I don't care what Gayjin lying about balance; all bombers ARE too fragile in this game (shame on them)! And same here about gunners: I can't fly, shoot, and bomb, at the same time, so a huge gunner buff is needed for a long time now (i mean come on, when ground AAA gunners pick u from 6km, but the plane gunners can't hit an "airship" from 300m)!
A good start would be to undo the range (and targeting) nerf they did to AI gunners in spring 2018. I mean, why do a nerf that mostly hurts the newbies (who can't shoot on their own) and makes the actual bombing or formation flying even harder than it used to be?
i just like to state that when a bomber was it by a cannon it did a lot of damage, its the way you play them that matters, i always get all the bases destroyed as i am always protected by fighters. if you have a group of friends you chance to live gets higher. bombers fell from the sky thats why there are so many of them, it becomes harder for the fighters to get close.
But non of my friends still play this game anymore, they don't like what the game developed into, even I just login for the gifts sometime, do to getting instant killed after 5 minutes in any BR in a bomber without a chance to survive is not fun. I get along well with a fighter cuz i can solo, but i'm a fan of big planes, and nobody escorts the bombers anymore, like how they use to when the game was new. Players seem to forget that bombers can win the mach too, I know fighters don't get much reward for escorting u ... so they don't do.
in the beginning of any match i ask if anyone would escort me, most of the time i do get players that would help. what about if Gayjin added 3 AI fighters to escort the players bomber, this would also boost the game-play a bit, and would allow bombers to have more defence against Player fighters, so if we use BO's video as an example, 4 bombers would allow 12 AI fighters which may seem a lot but we all know how cunning a player can be. i personally like the idea and if added would allow for more combat.
And to think bombers were known to be rugged. The cannon bud has ruined a lot of things. We all know the P-47 would always die in the first shot, right?
Cannon are FINALLY working properly. Late war heavy caliber cannons (like German's 30 mm) were made to do heavy damage to big targets like bombers. What do you mean by "weak" ? Bombers have always been the prey of fighters, that's why ally fighters had to escort them. But yeah it's not really fun for bomber pilots. Maybeeee they should try to stop rushing the bases and wait for the fighters so they can climb to escort them. It won't save them if the enemy fighters decide to focus them and they would still be pretty much useless if they don't get a kill but at least they would have help from the fighters !

That's why you dive for the deck and fly a wide circle around to your target. This is especially true for the Privateer because that's how it was intended to be flown. There's a reason it has very little ventral firepower.
No, they went low and continued on in a straight line. I mean a WIDE circle. Pretty much the only bombers at rank 4 that can consistently get to their targets in a straight-line rush are the Do 217s and He 177s, solely because of how damned fast they are.

A few hints for all heavy bomber players watching this: Most importantly, don't fly straight to the targets, *especially not against the germans with all of their heavily armed, airspawning bomber killers!* Sideclimb or turn around and climb over your airfield. That way you can form up with other bombers more easily and give your teams fighters a chance to climb and engage the enemy fighters before they hit you. Stay *behind* ( your teams fighters at all times(or rather, keep your teams fighters between you and the most likely approach direction of the enemy), so they have a chance to actually intercept incoming enemies before they can get a shot at you! Second, if enemy fighters attack from the front, fire a few bursts while the enemy is 2k away and when they are at 1km and almost in firing range, *evade!* By doing this you will spoil their aim at least somewhat. This is true even if you are in formation with others, you *have* to get out of the way or you are almost certainly dead. Just watch out that you don't collide with the rest of the formation. After the fighters flew past, reform and manually control the guns again. For the PB4Y-2(or basically any heavy UK bomber higher up than the Halifax) in particular, don't fly at high altitude like a heavy bomber usually does. Just like the british heavies, you have no ventral defensive guns whatsoever, so it's better to go low. That also makes you harder to spot for the airspawning and usually high flying interceptors. Again, don't go straight towards bombing points or other targets, fly off to the side of the map and turn back in once your teams fighters have met the enemy fighters. And last but not least... be patient! The longer you live, the more important you become for the team. If there are only a few players left, that usually also means there are few tickets left on both sides. It's in these situations where you can make the biggest difference and actually win matches for your team. You'll also get way more RP and lions out of it than if you'd just suicide rushed towards a bomb point or ground targets. The only two heavy bombers that are possible exceptions to some of this are the japanese G8N1 and the german He 177, because of their high speed and good rate of climb(especially high up for the G8N1) and the excellent dive speed limit of the He 177. This opens up different possibilities. For the He 177, rushing to the bomb point in a shallow dive and then doing a gentle turn towards your base will often succeed in baiting enemy fighters after you and *below* your own fighters, and the high speed you are flying at will mean that enemies trying to shoot you down are forced to come in from the rear at a low closure rate, increasing your chance of survival by a lot. Basically, the same tactics that work with the Do 217 bombers also work for the He 177.
To conclude: Your existence as a bomber is pointless unless your team is winning and the enemy tries to prolong the match. So, my tips for bomber players: 1) Afk the first 10 min (while flying towards the border of the map). Then - depending on the situation - either fly back home to bail out on airfield, or go bomb the bases. 2) Play IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad or something where you don't have to simultaneously pilot, bomb and man all the guns on your own.

I have flown a B17 with no tail, no left aileron, engine 3 out and I had 2 gunners that were not dead. I guess engine 3 dying was a blessing in disguise because it countered the left aileron being unusable. I forgot to say earlier that engine 2 was also out and I had to fly across the map to get back to base. Plus I had no escort and that was my 3rd battle with that plane

Uh, there were... and there are in the game. Heck, the Tier 1 TB-3 has them. It's just that it doesn't always work, especially not when your fuel tanks and engine get ripped apart by dozens of 30mm and 20mm mineshells.
SD501st No they are not xD theres no button, switch, or indication!! I fly American bombers frequently, and they do NOT have that function in game. The engine extinguishers destroy the engine, but nullify the fire from burning the wing or any part of the plane more. Most all American aircraft had them. Even the P38. It had an extinguisher even in the cockpit.
How it feels to play bomber: 9/10 lives: DEAD, TAIL CUT LOOSE, PILOT KNOCKED OUT, WING CUT LOOSE. But that one life, that one life where you survive just long enough, or against unholy odds, or take unbelievable damage, but still make it to a base and wipe it off the map. And sometimes, if all the gods smile uppon you, you make it back to base /somehow/ ...and then get bombed by their bombers that your team didn’t notice all match
That opening reminded me 1,000% why I refuse to play any Air RB anymore. That exact set of scenarios is what happens 7/10 times I play Air RB in any aircraft (except things like the RU Hurricane or the 2.3 Tier 2 Yak-7B I think and such), and the other 3 times result in a 90% success rate of me doing absolutely NOTHING through the entire match and earning 0 RP and 0 Silver. However that can probably be attributed partly to the fact that I have zero friends to play War Thunder with (and I barely have any friends at all, let alone any to play games with on a consistent basis. I'm thoroughly impressed at your patience with this game Bo, and applaud it. I would have given up entirely after about the fifth match where I died off the start to a Do 335 or Ta. Good luck in all your future endeavors!
It's all about comedy. If you want good fights, don't bother with WT. But if you want comedy that remotely looks like a battle WT is great. (But if you want it more than 2% of the time, you need to play rank 1 Air Arcade with Russia. Or maybe Tank Realistic with Russian AA, M-22, Puma or some other annoying thing)

Glad to see bomber gameplay! Keep it up this was too funny! Also I've found that when flying bombers it's better to loiter around over your airfield and wait for your teammates to engage, forcing them to be fighter escort. It takes time and patience, but it's better than shelling out for repair costs due to cannons that apparently fire whole freight trains at you. Also, using cloud cover helps me a lot
There should be a game made where there is two teams, one team attacks the bombers the other team drives the bombers. The aim is to get the bombers to the bombing location and escape without getting shot down. However there are different roles on the bomber team and each role has a different perk, each man in the plane being able to roam around the bombers and repair, reload and fire the mounted guns inside. There should also be a penalty for loosing formation too if not severely damaged. However on the opposite team (attackers) theres is customisation for the attacking planes (aswell as the bombing team) the better the rank the better the upgrades, but not any overpowered upgrades, for example if an attack plane has an option for an upgrade that makes the guns a lot better there will be less ammo for the plane. Plus A game like this should also be highly realstic and have top of the range graphics, physics and sounds, all doing this while being a relatively easy game to run as there is no detailed grass and trees and building and what not, but being a fun game to play with friends!

It does seem strange. I've done the same in my B-29, makes controllability difficult, but I'm still flyable. They shouldn't get a kill for that.
I have flown a B17 with no tail, no left aileron, engine 3 out and I had 2 gunners that were not dead. I guess engine 3 dying was a blessing in disguise because it countered the left aileron being unusable. I forgot to say earlier that engine 2 was also out and I had to fly across the map to get back to base. Plus I had no escort and that was my 3rd battle with that plane

The real OP shit dispensers are .50 cals Test with friend: Me in BV238, he in P47, literally 4 bullets from one on his wing's armament saw off one wing, the elevator and took the aileron control as well setting one engine on the other side(!) on fire which wasn't even hit

Uh, there were... and there are in the game. Heck, the Tier 1 TB-3 has them. It's just that it doesn't always work, especially not when your fuel tanks and engine get ripped apart by dozens of 30mm and 20mm mineshells.
SD501st No they are not xD theres no button, switch, or indication!! I fly American bombers frequently, and they do NOT have that function in game.
The engine extinguishers destroy the engine, but nullify the fire from burning the wing or any part of the plane more.
Most all American aircraft had them. Even the P38. It had an extinguisher even in the cockpit.

Doesn't matter what tactics you employ, ever since the cannon buff, bombers, no matter the tactic, will be shot down within seconds.
How it feels to play bomber: 9/10 lives: DEAD, TAIL CUT LOOSE, PILOT KNOCKED OUT, WING CUT LOOSE.
But that one life, that one life where you survive just long enough, or against unholy odds, or take unbelievable damage, but still make it to a base and wipe it off the map.
And sometimes, if all the gods smile uppon you, you make it back to base /somehow/
...and then get bombed by their bombers that your team didn’t notice all match

I love these videos we're you guys are in bombers and when all hell breaks loose shit just hits the fan.
That opening reminded me 1,000% why I refuse to play any Air RB anymore. That exact set of scenarios is what happens 7/10 times I play Air RB in any aircraft (except things like the RU Hurricane or the 2.3 Tier 2 Yak-7B I think and such), and the other 3 times result in a 90% success rate of me doing absolutely NOTHING through the entire match and earning 0 RP and 0 Silver. However that can probably be attributed partly to the fact that I have zero friends to play War Thunder with (and I barely have any friends at all, let alone any to play games with on a consistent basis.
I'm thoroughly impressed at your patience with this game Bo, and applaud it. I would have given up entirely after about the fifth match where I died off the start to a Do 335 or Ta. Good luck in all your future endeavors!

It's all about comedy. If you want good fights, don't bother with WT. But if you want comedy that remotely looks like a battle WT is great. (But if you want it more than 2% of the time, you need to play rank 1 Air Arcade with Russia. Or maybe Tank Realistic with Russian AA, M-22, Puma or some other annoying thing)
I mean, he has an account that literally has thousands of GE and SL on it... he can pretty much afford to be "patient" to bombers, while others can't.

Bo, would you consider making some more heavy bomber videos? The B-24 perhaps? I realize that's basically what the PB4Y is, so perhaps the B-17? Or even the B-25, that'd be a fun video too. I imagine they're a pain to make, dying constantly and all, but certainly some of my favorite content. :)

Glad to see bomber gameplay! Keep it up this was too funny! Also I've found that when flying bombers it's better to loiter around over your airfield and wait for your teammates to engage, forcing them to be fighter escort. It takes time and patience, but it's better than shelling out for repair costs due to cannons that apparently fire whole freight trains at you. Also, using cloud cover helps me a lot

There should be a game made where there is two teams, one team attacks the bombers the other team drives the bombers. The aim is to get the bombers to the bombing location and escape without getting shot down. However there are different roles on the bomber team and each role has a different perk, each man in the plane being able to roam around the bombers and repair, reload and fire the mounted guns inside. There should also be a penalty for loosing formation too if not severely damaged. However on the opposite team (attackers) theres is customisation for the attacking planes (aswell as the bombing team) the better the rank the better the upgrades, but not any overpowered upgrades, for example if an attack plane has an option for an upgrade that makes the guns a lot better there will be less ammo for the plane. Plus A game like this should also be highly realstic and have top of the range graphics, physics and sounds, all doing this while being a relatively easy game to run as there is no detailed grass and trees and building and what not, but being a fun game to play with friends!
So something similar to "Wolfpack" but for planes. Well the possibility exists. And I agree, such a game would be fun to play with friends.

Oh they do, but god damn are they fragile, imo dive bombers like the p47 are way better, less hitbox, more firepower, more maneuverable, and for some reason more hp, the only thing big bombers really have on similar br smaller ones is bomb load.

Because the fighters that did take out 3 of them are bomber interceptors with mk108s that were designed for bomber hunting. But I agree, those PB4Ys weren't exactly resilient lol
