Is mixing something you have just worked out as you've gone along? Today we've launched a brand new online course in how to mix music to help you present your music as it deserves to be heard.
Introduction to Mixing is the course that will take you from mixing zero to hero. It's completely genre agnostic so if you are an indie songwriter, EMD artist, or orchestral composer, this is for you. It covers the foundations of the mixers craft from gain staging to EQ, balancing, reverb and much more. You will work on multi track projects included in the course and join a host of others in the dedicated Discord community.

Would you do a video about how you play the keyboard and what piano skills and fingerings you need to compose music for an orchestra? I understand the theory and it looks really cool when you're playing, but I have no idea where to begin practicing my fingers. I'm guessing you have built up a library of tricks to get the different sections sounding awesome

I think the best thing to do is just play around with your keyboard a lot... I know, Sounds dumb but honestly, for me, it works really well. I started using a small midi keyboard at first, I never played anything into my DAW, but I used it with step input and plying around on it for fun. Just single chords ect.
With time I got a bit better and by now I play nearly everything in with my s88.
Shure, it's probably not the "right" way to play, but it works😅 .
So at least my advice would be to play around and practice every day and in a few weeks I bet you you'll already be able to play simple things straightto your DAW.😊

So far I have made all my mixing in the bar. Maybe it is time to raise that bar, and learn something new? Honestly Guy, I might try it out but it is soon the busiest time of year, so I will have to wait. Good to know this course exists, though. Thanks.

Hey Guy, your new course looks great, thanks for releasing new courses. I purchased your music composition course and I think it's an amazing course. If I could make a suggestion for a brand new course, it would have to be a course on the topic of "how to arrange an entire orchestra in a piece of music. How and when to use the woodwinds, trumpets and son on together in a way that a trained orchestrator would. I just don't have the time or money for the proper full-time course that you offer but would love to learn orchestration and arrangement. Just a suggestion, all the best Guy

Hey Guy, I use the native instruments symphony series in Cubase 13 pro for composing and was wondering if you know whether individual instruments need to be gain staged?

I was thinking of buying the Orchestral Mixing course before this was dropped. Most of my music is orchestral, but is this course going to be more valuable, I wonder?

Is this meant to be an improved version or replacement of the old course Orchestral Mixing with Jake Jackson? I have that one, but don't think there's a discount to the new one.

@@ThinkSpaceEducation Thanks. I've been playing for decades, but working through ear fatigue, etc. is crazy. Spend 6 hours mixing something, have a sleep and the next morning it sounds rubbish. Fixing work flow to actually have a product that is ON tape/disk and match what I hear has been a challenge for years.

Mixing is the one thing I can’t do. I lost a lot of my hearing of bass sounds, which makes it rough.

    • @johnmcvicker6728

I know that as we get older we lose high frequencies. I think I am at about 11,000 Hz now and slowly falling. I remember hearing 15k about 8 years ago. Anyway - do you know if there is a term for losing low/bass frequencies? I want to look into learning more about that. I heard a presentation with a question from the crowd about what to do about band members who have lost their low-end hearing (bass player who couldn't hear bass through IEMs).
