      Eating alot of carbs and low protein and fat results in high glucose spike. When you sleep not long after that spike is sustained resulting in high blood glucose for a very prolonged period of time. I reccomend looking into it, even if weight doesn't move up due to timing of when you eat, there are other aspects to health beyond just weight

    I think the real point is that if you need the energy you should eat and if you’re trying to build muscle you should def eat your protein. But I’ve noticed late night carbs are more likely to make me hungrier for more carbs than late night protein shakes or foods. There is also supposed to be a calories from fat affect from eating carbs late but the stress effects of staying up late on appetite and fat accumulation might also be a good reason to refrain as well.

    • @abusopian09
      @abusopian09 Місяць тому +2

      No, what you eat is what important. if u still hungry it's mean you eating something wrong, something does not make you full, wrong composition. and about fat accumulation, it's depending on who are you. do u have genetic easy gain weight? so be it. I have genetic skinny and high metabolism from my parents, i often meal in night, do i gain weight easy? nope very bullshit.

    • @IronBroccoli
      @IronBroccoli 6 днів тому

      @@abusopian09 I don’t know if you understood but I agree with you mostly. What you eat matters. 100 calories of Protein is more filling than 100 calories of carbohydrates and those carbohydrate calories eaten late at night in my experience are more likely to make me crave more food. Because hunger is a psychological/ hormonal response not 100% connected to the need to eat food. So we can be hungry when we don’t need to eat. But this is really true any time of the day.

    Timing does matter, predicates here with a continuous glucose monitor. If I eat late at night a big meal, my glucose will stay high for next day even after walking for an hour. The only way I figured out after 2 years of trying is to finish my last meal before 3pm preferably without carbs, then walk for about an hour before 6pm. This way when I go to bed , my glucose will be below 100, and stay between 60-100 until breakfast next morning. Morning breakfast at 10am gave me a well 19 hours of low glucose/insulin level. And savory breakfast with small amount of whole grain like yam, pumpkin. No carb for the 2nd meal, plenty of protein veggies and fat. Skip the 3rd meal and replace with one hour brisk walk.

    • @pc6985
      @pc6985 10 днів тому +6

      In the context of fat gain/loss, like what the video is about, calorie in and out is what matters, not timing. Glucose/insulin levels don't necessarily correlate with fat gain/loss, so that's a whole other story. It only indirectly affects fat gain like how cravings might make it harder to maintain a calorie deficit or follow your meal plan. There is also the possibility of the body storing more fat due to hormonal imbalances despite having a similar calorie intake, but this is generally more applicable to people who have insulin sensitivity issues or metabolic disorders, or people who just have poor dietary habits (like constantly eating high carb meals) matched with a sedentary lifestyle. Generally though, most people would still be losing fat as long as they maintain a calorie deficit, regardless of meal timing.

    It matters, it's not about calorie in or out, it's about hormon cycle. When you eat you raise your insulin level, when your insulin level is high, your body does not burn fat as fuel no matter how hard your training is. In fact, the harder you train, the more huff and puff you are the more you are burning glucose, not fat. Burning fat requires both oxygen and low insulin level. So yeah, it is better to eat within 8 hour window (preferably you have your last meal hours before you go to sleep) or less (like 7 or even 6 hour window) whenever you can so that your body can use fat as fuel especially during sleep with low insulin level, not high insulin level.

    There's a lot of new research now that shows eating timing does matter for health. Eating 2 hours after sunset should be avoided. Around 8:30am is the optimal time for eating. The data from these new literature is convincing enough that the Johns Hopkins and Stanford website recommends people to eat dinner earlier and avoid late meals. Late night eating disrupts the circadian rythmn and causes a cascade of problems with your hormones and metabolism.

    So here’s the thing, eating carbs at night will indeed cause you to gain fat more easily than when consumed earlier in the day. However, this is only true if you are eating those carbs at night by themselves. What this does is that it causes your body to spike in your blood sugar in a very negative way, and typically the spikes are mitigated or lessened via activity, but when you were sleeping, your body isn’t moving, and that is the type of activity your body needs for these massive carb only glucose spikes. So now comes the important and useful part of this comment: eating carbs at night with a good source of protein, especially a protein high in casing that will take longer to digest, will completely make eating carbs at night a non-problem. Pair your carbs with a long digesting protein source and a bit of fat for your late night meal, and you are on your way to optimal body fueling health and even muscle gain (if you are eating the right types of food of course!).
    I have years of experience that I wish to share, so I hope this information and explanation helps somebody in someway :)

    Digestion requires energy. Body also has a rhythm, look up circadian rhythm. When those are respected, food is well digested with lesser energy expended this better metabolic rate. In short, eating at the correct time is imperative to proper food digestion which equals to not just good metabolism but good energy levels. That’s what metabolic is about as well, energy, not just the ability to digest food - which requires energy.

    Bro thank you, I have a very irregular eating cycle but it's what works for me. Having my first meal at about 2 to 3PM and then having smaller meals often until like 9 to 10 where I have one last big meal before heading to sleep.
    When my mother catches me eating at night, she likes to get on my case about it, but I still weigh about 120lbs at 5'3

    Eating very late means sleeping very late. You need 2-3 hours before lying down. 🤷

      @@jotomato If you eat at 7 pm and your last bit of food is at 7:45 it means you can sleep till 10:45 - 11:00 so that's late to some people that wake up early

    Eating at night isn’t necessarily bad for weight loss, but idk, CARBS at night might make a difference. And you shouldn’t eat late at night anyways for many other factors ppl have pointed out already, like digestive issues… if you’re eating too close to bedtime and you wake up feeling lethargic and nauseous, that’s why.

    A lot of ppl don't eat close to before sleeping to prevent heartburn / acid reflux. If u develop more serious acid reflux, GERD, and have it chronically, ur more at risk for esophogeal cancer.

    I was taught no food before sleep because your body has to process it (work) and you won't sleep well but i always sleep better after a huge meal, even sugary things and im not fat. Each person is different.

    I think it probably comes from the fact of it being a 4th meal. If you track calories, it's different. But for the large majority of people that just eat when they get bored, nighttime eating when you just don't need any extra calories probably is a good way to get fat.

    Not sure how accurate this is. Valid studies show that our rate of digestion decreases slowly after sunset. So eating late night maybe be putting additional load on the body affecting other night related activities like cleansing, deep sleep etc.

    One time I tried to lose weight for a certain event because the dress they had was slightly tight. The only thing i changed is to finish dinner before 8 (to note i normally don't eat breakfast, and only eat during lunch hour). Even the lady who helped me on the fitting was surprised and asked how did i lose weight in 2 weeks.

    In theory, you are right. However, in practice, people crave late night snacks, and that's what puts them into surplus. So it's just easier to follow the hard set rules of no good after 8 pm to not temp people.

      Overall health is not as simple as calorie in and out. Even if you care about losing/getting fat, you can eat only white sugar everyday while "calculating" what you think as calorie in and out, your calorie in may be lower than calorie out in that day, but you'll get diabetes very soon, and your body will not respond with how many calorie "in" anymore.
