This is how my mama always made her dressing. If she has broth from her turkey she uses that in her dressing and gravy and it just gives it the best flavor.

So far, you are the only one that I’ve seen on UA-cam that makes Dressing with Cornbread (like my Mother used to-& the way I always make it) instead of using Stove Top Stuffing!! I don’t like the Stove Top Stuffing at all! I had a friend that made their dressing with Stove Top Stuffing, until I had her and her husband come and eat at my house! She raves about my dressing and told me that she wanted me to show her how I made mine! I did and bless her heart, they even had Chicken And Dressing with the Gravy and Cranberry Sauce for Easter, Thanksgiving & Christmas!! She passed away several years ago…she was like another Mother to me!!
Thank you, I’m so proud that you shared this wonderful recipe and I really hope lots of people try this!! It’s really very good, and personally I think it’s a whole lot better than any other dressing that I have ever had!! Thanks again & have a wonderful Blessed Thanksgiving and a Merry Merry Christmas!! This is how I make my cornbread. You’re correct…. butter just makes everything gooder. I add lots of celery and onions to my dressing. I also add a couple of homemade biscuits and 2 cups of bread torn up. And I use boiled eggs in mine. This is a recipe from a very dear friend. Her momma gave it to me and they’ve both passed on. I make this every year. I add boiled chicken to it & I make 2-8x8 pans because my husband and oldest son likes oysters in theirs. 🤢I’m not eating that dressing. Yours looks so yummy and I’m definitely going to make mine ahead and freeze it this years. I’m getting new cabinets and countertops the 4th of November so my kitchen is a mess right now but I think I can put this dressing together. Bless you sweet lady. You just brighten my day. 🇺🇸♥️🇺🇸🙏🏻🙏🏻I use my Tupperware cake cover to mix stuff up in. It’s bigger than any bowl I have. You might try that if you have one. 😊

Ok you don't precooked your celery and onion does it get soft or does it still have a crunchy bite to it? I like my onions and celery super soft but if I could just mix in and it cook to soft I would skip that step.

      @KarenJonesFoodFamily  2 роки тому

It gets them soft as I like. If you're wanting more softer then cook just a bit first. Great question thank you. 😊

All looks delicious .. except for the eggs in gravy ! Had it once and wasn’t fond of it !! But could eat the rest with no problem ! I can almost smell it !! Thank you for this ! I was supervisor over our jail kitchen for 23 1/2 years and we would cook 16 huge turkeys and then make the dressing .. like this !! About 14 huge full size sheet pans full !! It was such a wonderful smell getting it all prepared !

It is wonderful smells as you prepare. And the best part is if you don't like something, like the eggs, you can easily leave it out. Wow! 23 1/2 years. That's amazing service. ❤️😉

Look good. I've never had homemade dressing. I've always had stove top. This doesn't look too difficult. I've been watching your last few videos. What is that black thing you have on your counter?

Could you add a bit of cream or half-and-half to compensate for the lack of fat in the low-fat buttermilk? The low-fat is all I can find locally. I always have lard--from a local farm! I bet this would be wonderful all year long with some chicken and cranberries. Gravy is an art--that is all there is to it. An art learned by years of experience.

My DIL Stephanie, who has been on several shows with me, says if you add 1 Tbsp melted butter per cup of milk it will bring up the fat content. I bet cranberries with the chicken would be delicious 😋 ❤️

Goodness me, this looks DIVINE. I've never heard of cornbread dressing. Why is it a dressing? Looks more like Cornbread Pie. The best! It all looks doable and so so delicious. Fairly fast as well, not too fussy. Our gravy in the UK looks different though. Please, we need a Taste button somehow... this is torture.. He-he! ♡♡♡ xx..

ETA: The only thing that beautiful gravy needed was some good ole gizzards (cooked and soft) and livers in there. Maybe some finely diced onions. You've got me ready to cook, now!

Hello Karen, it's Karen Evong from Cape Breton Nova Scotia. This recipe looks so good it's another must try for me. I am unable to buy white Lilly flour here in Nova, Scotia Canada but will use what I have. Everything here is good and I hope it's the same for you all as well. I still have you all in my prayers God Bless.

    Happy Thanksgiving.
You know If you had 20 people and each brought a pan of dressing each would be different. I'm from south Georgia...married a gal from central Alabama my mother's people are from central Georgia. Both my grandmothes where excellent cooks. Their dressings were both good but different so years ago I thought of combining both aspects of their dressings into one. It was a hit some 20 years later I'm the one that makes the dressing. Today we will have 40 people to feed as we all come together so it has been a week in the making. I use a hen for the broth.
Cornbread aka egg bread biscuits saltine crackers white bread onions butter salt pepper we are not sage and celery fans so I don't put that in ours but I do add cream of chicken and celery soups.. make it up the night before let it marinate in the fridge. Then add 6 raw eggs which makes it extra fluffy. It's cooking now and smells wonderful.

Karen, I want to try this, but have you ever used turkey meat and broth instead of the chicken? I am curious if that would taste as good.

    • @KarenJonesFoodFamily

giblets are not eggs lol they are the liver, heart, gizzard, and neck of a chicken or other fowl, usually removed before the bird is cooked, and often used to make gravy, stuffing, or soup.

I notice that you put the hard boiled eggs in the gravy I have never seen that before but I have seen some put hard boiled eggs in the dressing when they bake it like this I did that recipe a cup below holiday is ago and I loved it but I wasn't sure on the reasoning of it
