if it works better for you, if doesn't, return to the original method and settings.
Very interesting question actually! But after watching many videos about the subject I've realised that there are different philosophy about suspension setup. That said you will notice some common points! Anyway testing, bracketing and go back testing etc...
I'm really enjoying the series! If I followed along correctly, starting in the middle of the usable hsc/lsc range would put you at 8 and 6 respectively. He went three out on hsc (11) and 2 out on lsc (8). Same 3 click spread between the two but a bit more closed than 12 and 15! Which would make sense during warmer/hot weather 🤘
great video guys! I was wondering about the finer aspects of suspension tuning when I clicked on this...perfect! One question: Why is Jordi wearing his helmet throughout the whole vid??? Struck me as funny...:)
Do you have a video explaining in what scenario you would change hsc, lsc, hsr and lsr. For instance braking bumps feeling harsh on the arms, you would adjust your ...........
And when will Fox swap that air sleeve guide ring made of bronze/teflon to something that doesn't scratch the kashima coating 7:37? I made my own, that doesn't scratch and makes the shock more coil like, but can't say the material, maybe if you hire me... (But I believe in you if you tell me that it's difficult to be mass produced, as the tolerances have to be really tight. In my case (+/-0.005mm))
Be interested to know what the rider felt with the given changes e.g. what did it do when hitting roots, was it more playful, did it impact turn in etc.
Does Fox use data acquisition? Maybe use the tech in the live value system to create data acquisition specific shock to 'dial' the settings, then flip back to your race shock. The data seems to have really helped the specialised team this year.
Generally speaking, what setting changes would you recommend if your front end is sliding more than your rear and/or you want your rear end to slide more?
Jordy I'm trying to work out how to get the rebound dialed in with regard to air spring pressure. I'm 6 clicks on my Fox Rhythm 34 Fork. 1 volume spacer. 90 PSI rendering about 24% sag. I'm using about 80 to 85% of for travel on a variety of trails with some small 1-3' drops. I'm going to let out 2.5 to 3 lbs of air on the fork and wondering if I would need to adjust the rebound, considering there will be slightly more travel with a slightly softer 'spring'
In general: with less air pressure you need more rebound. 2-3 psi from 90 is not much, so you might only change it by one click if you were happy with the rebound at 90 psi
Nice video! Can you explain why you start from lsc first and the rebound is a last? Should it be opposite? And in case if I don’t have volume spacers is it correct to just pump more air? I understand it will mess the sag but I believe it will be firmly and with volume spacers fork remains soft but with less bottom effect? Thank you.
Any word on how those adjustments relate to each other? I’m curious whether I should use a spacer when bottoming out too often on big hits or up the hsc a bit. Guessing the spacer would result in a more poppy bike whereas the heavier damping would deaden the bike and would also affect the entire stroke.
Great series, enjoyed every video so far! I have a question in regards to LSC and air pressure. My bike feels nicely set up. However there are a very few instances when I find that when I push into an obstacle, in order to pop off, the fork does not give me as much support as I want, it feels like it is a little soft like the fork is going under the bike a little. Same in some fast rough sections. In a situation like this would you recommend increasing air pressure a little, adding air and reducing LSC (so the fork does not become too rough), adding a spacer or something completely different?
imo, the easiest way to teach anyone to dial their suspension would be explaining what is actually happening when you open or close the adjuster knobs and how the bike behaves/changes behavior in consequence of the adjustment. if you know what will happen when you close the damper you will know whether you want it opened or closed.
We plan on shooting a "Part 3" here in Lenzerheide where Jordi explains each individual adjustment in detail. Stay tuned and make sure to subscribe so you don't miss anything! 👊
Jordi, could you explain why fox fork volume spacers and vorsrung's luftkappe have different performance characteristics? When both are changing the difference in the air chambers. Also, with the 36 grip 2, when it first came out fox only released it in 160mm travel, now low travel options are available, correct? I was told grip2 needed 160mm to work properly? So this is false ? Thanks for all your teams hard work.
i am no expert, but from what i do know the luftkappe does mess with positive air chamber by design as its like adding 1 token in, but the big difference in the characteristic change is that luftkappe also alters the negative air chamber size which is something regular volume spacers do not do.
🇺🇲Ok, Guys just saw your Vid, added to positive and it leveled out too 200psi, I'm usually 195psi Fox Float RSV 2X . . Custom tune 10 ? Pivot I'll take it for a spin tomorrow AM👍,lol it feels better balanced !🇺🇲
you said in the video that HSC is set to 15 clicks from close (36). How does this compare to the information in the company's configuration guide that the HSC scope is only 8 clicks away from closing? because now I'm confused...
I've got a fox 36 factory 160....ive had problems with it feeling like it is vibrating madly over smooth fast terrain...to the point I have to slow down.No one seems to be able to work out the problem...Im 200 pounds and ride hard and aggressive...no matter what pressure or compression I use it's still the same...this this the second bike the fork has been on with the same results...services are up to date.....HHHEELLPP...lol
Question: If I add more Vol Spacer to the fork at the same pressure will the fork handle better at breaking bumps? I assume that it is more sensitive at the beginning stroke and more harsh to the end because of progressivity. I would like to divide this question into - braking - no braking What I want at my fox 40 is better handling at breaking bumps. The problem I see is. Usually at breaking bumps (not always - different skill levels and so different breaking points) you have to break, so you re deep into travel... - more progressivity, harsher at breaking bumps... - less progressivity, better at breaking bumps... Is there I possible right answer? Thanks in advance
It might actually make it worse to add volume spacers. How's your sag? You might need to bump up the pressure a bit and reduce the HSC if you're getting beat up over the braking bumps. I've settled on less spacers & less HSC while adding pressure and it has increased the sensitivity over high speed chatter. If you ride too deep in the suspension travel it will feel very harsh.
Guys can you describe what you mean when you say from open or from closed? Assuming open is when you turned the dial in the minus direction and adding more compression is towards the plus?
Do I need a special adapter to pump up a fox shock and a rear or are they both the same as rock shock? I recently upgraded mine and need to order one now aha.
Hey Jordi, if you are forced to service those shocks against your will, blink three times in next episode!

Generally speaking, what setting changes would you recommend if your front end is sliding more than your rear and/or you want your rear end to slide more?
Front-rear lsc balance I’d say, provided the tyre and handlebar set up aren’t to blame..
Get a bald rear tire.
However there are a very few instances when I find that when I push into an obstacle, in order to pop off, the fork does not give me as much support as I want, it feels like it is a little soft like the fork is going under the bike a little. Same in some fast rough sections.

Ps your videos are always an pleasure to watch 🤟👍😎
Yes- counting clicks is always from closed (compression & rebound)

Also, with the 36 grip 2, when it first came out fox only released it in 160mm travel, now low travel options are available, correct? I was told grip2 needed 160mm to work properly? So this is false ?
Thanks for all your teams hard work.
i am no expert, but from what i do know the luftkappe does mess with positive air chamber by design as its like adding 1 token in, but the big difference in the characteristic change is that luftkappe also alters the negative air chamber size which is something regular volume spacers do not do.
Nice Video! Maybe it overheard it, but do i set the SAG with all Diales in the Middle or fully openend or closed?
open LSC and set sag with the airpressure..
Great video, would you mind including MRP Ramp Control in your fork setting? Thanks!
Es kann nur einen geben!
When setting the sag does one fully open the compression and rebound before setting the sag?
Also I know roughly about the lsc and hsc but what ones are best to have what. Is it better to have more clicks or less
you said in the video that HSC is set to 15 clicks from close (36). How does this compare to the information in the company's configuration guide that the HSC scope is only 8 clicks away from closing? because now I'm confused...
Anybody know what's jordi's helmet? Looks great
Q: Do you always put the cap back on the rebound knob when you're bracketing? Asking for a friend. :D
Video for loris to watch!
the one dislike rides on rockshox
I've got a fox 36 factory 160....ive had problems with it feeling like it is vibrating madly over smooth fast terrain...to the point I have to slow down.No one seems to be able to work out the problem...Im 200 pounds and ride hard and aggressive...no matter what pressure or compression I use it's still the same...this this the second bike the fork has been on with the same results...services are up to date.....HHHEELLPP...lol
Question:
If I add more Vol Spacer to the fork at the same pressure will the fork handle better at breaking bumps? I assume that it is more sensitive at the beginning stroke and more harsh to the end because of progressivity.
I would like to divide this question into
- braking
- no braking
What I want at my fox 40 is better handling at breaking bumps.
Thanks. Very great answer! Will test it
Guys can you describe what you mean when you say from open or from closed? Assuming open is when you turned the dial in the minus direction and adding more compression is towards the plus?
I want to know which employee at rockshox thumbed the episode down...
does that negative and positive air chamber thing apply to all shocks? is Jordi cycling through the travel as he adds air? kinda confused by this part
Hey Jason, what about Ozark season 5? 😅
Do I need a special adapter to pump up a fox shock and a rear or are they both the same as rock shock? I recently upgraded mine and need to order one now aha.
5 clicks rebound from closed to open?
that's hella slow! is this really correct?
I consider "open" as "no damping at all"
Do you guys change shim stacks? It’s common in motocross but I haven’t seen it in mtb’s?
