We traded in our 2019 Kia forte, for a 2022 Hyundai Santa fe SEL AWD. Were heavily considering the sorrento, but honestly I loved the style of the Santa Fe more, we've already taken our car on 2 road trips, and the Santa Fe does a perfect job in the snow. We love the Hyundai.
Picked up the Santa Fe Hybrid almost a month ago. I have no problems with this vehicle. I dont pull out into traffic so the slight hesitation is not an issue. And if I know I’m driving in an area where I know traffic is bad, I just dial it to sport. No wind noise. No road noise. No hot or cool air inside the interior with the pano roof shade open. The button push gear shift is great instead of the straight up and down in all vehicles. The power in the Santa Fe is a better vehicle to me inside and out and I like the ride better because it feels more luxurious. I drove the Kia and I hate its design inside and out. 😂 Good review though.
Sorento looks more muscular, Santa Fe’s front facial is sort of weird to me. I also prefer the Sorento interior, simple streamlined and driver space feels spacious. The Santa Fe driver space feels crowded because of the high positioning of the center console. I test drove Santa Fe first, but the outside look and the inside clutter made me steer away. Now, a Sorento Ex owner, 8000miles later, still love this beauty.
2022 Sorento SX prestige owner here. Love everything about it. I was looking at the Hyundai first but I wanted the manual shifter in the Sorento. That was a requirement. I am ~3000 miles in and I'm loving everything about it. smooth driving experience and looks very handsome. I get compliments on all the tech it has and the looks. The Hyundai does have an added advantage of complimentary maintenance. My color is the everlasting silver color with black accents and black interior. My only dislike is all the gloss black on the exterior and interior.
If you are thinking of getting either of these vehicles test drive them both. Last summer I tested the limited Santa Fe (no calligraphy models in stock locally at the time). I thought this was the car I was going to want, having had several Hyundai vehicles previously and not having a good impression of Kia. The Santa Fe has a high seating position (couldn’t rest my right elbow on the center console while touching steering wheel), a stupidly skinny steering wheel, kind of hard seats, a very bouncy ride that swayed side to side a lot & mushy steering which made it no fun to drive. The final straw was that mess of buttons in the center console. The angle of those buttons and the shiny fake aluminum plastic that is used for those buttons, gives off a glare when the sun hits it. Seriously, test drove around noon and with the sunroof open I had to hold my hand over the buttons to see what they were. And they are all grouped together in one big mess. I hadn’t planned on looking at the Sorento but went to look at one on the off chance I wouldn’t hate it. Every single problem listed above is not a problem with the Kia. It has much tighter suspension and steering, wider and cushier seats, logically placed buttons at a not weird angle. And the styling is more aggressive and fun compared to the bland mom style Santa Fe. Still get compliments today on it. Got the x line in the everlasting gray and same interior as the one in this video.
Bought the 2023 Sante Fe, so comfortable, tons of space, great safety features and the 'mess of buttons' is far more usable than scrolling through a touch screen while driving. By the way I'm a tech guy and design UI's.
I have a Santa Fe calligraphy I drove both vehicles the Sorrento's interior seems like from 20 years ago I love the buttons Within Reach you put it all together to me there's no comparison Santa Fe calligraphy all the way
I would go for a Sorento SX Prestige if it had a bench in the second row. I like the rust brown interior color show here & the vents look great to me imo. But because the SX Prestige is only available with captain's chairs that's why I'd go for the Santa Fe Calligraphy trim
Two weeks into owning Santa Fe Prestige as its called here in the UAE, top line specs. We get a 3.5 V6 option here, AND 7 seats. No idea why it's not available where you are. it's the second Santa Fe we've owned and its my wife's car. Great daily and this new spec is super quiet, comfortable and well appointed. Way nicer than the Sorento, which is still a nice car. Kia/Hyundai group are kicking ass....
I have a 2016 Sorento. I’m picking up my teenage daughter’s friends tonight. I’ll need the 7 seats. In Australia Santa Fes also have 7 seats as standard.
AWD is great for accelerating in slippery conditions, but it does not improve rolling traction as I believe you’re describing when talking about the 50:50 torque distribution mode. This is such a common misunderstanding - and dangerous. Nothing like watching the AWD vehicles speeding through snow like they have magical braking and steering powers because all 4 wheels are attached to the motor.
I have to agree with many other comments. And my opinion hasn’t changed since these two new-generation models debuted. I was always forgiving of the exterior looks one the Santa Fe - primarily because the interior looked very nice. But without a question I was always partial to the exterior of the Sorento. Very aggressive, sharp, and while still maintaining a relatively level design along other mainstream appearances - very attractive. One thing that I wish could be done is two just combine the two. Get the exterior of the Sorento with the interior of the Santa Fe. Yes, i know some say it’s too intrusive and up in your face - but the interior of the Sorento sort of has an ugly look to it, what with the vents, all that piano black plastic, and not to mention more capacitive touch controls. Obviously that will never happen and this is just one person’s opinion. One thing that made this “competition” much closer with the 2022 model is the fact that they added driver seat memory to the Sorento, which was fully omitted on the 2021 models. This specific feature is key in our next purchase as - if we are going to spend that much money on a vehicle we may as well have the features that add convenience - and with the size difference between myself and my petite wife, it’s worth it to have especially after having it on our Sedan. But of course with the extreme markups on nearly, if not all, vehicles it could be quite a while before we make the plunge and buy our first SUV.
I prefer the design of the Sorento, Santa Fe needs a total redesign, which is expected in 2023 as a 2024 model. Sorrento may get a small facelift with updated headlights and tail lights, and a large single screen infotainment like on the 2023 telluride. Where I live the Santa Fe is the better deal. All the Kia dealerships are charging $5k-$15k “market adjustment” which is a rip off. Hyundai across the street is selling at msrp so for a super close competitor, the Kia locally loses that value.
Riding in a 22 Sante Fe for a work vehicle, I absolutely HATE the center section in the front seat. If I was to get in any type of accident, there is no way to get out of the seat and you are just stuck. My 22 Sorento is also WAAYYY more comfortable, roomy, and just feels like better quality. I prefer the Sorento for daily driving, long trips, but if I was using the vehicle for race/power, I would use the Sante Fe.
Santa Fe hybrid is a better choice for me. I like the more aerodynamic shape and I prefer the interior. Did not want a rarely used 3rd row of seats. Both are nice looking vehicles. It just comes down to one's needs and preferences.
Just bought the Sorento SX Prestige X-Line and I love everything about it. The looks, the comfort, the way it drives and handles is like no other car I've had. This thing has more options and do dads with an owners manual thicker then any text book. I love the huge sun roof and just the way the car looks.
If I had to guess, that off-roady squared off look versus a more refined look, coupled with the differences in chassis tuning, might be a good strategy for Hyundai/Kia going forward. They tried doing something similar with Telluride and Palisade, but unfortunately end up with just kinda ugly instead of refined on the Palisade.
I think the Sorento looks better and more modern inside and out. Its design is sharp and sleek unlike the Santa Fe which has aged poorly in my eyes. I had one as a loaner for a month and a half while my Optima was in the shop and it's one of the most uncomfortable vehicles I've been in, with unrefined driver's assistance features. It was quiet and rode well though
@@zhiyako4032 2021. However it was the mid trim, not the calligraphy. Perhaps the calligraphy has better seats, but I definitely found the Sorento to have more comfortable seats for my body. The Santa fe had a few pressure points throughout the seat
I love the Santa Fe but I’m gonna wait till they integrate the screen into the dash and they definitely need to move the turn signals up. I will not buy the car the way that it is but if they make those two fixes I’ll buy it. I’ll trade in my current Tucson and go for the hybrid. Come on Hyundai. You’re almost there but you made a couple of really crazy choices.
Love your delivery and style. Great job. Only thing driving me crazy? I keep vehicles long so I want all options important to me. My current is a 2010 Venza still going strong. But I want that Sorento matte grey in a hybrid. Not possible. I want wireless Android auto. Bizarrely they don't offer it in high trims but do in low trims. What what what?
We opted for the Santa Fe because the Sorento has captains chairs in the middle and no option to get rid of them for a split bench, also no option to get rid of the near useless third row seating. That was a terrible mistake by KIA!
I bought the Santa Fe 2.2 litre turbo diesel 7 seater Highlander fully loaded. That’s what you get in Australia for the top of the line vehicles. It edges out the Sorrento. Just more refined and some better features.
