You know the first Iron Man game is old when it actually managed to get RDJ to lend a voice role despite it being kinda crap bcs it’s at the time when he would do anything to get his career back on track
Here's a good idea: the Transformer movie games for the Nintendo DS. There are 3 games, one for each of the first 3 movies, each with an Autobot and Decepticon version. The interesting thing is that you can see the ambition dropping with each game as they went on
I think that Iron Man game idea of yours already exists in comic book form. I have no idea what it's actually called but Tony basically gets imprisoned at the bottom of the ocean and he has to rebuild his suit as he sneaks through the underwater complex
Why yes, Iron man 1 & 2 for the DS are pretty decent, 2 even more so since they allow you to aim with the stylus as war machine. ... Protip: Get the repulsor ray for Iron Man in IM2 for the DS, it's his best weapon.
I have the first one, i actually played the shit out of it for a long time (poor family so didn't get many games) always liked black sabbath playing for the credits
the idea of building the iron man suit around tony in an iron man game sounds fun. it reminds me of the ending sequence in bioshock where you outfit yourself with all the suit pieces to make yourself into a big daddy.
I remember getting a PSP, and the only game I had was the handheld port of the Iron man tie-in lmao. Looking back, it was awful. I was only 11, though, and I was so damn grateful to have a new game to play. I actually loved it. I miss when my expectations were kept in check, and games were exciting.
RDJ Voice Actor sounding like he has some sorta chest cold, all in all good review! Even if the games are a bit far from solid....even if thats kinda ironic considering the name of the games.
I loved this game as a kid, both the Xbox and the...DS...version...but yeah while it's not too bad from what I remember it's definitely feels like a gritty/edgy early 2000's game for better or for worst, play some Evanescence in the background and it fits perfectly
That game lives and dies on its flight mechanic. It's great, and liberating, and makes you feel a lot like supes. If I remember it had a great intro mission stopping a meteor shower. I remember thinking "wow this is great, I'm saving people, flying around, finally!" Then the rest of the game is a mediocre brawler against boring enemies. Some half decent boss encounters though. I think it's really really difficult to make a superman game, returns is probably the best effort we've seen.
I've heard that the Wii version of the Ironman 2008 tie in game was pretty solid 'cause it takes a semi-original story approach with the progression. Nothing to write home about, but I'd be curious to see what you think of that strange adventure.
I remember this game! I played it on my Xbox 360 when I was a kid, although the only mission I remember is that one where you´re chasing after that aircraft, but I remember using the Hulk buster on that mission
There's a really old Iron Man game you should check out, it was actually a crossover between Marvel and Valiant Comics. It's called Iron Man And X-O Manowar In Heavy Metal. It came out for the PS1 and Sega Saturn with ports (oddly enough) to the Game Boy and Game Gear.
"My non-existent hallucination of a game." I know that feeling, man. I have great game ideas that will never get realized because I don't know the first thing about making a game.
The reason why Spiderman PS4 was so good is coz the developers knew everything about the character. Whereas in these Iron Man games, the developers clearly had no idea how powerful Iron Man is or what even his abilities are. Here's how to make a good Iron Man game - 1. Show his strength - This gets overlooked a lot (sometimes even in the movies) but Iron Man is Class 100 in Marvel Strength Scale (same as Thor & Hulk) which is the topmost tier. This means he can lift 100 tons easily & it can even go over 100,000 tons if we're talking about comics. Iron Man has destroyed mountains in the comics with a single punch. Yet in the games, didn't have much strength. 2. Increase the intensity of his repulsors - Iron Man's repulsor blasts can reach temperatures of 10,000 Kelvin which is double the temperature of the Sun. A single repuslor blast from one of his armours has destroyed an entire island in the comics. Yet in the game & sometimes even in the movies, they seem to be extremely weak. 3. Show all his abilities - Iron Man is possibly the most versatile character in Marvel but all this game showed is that Iron Man can fly, shoot blasts from his palms, shoot missiles and that's it. Iron Man has so many abilities in the comics. He can create force fields, he has Invisibility, Phasing, Technopathy, Magnetism, Ant-Magnetism, Telepathy resistance, Unibeam, Tri-beam, Multi-beam, Pentabeam, Omnibeam etc etc etc yet they didn't even show 98% of these. They just scratched the tip of the iceberg lol
Great video. I played the first Iron Man game on 360 back in 2008 and remember thinking they nailed the feel of being Iron Man. Just flying around the level was so much fun.
Great review as always, minimme. You look like a real-life Claude Speed from GTA III. You should look at other obscure tie-in games. Maybe the Transformers movie games as Goblin Slayer suggested? I'd personally like for you to check out the tie-in game for Robots from 2005.
Loved the video and your take about what would be a good way to presents the Iron Man character in a fictional Iron Man game, because while presents the character and give humanity to him(one of the cool things about the character, besides lasers and stuff), you can also explore many styles of games with this approach(discussed at 13:12 on video, about how it can be a stealth game until Tony is strong enough to escape the prison and battle in cool levels, like the one discussed in 7:57).Another thing I believe would be cool is more levels like the one set in the sky, where many things are happening and the flight element does not make Iron Man overpowered(a thing I believe it is poorly executed in first game, because giving massive amounts of enemies to balance you being able to fly and evade them could be a little boring after a while, so my take on these choices would be your suit being sabotaged by a super vilain in some level, making the suit weaker and not needing infinite amounts of enemies, or have some variety of missions besides you flying and shooting big colored targets). Sorry for the long text, but your take about a fictional Iron Man game make me think about how would be nice to play a game like this, with character development with Tony and other characters in prinson that would help you escape or make your life there worse, maybe a prison gang escape, some political tension inside the prison, stealth elements with a upgrade tree, evolving the game to a more action approach, with explosions, flying levels and such.
I remember having really fond memories of the iron man 2 game when I was younger, But re-watching it now the gameplay is far less action packed then I remember lmao
Would love to see a review for some of the Harry Potter tie in games. With that leaked footage coming out it would be cool to examine the good aspects of those tie in games.
I found Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on PC to be an amazing light RPG. Mind you I was a kid at the time, so IDK if it would still hold up, but it actually felt like it had effort put into it. Then I played the forth game and was like WTF happened?!?
@@scottthewaterwarrior Well tbh "WTF happened" is a good way to summarize all 8 games I mean it started out as a ""open-world"" adventure game (we don't talk about the PS1 days) and ended up as a Gears of War clone

I was like 10 or 11 years old when I got every achievement for this game, didn’t remember it so negatively. I just thought flying and rockets were cool so it motivated me to be the most OP iron man I could become. Also the variety of suits in the first game was super fun
I would argue that he's not wrong. Batman and supes have changed actors too much lately to be relevant. Most kids nowadays would definitely rate ironman as one of the most prominent superheroes in the last 10ish years.
Floating is right. Superman, Spiderman and Batman have changed so many actors. Also Wolverine died down because well there will not be more movies. But Iron Man? Ask anyone and will tell you RDJ is Iron Man.
I'd say he's right tbh. Wolverine is not even in the question, Batman hasn't been relevant in a long time & Spiderman just restarted a few years ago after that horrible TASM franchise. Iron Man has been the most popular superhero in pop culture for the last decade. I mean MCU is the biggest franchise in the world & Iron Man is literally the face of it so obviously that makes him insanely popular. Plus RDJ.
I have to agree that in modern pop culture he is one of the most prevelant, but in His beginings nobody knew who he was outside of the comic books (and even then he wasn't popular in them), meanwhile, thanks to Wolverine, Spiderman, Batman and other superheros that have prove that superhero film could be profitable from both kids and adults Marvel decided to give him a shot. They played it smart and got RDJ to play the part and His first film was a hit. The only reason he stayed relevant was because of the Avengers, cuz lets be honest 2 of His 3 solo movies sucked. Maybe not Wolverine, but Batman and Spiderman are the number one. (There's a reason Marvel made priority number 1 to get spidey back)
Iron man 1 was a childhood favorite of mine for some reason, i really loved playing the second level where you flew around in the silver MK2 suit, and the rest of the game was really arcade action-y and to me at the time, really great I played the crap out of it until i figured out that iron man had unlimited range with how he fights, so in order to win, you literally just had to fly up higher than your nemesis, and that was all, as a lot of them couldn't fly higher than iron man
Actually, Secret Level did indeed prove themselves prior to the Iron Man games. In fact, surprisingly, they were actually a bit more than "fairly unremarkable." Their Unreal Tournament port for the Dreamcast is highly regarded, and even more impressive considering its a port of the PS2 version which was a port of the PC game which was built on an engine not optimized for consoles. It actually impressed Epic Games so much that they formed a long standing relationship with them, working on Unreal Engine related projects and tools. In fact, they were responsible for helping bring Unreal Engine 2 to consoles in general. Most of their games were ports, often enhanced ports, of other games. This includes Final Fight Streetwise, of which they made the Xbox port, not the original PS2 version, so they can't be entirely blamed for that. Things didn't start going downhill until they were bought by Sega, who acquired the studio after being impressed by their work on their upcoming Golden Axe game. After being acquired, they were assigned to develop the Iron Man games, which required significantly more people than they had to work on it properly. This also greatly disrupted the development of the Golden Axe game they were already working on. In the end, the Iron Man games and Golden Axe came out terribly, and Sega closed the studio. A rather tragic end to a underappreciated development studio.
actually, minimme brought up a good point when he mentioned just cause. i think the perfect iron man game would be a just cause style game, mixed with abit of arkam/spider-man mechanics to round it out. you could even do your idea, say stark is trapped on a hydra island or something, start with the prison break suit rebuild with the spider-man fighting system and perhaps a bit of watch_dogs hacking. then once he's broken out go a just cause style game, with a few segments that go back to the spider-dogs style. that would make for a fun game
Had the psp version of the first game when I was little. Loved it, especially the boss in the mansion level and the flying ship level but the titanium man fight was bs
Sure but I do wish the game play had a lot more freedom in to explore Iron Man in the same you can with Spider-Man in the insomniac Spider-Man games and hulk in ultimate destruction

On the topic of ports, the psp version of the 1st game, from what i remember played exactly like the second game level design wise, with unlockable armors, which (I THINK) had their own abilities, idk that might have been something i made up, but it did feature all the cutscenes from the ps3 and xbox versions, which looked better on a smaller screen, it also had behind the scenes videos, with rdj and they were fun to watch
Okay, but here me out. There's a DS version of the Iron Man 2 game that was basically a Metroid game. Granted, it probably wasnt a very GOOD Metroid game, but still, maybe they got closer to being good Iron Man simulators?

(There's a reason Marvel made priority number 1 to get spidey back)
It looks like a very early build of a ps4 game... A remake of it would probably work very well.
can you do a video of your ten most graphically impressive toes?
Iron man 1 was a childhood favorite of mine for some reason,
i really loved playing the second level where you flew around in the silver MK2 suit, and the rest of the game was really arcade action-y and to me at the time, really great
I played the crap out of it until i figured out that iron man had unlimited range with how he fights, so in order to win, you literally just had to fly up higher than your nemesis, and that was all, as a lot of them couldn't fly higher than iron man
I had Iron Man 1 on ps2 and really enjoyed it at the time also the Captain America game is totally different on wii
The iron man game you purposed actually sounds like a really good idea. Good video as usual.
Actually, Secret Level did indeed prove themselves prior to the Iron Man games. In fact, surprisingly, they were actually a bit more than "fairly unremarkable."
Their Unreal Tournament port for the Dreamcast is highly regarded, and even more impressive considering its a port of the PS2 version which was a port of the PC game which was built on an engine not optimized for consoles.
Now there is that vr game
Iron man didnt die for this .
actually, minimme brought up a good point when he mentioned just cause. i think the perfect iron man game would be a just cause style game, mixed with abit of arkam/spider-man mechanics to round it out. you could even do your idea, say stark is trapped on a hydra island or something, start with the prison break suit rebuild with the spider-man fighting system and perhaps a bit of watch_dogs hacking. then once he's broken out go a just cause style game, with a few segments that go back to the spider-dogs style. that would make for a fun game
Had the psp version of the first game when I was little. Loved it, especially the boss in the mansion level and the flying ship level but the titanium man fight was bs
BROOOO!!! I remember playing this game on the ps2 all the time and I literally thought no one else knew about these games but I loved them
there is also a ps1/saturn ironman game called "Iron Man and X-O Manowar in Heavy Metal"
minimme "haha imagine a cool immersive-sim like Iron Man game that'd be neat"
eidos montreal: "haha hope you like quick-time events"
I didnt have a ps3 when this released back then so i had to play it on ps2. Tbh with you, it wasn't bad as IM2 on ps3.
I remember seeing as a kid there was a Ghost Rider game on the ps2 based off the crappy Nichloas cage movie. Can you sqeeze that one in lol
its a p fun DMC ripoff, also the unlockables post game were great
It was actually a good game.
i aint going to lie i liked this game first playing it as a kid
“Disney don’t seem to care about videogames”
Cries in club penguin
Well…. At least Iron Man 2 had alternate suits
Iron Man was absolutely done perfect in Marvel’s Avengers, from his gameplay and to his character. Nolan North is a perfect Tony Stark.
Sure but I do wish the game play had a lot more freedom in to explore Iron Man in the same you can with Spider-Man in the insomniac Spider-Man games and hulk in ultimate destruction
@@mickeymouse7726 well that game is an ensemble not a solo game. Iron Man VR does that and if they ever make a 3rd person Iron Man solo game that’d be perfect.
I like how youtube has this listed as the chronicles of riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
The best Iron Man game is Tony Hawk's Underground
I played the hell out of the second movie tie in game for the longest time. Dual mini gun + dual rocket pod War Machine was a hilarious loadout.
Great,Now Review "Iron Man 3: The Game" The one made By Gameloft
I KNEW THERE WAS AN IRON MAN PHONE GAME!
I remember renting this from my local video game & movie rental store & I played it for about an hour and never touched it since, gave me flash backs of the superman returns game
Do Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen by Luxoflux. Such a fun game with insane replay value.
And also wfc series
I remember playing that online so much.
please do a vid on the pirates of the caribbean tie in games for the ps2,they are some of the best movie tie in games out there
I played that first iron man game on ps2 probably why the cut scenes were trash
On the topic of ports, the psp version of the 1st game, from what i remember played exactly like the second game level design wise, with unlockable armors, which (I THINK) had their own abilities, idk that might have been something i made up, but it did feature all the cutscenes from the ps3 and xbox versions, which looked better on a smaller screen, it also had behind the scenes videos, with rdj and they were fun to watch
Review Disney Planes
Iron man on PSP was one of my favourite games as a kid
Woah how did people comment two days ago? Is this a old video? ;-;
Patreons I believe
@@BudgetBuildsOfficial No, magic.
Okay, but here me out. There's a DS version of the Iron Man 2 game that was basically a Metroid game. Granted, it probably wasnt a very GOOD Metroid game, but still, maybe they got closer to being good Iron Man simulators?
Daredevil would be really interesting to see done as a video game. You got mobsters, ninjas, demons, and occasionally the Punisher.
