War Thunder's first Rank IV jet has arrived at a battle rating of 5.3. This aircraft was introduced in 1942 and I can kinda understand the battle rating based on that date... Then you fly it and realize it turns better then anything I have ever flown in game. Armed with 3 .50 cal machine guns and a 37mm in the nose. This is a very strange aircraft to fly.

You know there's a problem when it can dogfight a Japanese aircraft and win. Nice to see Orange around as well.
Because the wing spend of the aircraft it is able to turn really well in dogfighting.

The flight model is a bit weird because the actual aircraft was a bit weird. Yeager loved how smoothly it flew and the maneuverability but it dumps energy like a dive into a pool full of molasses and doesn't have the thrust to gain any back. This thing's from October 1942...

so this is why they had that April fools event with the UFO, to test out this planes flight model.
Actually it looks like they recycled the flying unicorn flight model for this one.
I tried doing the event but was too stupid to be able to control the UFOs.

It was America’s first jet after Britain unwisely shared the technology with that crooked nation of Shysters, the USA. It was slow and didn’t really get into service.

@@Olyvia.. ever head of the P80/F80 shooting star? 2 of them got into Italy near the end of the war, but never faced combat. They served for a while, and still serve as a trainer and ground attacker in conversions. It was much better than any late war props and even some German jets, as it wasn’t rushed into production.

Saw PhyDaily do one yesterday, both him and Bo did great.
Not quite text book, but WT landings seem to be all about drifting and killing any ground crew.

This jet when I saw it in the stream was absurd. I thought it would be mediocre, but I guessed not.
I hope Gaijin fixes it later, I would hate to face this in Air RB. That the Japanese have difficult with it is telling. Great stuff as always though Bo.

I remember first searching this plane up and thought about gaijin adding this plane as part of the normal tree. I was thinking where the P-80 would be with a BR of 6.0. Then I saw this as a reward for the summer event and was excited to see it in-game.
The landing part is the best XD

This thing should be 6.0 - 6.3 MAX. It is not better than, say, the Kikka which is at 6.7
JMan I’m looking at Bo’s speed throughout this video, and I’d honestly rather have a P-38K or a P-47M. It can whip around like a dreidel on speed, but the acceleration out of those turns looks like it’s just above garbage. 5.3 or 5.7 is going to be fine once people spend about 3 days fighting it l.
Likely some changes or say modifications will be applied in the near future on this plane. And you are right, could get to 6.0 at the end.

Bet you anything in the world that the current P-59 flight model is NOT going to be the flight model we get once it goes completely live... I feel like during this stage it's been modeld to be overpowered so we all get excited watching the content creators, but once us random garbage plebeians get it it's going to be just barely average at best, and will not turn anywhere near as good. Mark my words. OP now then crap later.
Still though, always love a good Bo Time vid, and even better with Orangefan joining too.
To be honest when this thing goes live later this week and we see what squad/steams can do and when people decide to engage/disengage freely Gaijin will be forced to push it towards 5.7 to 6.0.

If you see this thing while flying a 109 you're basically already dead, you cant out turn it, no way can you out run it, and you pretty much have to hope the pilot doesn't know how to use it.
So frustrating ....
