I'm sorry to rain on all these parades but up to date and let me be clear, I have them all, that's what I do, I buy them and play with them. When it comes to Big Band sample libraries nobody, even after all these years, nobody comes close to the Swing series. The level of effort and dedication that was put into, is something none of these cats are willing to go through. So much so that even they (PS) have been scrambling all these years to come up with something better. Nothing yet.

Great review, but such a sub-par library...

Thank you! Having legato would definitely upgrade it imo.

I listened to the demo tracks on the Big Fish Audio website and watched your review and bought it two days ago. I almost instantly regretted it. (Not blaming you, as it was just a "first look".) The demo tracks sound nice, and the instruments by themselves have some charm. But once I tried to put them together to an arrangement I noticed that so many of the samples are out of tune. Take f.e. the tuba: if you play it with highest velocity, the tone gets clearer and is almost usable. If you hit the keys less strong however, the tone often misses the actual pitch, sometimes too high, sometimes too low. That might be due to the natural difficulty to play this instrument, or because it is "vintage" and thus it sounds a bit "out of tune". But it is horrible when you try to bring more instruments together and play in harmonies. Next I tried the Alto Sax 1 patch and Baritone Sax 1 patch to play together, just to notice that some notes that should be the same pitch are actually not, but about a quarter tone pitch apart. I wonder if they will fix this in a future update, or if there is a chance to get the money back. I remember buying a library with Celtic Instruments from Big Fish Audio many years ago that had exactly the same issue (hence I never used it again).

I understand you missing the legato, but with due respect, your saxes n woodwinds melody lines are more of the symphonic orchestral nature and not really reflect the big band style. Great demonstration of the quality of the sounds though. Thanks for the walkthrough !

Totally understand that! However, I still think basic legato, especially for swing lines would be a necessary component.
