Hi! I am from Zamboanga City, a kid that grew up speaking Chavacano and I believe Chavacano will never be forgotten although not studied. Big percent of the population of Zamboanga City can speak chavacano fluently and even though they can't speak fluently but still they understand it.

  • @aabkamlian13

I'm a Tausug but I know how to speak Chavacano. Zamboangenyo Chavacano to be specific.. I was born at Jolo but I started schooling at Zamboanga. The difference between Cavite and Zamboanga, when the chavacano dialect is concern, is that Zamboanga City really uses Chavacano every day. When you go to pueblo(Town proper), almost all can speak chavacano fluently and even the city officials would highly encourage all the people of zamboanga to speak chavacano. That's maybe why the chavacano in cavite is slowly dying out, which I think is a loss. Being a person who can understand and speak chavacano, I' am quite proud of it and I have grown to it. And I' am a proud that I can speak a language that some of the zamboangenyos speak in the old days.

@@vinzell725 because in year 1635, during the building of the Spanish fortress in Zamboanga, the military authorities decided to import labour from Luzon and the Visayas. Thus, the construction workforce eventually consisted of Spanish, MEXICAN and PERUVIAN soldiers, masons from Cavite (who comprised the majority), sacadas from Cebu and Iloilo, and those from the various local tribes of Zamboanga like the Samals and Subanons.

'Tis sad that few people in Cavite these days speak the language. My maternal relatives speak Chavacano, and I do make an effort to learn the language more or less at my own pace. The situation with Chavacano also reminds me of the controversy with Irish usage being put by the wayside in favour of English in Ireland. Some felt this resulted in a loss of cultural identity, and it is the same thing with Chavacano.

Jillyn Ashworth Andalusian Spanish is kinda Portuguese I guess? if I'm correct? cause in Visayas we do have Portuguese words currently in use. and theoretically if the Philippines would speak Spanish there could be a new stereotype or signature accent in the Spanish world of "ll" which is pronounced as "y" and "sh" but in the Philippines it would be "ly" and "y" and "s" "c" would sound like "s" and "z" "s" for "z" and "v" "b" for "v" and "p" "f" for "f"
