- 1987 was a year for terrible films (Leonard Part 6, anyone?) and tremendous Toys. Along with Dino-Riders, "Battle Beats" were the most epic figures to enter my 6-year old world. Long before I learned the nuance of "Paper, Rock, Scissors" I knew that Wood beats Water, water beats Fire, and Fire Beats Wood. Collect all 84! I Nearly did.
Recorded in Fall 1987 off USA Cartoon Express

Makes me glad I was born on the tail end of Generation X. 80s toys were so cool, and I got to experience it all.
Dino Riders,Battle beasts,Mask,Ghost busters,Thunder Cats, and He-Man. Growing up in the 80's was awesome. If i could i wouldn't mind going back in time and staying there forever hehehehe.
True that all the best toys were made in that era
I agree wth u on tht! I'd stay in The 80s 4ever!!! 1 good thing is G.i. Joe & Battle Beasts made it to The Transformers cartoon!
Who could forget “Inhumanoids” =O They had there cartoon for a short time until parents started complaining it was freaking out their kids and they pulled it =*(
а у русских это все появилось только в серединге 90х, и то не оригинальное
Peak civilization
"Rock!"
"Paper! Paper cover Rock! Paaaaaper!"
"Scissors! Scissors cut up Paper! Sciiiiiiisors!"
"Rock! Rock crushes Scissors!"
*_ROOOOOOOOOOCK!!_*
I always loved that mini guys, since the first time, back in 1987!
I collect them and got above 70 or more.

Before Pokemon, we had Battle Beasts. Same weaknesses and everything, except Grass-types were known as Wood-types.
I see you've found the connect to Pokémon. It took me a while to realize it.
Say do you think Takara and Hasbro indirectly inspire the creation of Pokémon via their Battle Beast/Beastformers line?
Specifically the Rock, Paper, Scissors concept of Fire, Water and Wood. I mean those are pretty much the same main elements used for Pokémon's three main starter Pokémons that we see in the beginning of each of the Pokémon games and generations. Just switch the wood to grass and you can see the connection.
@@shawnwarrynn8609 I was wondering this too. You'd have to see if Game Freak had any employee overlap with Takara in the late 80's to early 90's. If so, it'd probably be a safe assumption Pokemon was just an updated version of the Battle Beasts property. Each box even said: "Capture them all!"
@@shawnwarrynn8609or wood could be referred to as a “plant” type
I was looking for the variation of the commercial that says, "Collect every one of these incredible creatures" and this one has that segment.
Deserves an updated line and new cartoon.
There is one but it is abysmal. No cartoon that I'm aware of
I was a teenager when these came out, and I recognized rock-paper-scissors right away.
I understand that the Battle Beast were the somewhat of the precursor to the Beast Era/Beast Wars transformers, but I can't help but draw a connection between Battle Beast and Pokémon as well.

OMG!!! LOL i was just thinking of this commercial yesterday, cause my dad has old VHS recordings of my Teddy Ruxpin cartoons with this commercial. And so i looked right now for the hell of it, and it's awesome to see that i'm not the only one who enjoyed these toys growing up. Thanks for posting, major childhood flashback haha. Now i wanna see the other commercials that were on those tapes
This reminds me of Pokemon a little bit because you have your primary types of starters in the form of fire, water, and grass 🔥💧🍃
I had so many of these
One of my favorite toy commercials growing up. Wow!
I wish these would come back. I liked these little fellows.
Innocent times when a kid could be a kid.
I came for the Battle Beasts, then had my pleasure sensor permanently activated with that .2 seconds of "Get Smart" at the end.
I had so many back in the days 😩
“…collect all 84.” [ silence ]
collect all 84
In theory Fire will beat every thing if its hot enough
Unpopular opinion: for Hasbro in the 80's, I find Battle Beasts more interesting than Transformers G1 since I was always more of a Beast Wars person.
I had just about all of these. they battled for fun
Wow brings me back!!!! I had quite a few of these toys as a kid I use to trade and collect. Great upload Thanks...
I have about 6 of these. 5 without weapons and one sealed in its box.
Found a few of these in my guitar case. Now my kid plays with them ha. Would be cool but he keeps bogarting my gorilla!
Cool
That's some great animation tho.
They were in a cartoon.
They were part of the Japanese Transformers series (as Beastformers).
Toei Animation most likely or some other Japanese studio which remains uncredited.
They were only present in one episode of Transformers: The Headmasters in 1987.
I loved these as a kid but remember how easily their arms would break off. A very cruel way to get back at other kids if you were jealous of their collection.
Saw a box of these in a collectible thrift store and nearly fell over remembering back to childhood so I bought them!!! Now to sell them off 😈 muahaha
woooooooood! faaaire! faaaire beats woooooood!
faaaaaire! woh-taaahhh!! woh-tah put out faaaire!
woh-taaahhh! wooooood! wood beats woh-taaaahhh!
Oh man, those voices are worse than I remember, but I could never forget this commercial. I love it!
Beastformers!
I used to have tons of these things... I dont remember them looking so corny lol
Back then theme songs were so cool, u had 2 sing a long.
loved these as a kid, these and army ants. ha
wow this guy is cutting down lots of trees
How the heck does wood beat water?
Aphoresis Wood floats on water. It dams water. I guess that's the thinking.
+Aphoresis Wood dams water.
+Aphoresis Because wood floats on water. At least that's what I remember from when I was a kid. It's funny, I've encountered this question a couple of times before. But the "what beats what" dynamic is essentially the same as with Pokemon starters and no one questions that. The only difference is instead of "wood", the element is called "grass".
Also, plants grow when watered. Wood comes from trees. Trees are plants.
Water is absorbed by wood.
Wood "beats" water LOL
It says collect all 84 on this commercial but there's 76 Battle Beasts in total.
Come on Hasbro! Why can't get a reboot?!?! This is ur Lprd of the Rings killer right here! Haha
I had the shark. It always bothered me that the action figure was a different color from the cartoon in the commercial.
You had the blue shark, right? However, the guy in the commercial is actually a different one, he was a white "Killer Carp" with purple armor. I had both.
im here because of lushone ahahah
What about air?
Wata wata put OUT fire
No shit? Collect all 84? Really? I never knew how many there were. All I knew is that it would be a real bitch to get 'em all once I saw how rare the Wood allegiance was.
Between me and my friends we had about 20 of 'em, 3 of which were wood. And that was after we bought more than a few packs. It was nothing but Water kickin' Fire's ass all up and down the hallways.
Man, they were cool 'til you unpacked 'em and saw that your awesome lizard guy, despite carrying a fantastic battleaxe from hell, would do zero to the flailing, fairy pony who carried a toothpick.
I still wanted them all. lol
Water was the rarest one in my collection. I think I only found one water for every 4-5 wood or fire.
These were Pokemon before Pokemon was a thing.
The civilization before they evolved into Z-bots
the toys sucked but the commercial was the sh*t
