Your verbal skills are seriously impressive. You, sir, are a natural born teacher. The way you said that the chord progression is an abstract structure which sits behind the music... Dude. Goosebumps. This level of abstract thinking and verbalization of such is sadly exceedingly rare in teachers of any sort.
Honestly I’m starting to realize now, thankfully under 2 years into this, that I need to just ask my talented music friends to start sending me recordings and mix that shit together. There’s a lot of cool stuff with production I could accomplish if I had the instrumental skill, or the instruments in general. Sometimes we gotta think outside the box 😅 wish you and everybody luck on this wild rode
The Face the Sun track is using the same chord progression as Richard Durand's "Into Something" and I love it. Had it on repeat for the past 12 hours, good stuff.
Love the the algorithm. All Hail the algorithm.. (that's gonna get turned into a text to wavetable later in vital and then I'll throw chord progressions at it). Thanks Oscar.
great info, already loved the sine only chord progression, had a loungy feel. And the last one could've been a rap a la The Streets progression, awesome.
Excellent video again, thank you. I'm an eternal beginner and your videos are so inspiring. Your explanations are clear and you share a nice energy. Keep going! I'll wait for the next chapter on chord progresson 😎
Thanks Oscar! I bought a Roland J-6 chord synthesizer to help me to create chord progressions and I can live record these in my Elektron sequencers via midi. Totally worth the money in my case. Also great for dub techno.
I remember you once did a very nice video about chord progressions with midi packs, but it magically disappeared from the channel, although it was really useful.. So, I'm really thankful to you Oscar, that you're refreshing our memories and explaining this again. Great lesson as usual, thanks a lot.. With all the love from Nuremberg 🇩🇪 👋🏼
I think this snippet was from that video. Also, I remember that "shopping for emotions" phrase, so I think Oscar split the video and will reupload it in several more short parts.
Thats a good refresh of what u explained ty And its not a comment and a thumb up for the algorhythm... but cause i liked it Keep that vibe...btw the end crédits music is really cool
I am just starting with music production and a big problem is being so overwhelmed with everything. You have to learn the DAW, chords, melodies, your style of music and so an and so on... watching all these youtube videos kinda makes it worse than better. Sorry, just had to vent that out, because i am just a newbie. You are doing a great job with your videos
Greetings, I can say that your videos give very important tips to people who love this job, it helps a lot, thank you for that. I find it difficult to create FULL CHORD progressions - bassline, especially for projects such as Re-edit - Remix, so that our friends who do not have a musical education like me can benefit, I can't solve the math. Lack of basic musical knowledge (like NOTE INFORMATION) reduces motivation in general, what would your suggestions be? It seems like it's easier to create a new - original track, Kind regards
I don't think sine waves are the best timbre for testing chord progressions. You need harmonics to get the full emotional effect. Sawtooth waves are possibly overdoing it, but sawtooths filtered with a gentle lowpass work well. In my opinion, a major chord played with lowpassed sawtooths sounds much happier than the same chord played with sine waves, and it's still simple enough to avoid distracting you with questions of sound design.
Huh, unlike Hobo, you didn't mess up the DnB part. Thumbs up for that. Also noted: weird chords work better with DnB (and in fact Techno, because let's face it, there wouldn't be Technoid otherwise)
for sure. was not a big fan of that house track w/ weird chords, but as soon as i head them with sines i just imagined a nice, crunchy amen break under them

What a fantastic explanation. I've seen countless videos on this topic and this one is the best.
I've been doing music for a long time, but I know I will still learn something from any Underdog episode.
It’s awesome to watch someone who loves what they do and is passionate about sharing their knowledge. Thanks as always for the lesson Oscar!

Great video, great examples, clear explanation, wonderful.
Bro thank you. I’ve been struggling to understand chord progression and how it applies to music. But this really helps.
That's what I need to improve my production skills, more of this please

I've just watched that video in his course (Foundation of Electronic Music). I think he moved it from YT to the course.
Inspiring as usual. Thanks Oscar.

great stuff
So create the chord progression, then structure the bassline, melody, and drums to match/compliment, the progression!.🤔⛳️
That outro 🔥
These videos are awesome dude
Hey Oscar, can you do a video about key changes, specially in breakdowns/bridges before drops, to create a particular emotion and how it can be used?
Nice vid dude

it's very overwhelming at first but def stick with it! it's not a race, go at ya own pace
This was really helpful for me, I thought chord progressions were just something you'd put on a background pad and ignore otherwise
Awesome
Cool
Nice jacket indeed!
Also great video as usual 😄
thanks as always big O
Leaving a comment to show you some love :D
i love essentials :) !!!

Imagine being Oscar's son :^)
Time travel can be so confusing...
Hello algorithm!
The progressions are harder to hear in the house examples
🚣♀🚣♀🚣♀🌞
