I could almost cry, the memories these bring.
I am crying. It's unstoppable! Joy!
Independent Contractor I hear you
I had so many of these. I traded them in 1986 for New Universe comics. Talk about crying!
Paying 2.50 per figure. Parents telling you it’s too much to pay. Wish I can go back in time.
Hell yeah man. I remember wanting the General so bad for Christmas but my parents got me the HQ instead and I was so stoked. Amazing video
Seeing this after 30 years warms my heart up.
This brings back so many memories. I wish i could go back in time and relive my childhood again. That was a happy and simple time of my life. Memories!!!!
These were the greatest toys ever made. I used to beg my parents to get them for me. Unfortunately due to our economic status only a small few were ever bought. None the less the best time I ever had as a child was playing with my GIJoes.
Bayas M yea I didn't know to many kids, myself included who had the bigger toys like the aircraft carrier. I may have known 1 rich kid who had that can't recall for sure.
Same here. I’ve been on eBay buying all the ones my parents couldn’t afford when I was a child.
These and Toy Biz Xmen.
Have you gotten thd tomahawk
..m.a.s.k ..lego ..masters of the universe and transformers were way better !!
I am so glad I was able to enjoy this time period. I was born in 1976, and got to enjoy the 80s as a kid. I miss it sometimes because of GI Joe, He-Man, and all the other great toys.
Those were the days when our imagination went wild , love those commercials tkz for sharing
scarman470 yep as corny as they maybe nowadays, back then they seemed so cool lol
That was basically my entire childhood right there. Thanks for compiling these.
My brother and I had green Army Men too. Our first tactical sandbox (A literal Sandbox) system was loosely based on Battleship. We cut a box in half for a screen, then set up fortifications. Then, we'd remove the boxes, and take turns shooting with a Line-of-Sight system. Line up behind the soldier's head, if he can see it, he can shoot it. That's how we're able to cancel out "Pew!" "You Missed!"
It wasn't our entire childhoods. Honestly, we're both lucky to make it out without one of us in an eyepatch. We also had lawn-darts, and played "Double-Dragon!" In Austin, (Congress Park Apartments) the playground was literally I beams, embedded in concrete, and railroad ties bolted on with all-thread. They didn't even put down astroturf, if you fell off (Or were pushed) you fell straight down onto concrete, and we had terpene tar all over our clothes from the railroad ties.
Transformers and GI JOE dominated the 80’s with their amazing toys.
He-man and Turtles were also big for me plus some others
Man, I remember all the imaginary Gi-joe wars I use to have lol..
Playing for hours in my friends basement.
I honestly gotta say when it comes to playability, realism and quality of product...this GI Joe line hit it out of the park...That MOBAT tank would run over just about anything, and the customization and scenes you could stage just out performed Star Wars..
+StoneCold75 Yea they were cool toys, Hasbro did it perfectly.
+8thManDVD.com Cartoon Channel The G.I.Joe aircraft carrier-
When you absolutely, positively, HAVE to take up the entire floorspace of your playroom! LOL.
Hell yeah! I ran campaigns in my bedroom with my MOBAT! It really could run over almost anything!
The greatest toyline of all time.
Masters of the Universe? G.I.Joe was awesome, but let's get realistic!
This is Exelent, but Star Wars is the best
Come on guy that a question of taste.... for me it was gi joe and transformers
Answer is Mobile Suit Gundam, dude.
@@MrJon76 i miss aswell master of the universe´s toys .
precious memories on Christmas opening the box and its gi-joe action figures
Nostalgia. Man...i remember having all kinds of GI joe stuff
Literally the reason I enlisted. I was sucked into these toys like you wouldn't believe.
He'll fight for freedom
Wherever there's trouble
GI Joe is there
GI Joe A real American hero
GI Joe is there.
From GI Joe to Transformers Hasbro has it all !!!
Ahh....the good ole days.
lol the kids in the commercial all went on witness relocation.
Probably because of cobra
lol
Priceless.
Lol.
Lol
I'm getting goosebumps watching this. I had Mutt & Junkyard. Years later, I grew up, enlisted, joined the military and really became a K9 handler. Weird where life takes us. :D
Cool.
“Knowing is half the battle.”
-G.I.Joe
That is my favorite quote
Gi joes were awesome. I'd build a fortress out of pillows and blankets and make outposts for my joes.
In the 80's, all kids' faces were blurry. Mine didn't come into focus until '92. Sort of a late bloomer.
LOL! :)
Hahaha
Just like before 1960 when the entire world existed in black and white.
Roflmao😂
Why ARE they blurred out?
Memories especially on birthdays and Christmas’s!!!
I never lived in the 80s, but these are probably in the top 10 toys EVER. They had great articulation, well made accessories, amazing comics and cartoon, file cards for every character, and so many vehicles and playsets that had awesome features. Just like Transformers, they also have had some pretty great media in all forms. I’d really recommend G.I. Joe Resolute, one of the best animated action movies I’ve seen in a while. I was born in 2006, so obviously I never grew up with them, but it’s just obvious that these are great. I’d also recommend the UA-cam channel “Michael Mercy,” he has some pretty great videos on this stuff.
80's i love G.I.Joe reminds me of the time i served were actually used G.I.Joe code names. Whoever made G.I.Joe thank you for making my childhood worth it lol 💪
Being a kid from the 80s I'm glad I grew out of that whole blurry face..
Man these were the days.
I love the early jingles themed to the particular characters!
Oh come on! Storm Shadow would destroy Duke in hand to hand combat!
Man, it sure does bring back lots of memories. My best friend and I still collect them. Yo Joe!
When I was a kid anything that had the gi joe name I bought it.
Is it bad that seeing these old toy commercials makes me want to hunt these figures and vehicles down now?
Only for your wallet
If they did something to your or a loved one, no. They should be hunted down.
Get them.
Join the crowd
BLM would.
Lol.
Yo Joe!
Buying my childhood on Ebay. No regrets.
Hasbro in the 80s was a powerhouse in my book.
Awww man.....wish it still on the market,
Love it. I set my Betamax every morning before school so I could record the after school episode. 👍🏻
The best time to be a kid. The best cartoons. The best toys. Some of the best video games. Just the best of everything. The last great, golden era for kids
How true.
The 1980’s was the golden age of toys for sure
Whenever there's trouble, GI Joe is there... That catchy phrase seem stuck in my mind every I saw this ad.
I saved my collection from the 1980s and sold it 3 years ago. Including the Flagg. Made a freaking mint. But I would give it all back to be back in this simpler time when Americans were allowed to be proud.
I had all of them until 88 and then collected sporadically until I turned 13 in 1990. I miss those days of building bases in the dirt and playing with my Joe's. The 80s were amazing!
Love This!!! Takes me right back to back in the day when I was little!! So much fun!!Let's go back in time with a time machine to back then and I'm gonna stay there!! Lol 80's and 90's FOREVER!!
My favorite pieces of plastic in all the world! Made for a great childhood.
I really wish I lived during this time instead of now...
Ethan Shelley Those times were limited. Before the internet you were stuck with what local toy store had, at least now you can buy just about anything or at least find info about it. You're not missing anything trust me.
Yeah I guess but I bet more kids from the 8th and 90s got more outta childhood
Ethan Shelley
As someone who grew up during the '80s and early '90s, I can say that you are correct, Ethan.
I have to disagree with the comment that "You're not missing anything." Sure, technology advanced remarkably in a short period of time (just consider how much changed with computers/Internet alone between the mid-'90s and the early 2000s!); and broadband Internet has unquestionably facilitated shopping, research, and communication. However, not all that glitters is gold, as the old saying goes. In all honesty, if given the chance, I would trade every bit of this modern technology and fast-paced, "got-to-have-it-now" society for the much simpler and far less chaotic 1980s, without hesitation. As far as I'm concerned, *everything* back then BUT computers was superior to American life in the 21st Century: toys, games, TV shows, movies, music, pro-wrestling, breakfast cereal, local restaurants & businesses, POLITICS (Reagan instead of Obama -- need I say more?!) . . . you name it. Unless you experienced life back then, it's really impossible to understand what I mean. You just had to be there!
Needless to say, I am so richly *blessed* to have grown up when I did with the wonderful family and friends I had (and still have, to a degree). Yeah, I'm sentimental. ;-)
ArnoldArchives I can't disagree with your comment about "Reagan", we need another great leader like him but will probably never get one. I share the same love as you or anyone who grew up in the 80s and 90s but yea it is more sentimental then anything else. Every generation loves what they grew up with.Though as for toys, games, arcade etc. we did have a nice BOOM for sure, ditto with Cartoon/TV Shows.Ah but life goes on. Nothing wrong with being sentimental about it. I don't recall life being all that much better esp. when it came to collecting toys - once it went out print you were screwed. Today I can buy (and download) whatever I want from the 80s and 90s.
+ArnoldArchives I was born just after the golden age of society but just before the age where every 6 year old plays cod and knows more cuss words than I do.
Golden years for whose experience these years with joe toys.
Like most guys my age these toys were the ish back then. One day i wanna walk in a old ladies garage sale and find all these old toys she selling cause her kid dosent want them any more. Thats my dream haul of a find lol. Great video!
This is the toyline that spark desire in my young heart. So many Joe's so many vehicles. YO JOE !!!
i didn't grow up with original 1980's gi joe, i grew up with the gi joe spy troops and valor vs venom toy line i still have my gi joe spy troops movie ah memories.
im right there with you, i grew up with spy troops and valor vs venom when i was growing. now watching these commericals, makes me want to buy them the 25th anniversary line. they still have, the same feel as they did back then kids will remember gi joe because their parents grew up them. what do i know i grew up with spy troops and valor vs venom.
I had a Skyhawk back in the day.
Love this! When I was a kid they actually marketed pro-American, pro-military & patriotic toys to kids, and my generation loved it!
The guy singing themes for these must have been set for the whole decade.
Head to a local Walmart or Target snd take a look at the toys there, most of them pale in comparison to 80's GI JOE. I still remember the day Me mum bought me the Cobra Rattler, and I even remember what the weather was like. What a stellar toy.
When toys didn’t suck!! Best eta of gi joes as well as toys in general. The best!!
Thanks for the memories.
Such memories. My childhood was basically Star Wars, G.I. Joe, and Transformers. The Holy Trinity of our generation.
3:50 Wonder how many kids lost the "depth charges" by dumping them into the water like that.
Lol!! Probably why they cost lot of money on Ebay.
if I recall correctly, the depth charges floated.
Haha, Metthld313! I lost one of my four Cobra Hydrofoil depth charges! Glad to know I'm not alone! I probably lost it playing in the snow.
"Release depth charges!... Find depth charges!"
@@joejoe3595 They did, but that means they can float down a stream too...
Man, these really bring back memories.
I want those 82 cobra prototypes so bad!
Black Heart Yeah hand painted protos used in the TV adds...not an easy find and will cost a heap :(
I doubt they even exist anymore. They were probably tossed away after making the commercial.
Black Heart Or they are in the hands of some collector who would want heaps of $$$ for it.
Possibly but very unlikely. I've been collecting for a long time and I'm sure these would have popped up on Yo Joe or other forums. Especially now in this day in age where everyone has access to a digital camera. Collectors like to show off their rare figures or massive armies. All I know is that I have to build up my 85 Crimson Guards and 86 Vipers up to what they used to be. I recently had to sell a lot of my collection. I regret it big time! But when you need money you need money. I'm currently in the process of writing a dio-story. I'm just thinking of exactly what I want my story to be about and planning out the diorama sets. Plus I need a new camera. It should be an epic venture.
Black Heart I used to collect Joes and Transformers but sold them all off as needed the money, unfortunately that's life. I always wanted the Crimson twins protos as they looked so much better then the ones we got, did anyone every post those or did they disappear?
Seems like the vehicles from the early days were way cooler than the later ones. I remember wishing I had the older vehicles as a kid but were stuck with the late 80s stuff.
Yeah, during the run the vehicles went from resembling actual contemporary military vehicles (MOBAT, Rattler, Raven, APC, Skystriker), to not-quite-but-plausibly-could-work in an actual military (hovercraft, Water Moccasin, HISS, Conquest) to absurd (HAVOC, buzz boar, Pogo battle ball, almost everything after 1986).
The toy and play set market was so crowded and volatile in the mid 1980's that Hasbro seemingly tried to make GI Joe everything to everybody. Tried to compete with the sci fi & fantasy stuff from MOTU, Thundercats MASK, and other stuff from the era instead of pigeonholing it to strict military themes. They were probably damned no matter what they tried.
The band put some soul into it at 1:32
"Make sure to say destro in the song. Do your music magic, but just make sure you say destro"
Its funny how they kept using the same guy, and were like "same melody, but this week we need this toy in the lyrics"
My friend Matt D got the Rattler for his birthday. I was more excited about it than he was.
Among the only things worth watching when I was a kid.
Made me wonder where all my joes are!
Mine usually ended up chopped up by the lawnmower.
whats going on? destro is stealing our tank! we have to stop him! lol priceless!!
+mark1237889 lol yep classic.
That MOBAT Main Battle Tank had a chronic problem of the battery lid falling off and getting the batteries disconnected. Later on, they solved that problem with the Mauler tank. However, the Mauler had the problem of not being able to turn left or right, which at least the MOBAT was able to do.
Destro's such a spawn camper! Screw that guy!
I had tons of G.I Joe figures and Vehicles including the Terror Drome, Night Raven and Rolling Thunder. But I cannot really recall ever actually playing with them. My friends and I would just sit around fiddling with them while talking about G.I Joe.
toys now sure ain't what they used to be .
Aint that the truth
@Ayan Majumdar That's a blanket statement, and you know it. True, some people (keyword: SOME) may develop an unhealthy obsession with video games, but most of us gamers have the will power to look away from the screen and do something else.
Who remembers getting the Sears catalog reading the toy section every fall just to look for joes and circling the joe stuff u wanted for Xmas I read that catalog more than the Bible I knew what page the toy section started Lol
Man i want these so bad
These playsets were sweet. I had the hovercraft and that thing was detailed as can be.
The one toy I wanted but never had lol!....until now...I've been collecting classified and retro...this video was great!
Awesome I’m glad I grew up in the 80’s amazing toys cool cartoons, and legendary music artists. Farmers Boulevard, yeah, you know that's where me and E hang out, cool
out, you know what I'm sayin'? That's where the crib's at!!!!
i am from india and g.i joe was the toys that every kid in my neighborhood had
I still play with my Joe's!
I distinctly remember that '84 commercial. I wanted Mutt & Junkyard so bad! Still remember my Brother and I both buying him at the same lol!
i grew up with spy troops and valor vs venom, i never watched any of the old gi joe now i know what i missed im collection the gi joe 25th anniversary versions of these guys im only getting the original 13 Joes the ones from the comic books.
Wow I miss being a 6yr old kid......the 80s and 90s were just the best!!🤘✌
I remember getting excited when there was a new commercial for me to spend my allowance on
I LOVE G.I. JOE THE CARTOON SHOWS SO MUCH!!!! :-D
1 YEAR FOR CHRISTMAS, WHEN I WAS A KID, I GOT 2 F-14 JETS! MAN, I FELT LIKE THE LUCKIEST KID IN THE WORLD. HAD A FEW GI JOE AND STAR WARS. THE 80'S WAS THE BEST TIME EVER TO BE A KID. TOYS LIKE THESE, SLOT TRACKS, RC TOYS, HOT WHEELS, TRANSFORMERS, TONKA TOYS, CARTOONS, PLAYING OUTSIDE WITH FRIENDS AND SO MUCH MORE!
All those kids are now in the Witness Protection Relocation Program and are now 40-somethings running small businesses in small towns.
Thanks soo much for this epic upload! ! can't tell you how much I enjoyed these commercials I forgot them I was too busy playing outside fake battles with all the neighborhood kids and these figures. I also was a big he man guy and used them to fight in the old WWF ring
those were great commercial
Seeing the skyhawk.... sigh
Loved that thing... got it for christmas
The year earlier we got a puppy
Came home after owning the skyhawk for like 3 weeks maybe. The puppy ate it
Loved that dog. Hated him that day
I have the Sky Stryker in its box but one day in probably 1987 or so I was throwing the parachute up with figures and retrieving them but I never found the second one and I looked all over the yard I looked in the swimming pool and I looked in the bushes and I never found that second pilot seat with parachute so the vehicles incomplete now and that bums me
The amount of gliders that flew over the fence.
This is the memory I cherish: the perfect cheese of some of these lyrics. "It's the wickedest wea-pon YET, ya knowwww..." "Cobra Sea-Ray, it's a FIGHT 'n machine...."
I just jumped in a time machine and went back to my childhood - Thank you for posting!
Thanks for making this. Brings back good memories and ones I never had back then. Man kids have no idea how bad they have things now.
Frank Castle I loved GI Joe and TF as a kid. One thing I hated was I could never buy them all!
I remember building little bases in my back yard and having huge battles. I had over 100 G.I.Joes and an assortment of vehicles. Hours and hours of fun I had. Man those were the days.
Stalker & Rock n Roll were my first two figs!!
Man I really miss the simpler times...
I remember saving my $4.99 to buy an action figure
the motorized battle tank with steeler was the first gijoe I ever had. I miss the 80's the toys and fun were endless... I wish I could go back in time..
we watched this in class and i died. GI JOEEEEEEEEEE
Ah yes, schoolyard memories of GI Joe and Cobra fighting it out-and spending half of recess arguing over who won. I brought my Conquest X-30 and a friend had to smuggle his SkyStriker to school. We ruled the air that week. My X-30 was a Christmas gift since it was usually out of my parents' range for toys. The floating toys fascinated me as well as the removable panels so you could PM your vehicles between battles. I wish I still had all my stuff-the day girls became interesting was the day poor GI Joe's services weren't necessary anymore.
Best toy line ever created.
Yeah GI JOE can't get any better than this toy line one of my childhood greats that's why I collect them now to bring back great memories 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Fun to watch these again...even if they're not in order. It's fun to pick out which of these were out before the show was finished. I love how Scarlet's hair is down in the old ones.
You know what I love about the G.J. Joe Theme song? It was there even before the cartoon came out.
my neighbor and i had the falcon gliders and after maybe 3 throws each, both gliders were broken.
I saw the ship @ Toys r us around 1985. I ask my dad if he can buy me one. He said where you gonna put it? Lol he bought me NES instead.
TheAzurinboyz2012 NES was a lot better. True what ya gonna do w/ that HUGE ship?
Cool! I never seen these ones before!
