    277fury is designed for short barrel use. That’s why the pressure is so high, so the army can accelerate that bullet to full rifle speed with just 13inches of barrel.

    277 fury from a 14.5 inch barrel (ie the barrel designed for the NGSW/XM7/Spear) is identical in velocity to 270 Win from a 24 inch barrel.
    So if you prefer a shorter barrel in a AR type platform for your hunting rifle, then I guess 277 fury might be your huckleberry. But if you’re good with a few more inches of barrel length, then there’s no reason to get 277 fury over regular vanilla 270 Win.

    8.5 lbs for a Magnum cartridge is fine weight for the rifle. My 300 WSM in the Savage M110 Long Range Hunter and really is well balanced and doesn’t recoil much especially with a muzzle brake. Cut weight elsewhere like Brady Miller does and have the best most accurate and consistent weapon that you can get.

  • @JimmyJusa
    @JimmyJusa Місяць тому +1

    The box listed velocity for the venari is a 130gr going 2700 fps, the fmj is a 135 going 3000. I think that spread is insane for essentially the same weight projectile. The lower velocity is likely standard pressure, but that makes reloading days very difficult if you have two pressures or if the fmj is too high of a pressure for a gun, perhaps something rebarreled.

    The 277 Sig Fury aka 6.8 x 51 leaves me curious, will it become widely available being a military cartridge or will it become the 223 vs 5.56 x 45? you can shoot this one in that one, but not that one in this one, don't need a clone of a complex question. Then what about reloading the bi-metal cases, will that be acceptable or taboo, what about pressures? I think most bolt actions made for the current crop of fire breathers are capable of handling the increased pressure provided the bi-metal case is used, but straight brass is another story. The cartridge is intriguing, but is the juice going to be worth the squeeze? Being a 270 Fanboy, I shoot a Ruger No.1, 26" barrel and get 3200 fps with a 130 grain bullet, I am intimately familiar with the caliber and what it can do.

    It's my understanding that the 277 Sig was developed for the military to replace both the 5.56 and the 308 and still be utilized in an AR platform with a 16'-18' barrel. It clearly does that. For hunting applications it really doesn't offer much over what is available now unless you desire the latest most technologically advanced AR system. The Sig Cross at 8.5 lbs is probably a very good platform for the 7 and 300 PRC's. Im sure it provides the stability desired for these extended range heavy hitting cartridges. As for me I think its just too much all around to be considered a go to every day "backcountry" rifle for hunting. I still feel that most game is taken within 500 yds (its called hunting) and normal traditional cartriges and rifles provide a more sensible option. Tell me a 6.6 lb Tikka T3x in 7mm Rem Mag or 300 Win with 3 in a mag isnt enough. Heck even 30/06 and 270 will work just fine. Wringing out the most on the target courses is a different story. As for the 277 Fury. Extreme pressure means diminished service life. Most of the rounds for sale in 277 Fury aren't even the high pressure rounds, they're loaded to normal pressures and need normal barrel lengths to acheive normal velocities. So I guess Sig basically reinvented the 284 Win.

    Why did you not compare the Weatherby 270 Mag in your .277 Acubond compare. I realize it is an older cartridge but still active.

  • @beenstork
    @beenstork Місяць тому

    9:54.... your numbers are wrong. Its showing the drop for the .277 at 400 yards being more than the .270 win but the .227 fury is faster at the muzzle by (as you mentioned) almost 200fps and then the 600 yard drop flip flops. There is no way that both those numbers are correct unless its defying this laws of physics

    At 3m50 you briefly show what appears to be an MDT chassis with what looks like maybe a removable rear stock button?? (button just up-left of the MDT logo on the grip) What chassis is that? It looks quite intriguing...

      Ah, I think I found it, it's the MDT HNT26 by the looks of it. Unfortunately way out of my price league. Wish the MDT Oryx had that feature!

    Do not really see the need for the277fury. To me.
    It's way under powered for what it's supposed to be. Now with that cartridge could push3400 Feet a second. Now we would be talking about real innovation.

      It’s pushing a 135 grain projectile at 3000…out of a 16 inch barrel. That’s insane man. Just think what kind of velocities a hand load with the hybrid case out of a 26” barrel could achieve

  • @tonygreve5504

    My furry with the hybrid case get 3040fps avg out of a 16.5" barrel 150gr facrir6 rounds man there's alot to cover on this
