Pretty cool . I welded for a lot of years . He has pretty good skills. One thing I noticed is the use of a grinder. I was taught how to use a cutting torch. I got really good with one . I worked in a welding shop back in the late 60’s through to the early 80’s . If my shop Forman caught me using a grinder to cut up the pieces to make the stove he would of taken my head off . I can hear him now “ do you think them blades grow on trees “ he was really skilled journeyman and I learned lots working under his mentor ship. We did everything production pipe line our expertise was building fuel tanks. We went across the Arctic building tanks. Really remote settlements up past the Arctic circle. I think the furthest place we did a tank was in Resolute Bay. A grinder in our shop was used to clean up a weld or clean up a spot to weld too . Times have changed and I see the guy is pretty good with the grinder or cutting wheel . Not putting him down just stating how times have changed.

Oxy-Acetylene rigs are expensive. You can a whole hell lot of cut off discs for the price of one. Not to mention the cost of filling your tanks. Not to mention the time it takes to drag out the rig...having said that, I’d love to have a cutting rig to complement my plasma cutter. 😃

I saw an artist who spend tens of thousands of dollars and thousands of hours building a "musical instrument" where he dropped balls on some contraptions and the balls ran down the length of the extravagantly elaborate, making some "musical sounds"... a contraption that was so prone to errors, due to the endless angles and joints of the various tentacles... you could only "play" for a brief time and the whole contraption just got very tedious. I used to work as a lathe operator in a machine shop. Two of the guys that worked there made these out of old propane cylinders that were tossed into the scrap pile. The owners at first told them go help themselves to the scraps and the two would use their lunch time to cut and weld as well as fabricate other scrap metals to make these mini pits. They became very popular with the fishing community because they were light and compact to be put in the trunk of a car and taken to the beach or the river to fish and make make hot dogs, burgers or cook your catch. They sold a few to some of us and just by word of mouth orders started coming in from local anglers. It all came to an end when the owners of the shop caught wind of the amount they were selling and demanded a cut from the sales.

Tack welding a couple chain links to make hinges is a complete waste of time, effort, and materials. They will make very weak hinges and take far more effort than just buying a couple of hinges from the hardware store. The only reason to use chain links as hinges is if you're hellbent on pretending you live in a post-apocalyptic wasteland where proper parts no longer exist.
