I Can’t Believe I Actually Got to Photograph My #1 Dream Destination!

- Jan Mayen is a small island in the Atlantic Ocean that you have probably not heard about. I'd describe it as a combination of the Faroe Islands, The Highlands of Iceland and Japan. This location has been my top destination to photograph ever since I learned about it! We came by this volcanic island on our expedition with Aurora Expeditions on our ship The Sylvia Earle. We sailed in and around the island during the morning and I got about 1,5 hours on the island to photograph what I could.

Mads, glad to see you exploring. The look in your eyes. The excitement in your voice. Your smile on your face. Hearing you say "EPIC". Missed them since your earlier days. MORE!
I'm pretty sure I'm very excited when I'm out on a foggy morning too 😅
Just listening to this guy makes me smile. So entusiastic and full of love of what he does !. Also he is a great teacher and I am in awe of his pictures and how much I learn from his videos. Keep on the good work man
That final photograph at 10.50 was absolutely stunning! Gorgeous.
Great work as always Mads, I really enjoyed the adventure!
Fantastic experience and great photos. Thanks. I have never seen you so happy. Like a boy really having fun. Thanks for sharing the warm emotions from a cold place.
Stunning. Stunning. Stunning. Another place to add to my extensive list!
Incredible and your enthusiasm just added to it. That first image! Oh wowsers!
Well of course I’ve heard of Jan Mayen, I’m Dutch and there’s another part of Dutch history not to be proud of there. But I didn’t know how stunningly beautiful it is. Thank you for sharing
Oh what fantastic scenery, Mads! We could see you were all in photographic heaven! Looking forward to seeing more of your exclusive shots!🇦🇺
WOW.... what a location !!! Your enthusiasm is nice to see and hear, it is very contagious.... even just watching the video. Epic photos of the island, personally I like this atmosphere more even if sometimes you have to fight against mother nature.
Thank you Mads for sharing this adventure !!!
This was such an enjoyable video. It’s such a pleasure to watch someone’s absolute joy at a location. Great photos
OMFG! F for far-out of course! The wispy clouds alone got me!
Hell yeah, Jan Mayen has been on my bucketlist for as long as I can remember. Some sensational shots there Mads, and good choice of music to add to them.
Oh My God, Mads, that was totally epic and awesome. Thank you. xxx
Nice enthusiasm. Great images. Carry on. 👍🥂
Spectacular location thank you for sharing.
So great…loved your energy and excitement. Your captures are stunning 🤩 🤍
Wow, what a stunning place. The photo at 1:16 is pure magic!!
WOW, WOW, OMG
Epic video Mads. And stunning shots. Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm
What a fabulous set of pictures!
oh my god its beautiful, and the images bring it to life in stills.
Wow, what an experience! The photographs are, in my opinion, among your most stunning, ever! Again, wow!
You should come to Shetland. The north west side of the mainland(Eshaness) is volcanic and the island of Papa Stour is volcanic and like a little part of Iceland with stacks and sea arches.
That looks very beautiful indeed!
Mads, you're definitely excited! So many compositions the mountains and clouds mimic each others curves.
I've LITERALLY just died of jealousness. What an absolutely stunning place, and one that will remain completely inaccesssible for everyone but a handful of people. Thanks for sharing!
RIP
Loved this video!!! I had not heard of the island. But wow just the scale of it….A great adventure. Photos were incredible!!!!
Pure magic! What a beautiful place. A M A Z I N G photos.Thanks for sharing 🤩
That must have been such an experience Mads especially when it wasn't on the itinerary. The image at 9:27 could easily have been a back drop for middle earth and can easily understand why you could spend months there. A truly fascinating video and now reading up on the mysterious Jan Mayen island
Thank you, Jim! It was indeed absolutely incredible! Would love to go back!
Very nice Mads. Looks like an amazing place to spend a few weeks exploring.
Wow this was awesome. The pictures you’ve captured are truly amazing. This place is a photographers dream come true. I love you enthusiasm for the craft😃👍
Stunning photos and scenery, so lucky to visit a place like that, there are so many nice places to see on this planet
Great video Mads such raw beauty and stunning photography by you ,cool to see you enjoying every second of it ,well done .Greetings from South Africa.
Amazing pictures. I have also dreamed of taking pictures here, every time there has been a report on Norwegian television from Jan Mayen the dream just gets bigger and bigger 🙂 Lucky you!
This, Mads, is beyond epic!
I can always count on Mads to give a beautiful story on the latest scene. I loved the arch with the black sand beach . You're right, I had never heard of Jan Mayen.
Your videos are always excellent Mads but this is spectacular. I’ve never heard of this place. So glad you Nigel and James got to experience this and show the rest of us a hidden gem. The photos are stunning
Sensational Mads, I recognise that joy and excitement that you can achieve when you are experiencing such epic locations. Whilst good (in your case great) photographic outcomes is the pursuit, soaking in the scenes and the atmosphere of such places is enriching for the soul. Thanks for sharing and its added to my destination wish list agenda. Rod
i got CHILLS watching this! Thank you Mads, and the world...
The scenery is beyond "epic". Absolutely out of this world.
You had fantastic conditions ! I've been there 2,5 times (last time we could not land due to the swells). Great pictures !!! Kind regards, Guy.
every photo a masterpiece 👍
WOW!!!
Phenomenal!Thank you!
Beautiful
Redonkulus! Amazing stuff Mads!!!
Incredible location as well. You can actually tell from the excitement on your face haha. Beautiful landscapes.
Thanks for this and your other video logs on your trips; particularly in Iceland!
Wow, thank you so very much, Daniel! That is truly well appreciated! 🙏
Yes indeed epic place and pictures. Fantastic...makes me dreaming.
That sea is incredible! It's almost black, and looks so foreboding and heavy
Wow what an amazing location 😮😮😮
Hi Mads, this is an amazing video about an amazing place in the world. I really enjoyed this video. The fotos you made are unbeliveable. My favorite pic is the one at 5:41 (the one with the rainbow...) Stunning Mads
Wonderful, magical, breathtaking photos!
What a cool wet crazy weather location. Things we do to get the shot.
Thanks for sharing your adventures. Whish you all the best
Yet again... I can't say anything but WOW on a Mads Peter Iversen video... :) I should enroll, oh wait.. I am already :)
Your compositions on this video are stunning. Shots of the volcano from the sea would have been spectacular, but alas, you'll just have to come back again.
Seeing some of your best work here Mads.
Stunning scenery and images to match.
Stay safe 🇦🇺
Spectacular scenery!
Was in Iceland when you put this Vlog out Mads and I pointed out to my daughter the great composition regarding the rock and the arch, like a jigsaw that fitted perfectly 👌 the conditions along the coastline were incredible and the two waves off the back of the boat are sublime 👍 you, Nigel and James are very lucky guys, having said that I have just spent 7 days in Iceland with my daughter and feel just as privileged and came back with my best images in 3 years. Travelling is the spice of life, recording it is special 😉📷❤️
Wow, Jan Mayen. This is awesome Mads! Congrats 🙂
I consider myself pretty knowledgeable when it comes to geography, but this is a new dot on the map for me. Amazing photographs.
Fantastic 👌🙂
Chance of a lifetime, Mads, and some terrific images from it. I'd name that last one "The Cruel Sea" since it conveys how bleak these waters are where so many sailors lost their lives in WW2.
Wow! Epic, epic, epic!!!
Iceland is my dream destination too, that beauti is no where to get
Sccchhhhtunning!!! ❤😊
It would be good to see some of your photos Mads converted to b&w - the mood/atmosphere of the island would look great in b&w.
Stunning photographs as always. I could sense your excitement at being in that wonderful setting. James was probably a bit disappointed at not seeing a traffic cone or street sign. 😂
Just you wait ;)
Hope it was not too much frustrating not staying there at least a week... Insane place!
This island looks like some evil genius lives there 😜
Great images btw
6:58 James should think about a career in modelling!
3:58 beautifull
Cool shots. What lens did you use to capture those?
😍😍😍
trying to look at what you focused on in this photo for me is hard, or does this type of photo need any kind of sharpness? maybe the 4 ground? ps love your channel and keep them coming thanks Mads...
Jeg har hørt om den! :)
well actually I have heard of the island before.😋
It think this calls for a “Wow!”. It looks like you have entered “epic North Atlantic island” into an AI image generator.
1st comment ❤
Please don’t tell him, but this series has really confirmed that I like your style of photography a lot more than James’… 😅
Stunning ?? - you might need glasses mate
Vikings…
I admire your work but when looking at your raw photos, the edited versions seem to be heavily over edited and have little to do with the real conditions you had - for my taste.
Am I the only one that sees a human face on the sea stack at 3:36?
I see a moomin :)
@@MadsPeterIversendefinitely the outline shape of a Moomin but is there not also a human face in the rock? Perhaps I’ve watched too many movies. Han Solo frozen in carbonite(?) or Voldemort’s head under Professor Quirrel’s turban. Perhaps I should just shut up and lie down in a darkened room.
One of the downsides of publicizing "seldom visited" locations is that they become the in place for people to travel. Iceland is a great example of that. I remember the first time I visited Iceland in the 1960s, it was a really great place to visit. Almost no tourists and lots of really friendly people and real (as distinct from tourist oriented) iceland culture. There are examples of this over tourism in Thailand also. Often it leads to destruction of the very reason that people visit these places. Maybe you could just not name the "unknown" location. Make it MUCH harder to find.
Some of my favorite cups of coffee and tea were shared with fellow tourists at a sunrise. I think, if this lot is also crazy enough to hike out here at 3am, surely we share at least one passion together. Can't say I have shared too many with fellow curmudgeon photographers tho. ☕☕
Jan Mayen is not open for the public. It's controlled by the Norwegian military and only open to them and scientists. There are no commercial flights there
Only military transport a few times a year to replace the crew and equipment. So there is no danger of Jan Mayen being a new Faro Island or Iceland. They don't have hotels or even food to share with random visitors. You can't even get there with your own boat as you need permission to go ashore. Very few people have ever visited this island. Even as a norwegian myself I can just forget about ever visiting this place. So I hope it also will stay like this for ever.
Your #1 dream location? Find that hard to believe.. its a nice landscape.. but i think youve definitely had better landscape shots..
Yes, landscape shots, but obviously I didn't get to engulf myself in the landscape and spend months there ;)
