The setting of Technomancer, even if it looks like Fallout in space at first, is great. Love the details like "guns" being not so commonly used because they're actually repurposed tools. And the alien creatures are properly weird, instead of just a mix of earth animals with the occasional antenna or additional pair of limbs. I hope Spiders will reuse the setting in a later game. In execution though, Greedfall is better in every way.
The Technomancer was a sequel/spiritual successor to Mars: War Logs, which was my favourite game of 2013. I still remember it fondly as it was this small indie title from a new studio. Low budget but just different. Buggy but not broken. I have no clue how it holds up, I think I played it on Xbox 360! But I did love it at the time.
Ever played "The Thing"? I think it sold a million, but I never see anyone talking about it. It has some unique mechanics, at the time, one where you didn't know which one of your companions is the enemy and it could be different every play through. The Technomancer. I really wish this gets a proper remake one day. It was good. Rough, a product that was dated when it came out, but it hooked me. It made me feel like I was in Ghosts of Mars / Total Recall (original) movies at various times, with a flare of magic.

Hi! Piotr from EXOR Studios here, creators of The Riftbreaker. Thank you for showcasing our game in your video. Community recommendations are invaluable to us indie developers, so we are forever grateful for the coverage! A lot of good things are coming to The Riftbreaker, including an expanded story campaign, new world expansions, and, as you mentioned, the coveted co-op mode. There's a lot to look forward to. I feel conflicted about Riftbreaker; it's not a game I'd recommend if you're the type of person that wants to complete every aspect of it. It stalls itself really abruptly, and then you grind your way into things; as it is right now, it lacks some better tools for the investigation part of the game and weapon variety; I put over 60 hs in the game, and the last 10 were rushing objectives cause I didn't want to play the game anymore. There's a significant complex and exploitable base-building system within a tedious fetch quest for everything you have to 100%, and why would you do that you'd ask. Well the game has the specific mechanic, DNA, that not only affects enemies but any sort of environment on the map. DNA help you farm resources from everything, and deal more damage to every specific DNA you collect. The catch is, the environment's DNA can only be taken with a Tool, or a drone that does the same thing 10 times and its gone. This came off as a Rant, cause it is, I'd wish they've implemented something like a building that let me research full map without having to punish me cause I didn't research enough. T.L.D.R.: I'm salty because of the grindy aspects of the game. Also Showgunners and Hard west 2 are incredible when it comes to atmosphere.
Honestly I really loved Miasma Chronicles, bought it a couple of days after it came out and enjoyed the hell out of it. Even though the voice acting for Elvis felt weird to me at first I eventually grew to love it, same goes to everyone else's voice acting, I think they all did an amazing job. The story is a little bit simplistic compared to other turn based games like DOS2 but the story still hooked me nevertheless.
Sable has been my favourite in the last few years, the joy of exploration, walking into the unknown, has been lost in the age of the collectable "Ubi Map". I'd love a sequel, but perfect as is. Hoping Jusant announced at Xbox showcase scratches that itch.
An excellent hidden gem trpg is Brigandine: Legend of Runersia. Don't think I've seen you cover it yet. It's got a very fun squad based combat where you can take out a leader to remove a whole squad, or focus down the monsters who have permadeath. Great class variety between the human and monster choices and absolutely tons of content. I enjoy going back to it in between games. Don't really recommend 100% the in game events though because it requires multiple playthroughs of each of the 6 nations with very specific circumstances like avoiding killing a specific nation for several in game years to trigger a cutscene.
I really have to make another go of Hard West 2, since I really liked the setting. This might not be considered as much of a hidden gem, but I would definitely give WarTales a look. As far as what I'm playing in this release dry-spell, after watching Taureor's video on it, I decided to give the mod Equestria at War a try. And so far, I am really enjoying it.
Problem with giving you some of my favorit hidden gems, is that I suspect we have some different tastes. But if you have not tried it, I suspect you would enjoy "Guild of Dungeoneering".
I own a lot of PC games, but I've come back to Guild of Dungeoneering a lot over the years. I don't actually play that much games, but I have with GoD.
Once again you are encouraging me to give Technomancer another try. I have never gotten to far in my two or three attempts... even though I completed and 100% Mars: War Logs Sudeki would be my personal hidden gem =P
Whoever’s reading this, I pray that whatever your going through gets better and whatever your struggling with or worrying about is going to be fine and that everyone has a fantastic day! Amen Keep up the good work, you never let your fans down with great entertainment 😎
I was interested in Technomancer mainly because of my love of Babylon 5, which has both Mars colonies, and a group called Technomancers (though they work VERY differently). I liked it. I didn't finish it for some reason, can't recall any big issues just....kind of stopped playing one day and never reloaded it. But it was a fun Bioware-like game, with some fun combat systems. Definitely worth a look for anyone who likes things like KOTOR, or Greedfall, or the ME/DA games by Bioware. It's got that same feel, just a bit more indy budget style. Fun game though
Man you got me intigued for Technomancer now :-O I myself just finished Octopath traveler 2 100% and started Bards tale 4 and just 5hours in i feel like i missed out alot for not playing it earlyer
For me: - The Phantom Doctrine - Final Fantasy X's Blitz Ball mode (and the world exploration component to find new players) - Vampire Survivors - Darkest Dungeon - Absolver - Daymare
Been playing Neverwinter Nights 2 myself, one of the few games that lets me officially play as a dark elf. It should tide me over until Baldur's Gate 3 releases.
Great list! I’m interested in trying out show gunners. I think my favorite game that’s not played much would be Transistor, by supergiant games. It’s got an excellent mix of strategy and story!
I really liked technomancer for the first few hours - amazing setting, combat on hardest difficulty was challenging but fun. But as it went on the crap voice acting start to grate on me, and the excessive backtracking (with respawning enemies) made the world become very tiresome. I think Spiders learned some valuable lessons for greedfall, where the voice acting was a step up
I expected to see Troubleshooter: Abandoned Children here as before your review I have never heard about it. Some more games worth the title: Battle Chasers: Nightwar, Aarklash: Legacy, Legends of Eisenwald, Masquerada: Songs and Shadows, Shadows: Awakening, Drakensang: The River of Time, Fort Triumph, Black Book, Star Renegades, Ash of Gods: Redemption, Mordheim: City of the Damned, Victor Vran, Seven: EE, Dead State, Gedonia, Encased The Last Stand: Aftermath, The Last Spell, Asterigos: Curse of the Stars, Urtuk: The Desolation, Vagrus: The Riven Realms, Hand of Fate 2, Tainted Grail: Conquest Operencia: The Stolen Sun, Ember, Druidstone, Dead Age 2, Arboria, Space Rangers HD, Venetica, Rise of the Argonauts, Planet Alcatraz.
Some other relatively obscure but good game are: Knights of the Chalice (1&2) , Blackguards and Lords of Xulima. All are party based CRPGs with turn-based combat
I am playing Enderal Forgotten stories - an awesome free mod for Skyrim. It has just great old school atmosphere, really great RPG mechanics, jaw-dropping world (I heavily modded it as well) and great characters and story. Cannot recommend enough.
I can never not recommend "The Messenger" to anyone, especially since it's apparently somehow connected to upcoming JRPG Sea of Stars by the same Dev. It is a tight platformer with metroidvania elements but is so worth it, even if that's not your typical jam.
At the moment, I'm re-playing a little game you might have heard of. It's called Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous. It's pretty good. You should try it. 😅
I like The Technomancer. The story and setting are interesting. Plus there was this kind of studio evolution as a sequel to Mars: War Logs...I was interested in seeing the next one, but sadly for me, no such luck. I should check out some of these other ones maybe. Thanks!
Not sure if I can think of any hidden gems. I picked up a few demos, and while most were good, they were still just demo. Not really fair to just a game based upon its best part if its the only part the publishers share with you. Onward to 200k. All glory to the algorithm.
Really hoping that Hard West 2 would get a console release, it seems great, similarly to Expeditions: Rome. Most turn-based games eventually come to console, so it's such a bummer when ones that look so great have no news on them...
Have you tried Tenderfoot Tactics? It might not be for everyone, but it's seems unduly overlooked and could probably stand to get any little boost you could give it with your platform.
Mortym, stop giving me new games to buy, my money is already spread thin on the game I intend to get as it is... Funny thing is, I played two of the five games you present and there's one that is already on my list. Then again, that's not really a surprise considering I present you as "my favorite youtuber" ^^
I don't really played other games but technomancer was weirdly good game. I remember that game had only one boss fight. Idk why but I really liked the game even if it is technically horrible.
is still think that the technomancer and mars war logs are their best universe 4 water companies that became main governments with their own social and political views and clothes and idea on who in society technomancers should be (also technomancers wield my favorite element) so far we had only 2/4 corporations presented and many smaller settlements (which is why i hope for future games) strong focus on story and choices and consequences instead of graphics and combat will always be worthy of praise but when mixed with strong focus on crafting and a bit of romance then for me it's already best game possible
The one thing I hated about Riftbreaker when I played it years ago was that 90% of your base are the same building, the energy storage. I made the whole "base building" part of the game boring for me
The only thing holding me back from playing Technomancer is it feels as though I have to play Mars Wars Logs first. In the same manner that I am hesitant with playing a game or two of the Tales of series because of gatekeepers, just to a less insane fanatical degree.
im building a new budget gaming pc right now and as soon as i do i'll be getting riftbreaker. i've wanted to play it for a long time now and i can't wait to get into it. hoping it'll play well in 1440p
My hidden gems are: Remnant: From the Ashes, The Riftbreaker, Xenonauts, Void Bastards and Jupiter Hell. I’m currently looking for more Tactical RPG’s because X-COM is one of my favourite franchises and Xenonauts 2 is out next month. Mars Tactics looks really cool too. I hope Jagged Alliance 3 is good…
One obscure tactical game (comparable to Xcom, but with mech customization rather than experience and skills) is Bionic Dues. (It can be found on gog). I was utterly engrossed in it a few years back. Very addictive once you get a grasp of its mechanics.
i'm currently playing Aliens dark descent and i'm loving it. A real care for the lore and design of Aliens, exploration is a big part of the game with its large maps full of thing to find. And the gameplay is something curious but really cool once you understand how it works. To summarize, squad based horror tactical game with a lot of ambiant scenery
The dev for Rifbreaker also made X-Morph which is one of my favorite TD games. Def a developer to keep an eye on. If I had a hidden gem for this yr it would be Aces and Adventures and Im not all in on card like games. I think the presentation is exceptional from full VA and constant updates from the dev. it has tons of content and continues to be supported. I liked the Technomancer, but no way I would recommend and its too bad, has a really good first few hrs. But that backtracking...ugh.
Hey Morty, your video of Aliens: Extraction made me nostalgic to play some of those classic RTS games like StarCraft and AOE. I am wondering if you can make any suggestions? I have done a few searches here but it seems like I have played most of the prominent titles at some point another and I am not too keen on revisiting the ones I have played. Most titles seem to be the Sid Myer style 4x template that focus more on diplomatic relations which isn't what I am looking for and I am not too keen on revisiting the games I have already played (especially AOE). I was hoping you may have come across some titles during your own research. I am wanting something futuristic, similar to Starcraft. Never been a big fan of historical settings for these type of games. Thanks in advance.
Steam summer sale is in a few days (probably starts on the 29th through the 13th of July) can you make a crpg/trpg/whatever recommendations list video?
Have you thought about Ko-fi? I would love to support you, but I'd prefer not to commit to it. I don't really care about benefits. And you sure as hell deserve some extra compensation for your work.
I try to keep platforms and things I have to manage to a minimum so I can focus on the games, the easiest way would just be to use the super thanks option on a video which is just a one time thing
I think a lot of Americans played a lot of euro strat games in the 90s and 00s and didn't realize it or didn't care about that kind of stuff at the time lol
Still wish you'd check out voidspire tactics or the ys games while there are no new releases. Voidspire is like 10-15 hours long, probably will take you a few days to 100%, and the older 2.5D ys games are short ish too, like 20 hours each, while the newer ones are 50+ hours.
If you ever can get commandos to run on a modern machine, then you should really check it out. It is an amazing game. For a bit less well known I think: Valkyria chronicles remains one of my favourite games, despite it's flaws. And finally outside of the RPG genre, Monster Sanctuary has the best turn based combat i have ever seen. It's a haven for any theorycrafters, but does not require it from the player. It is sadly just to easy for a big part of the early game.
Technomancer! Man, I loved that game! I think the companions were very interesting, and the art direction from Spiders in general is so ambitious- I can really appreciate that they work within their limits while still trying their best to make their games visually memorable with interesting worldbuilding. I look forward to every new game they come out with simply because they seem to always have really cool concepts and ideas. IMO they are the best bet if you're someone who is missing the Dragon Age Origins era of RPGs. They aren't perfect but they do scratch that early/mid-2000s RPG itch.
One thing to keep in mind is that the next summer sale should start soon (29.06 I think.

The only thing holding me back from playing Technomancer is it feels as though I have to play Mars Wars Logs first. In the same manner that I am hesitant with playing a game or two of the Tales of series because of gatekeepers, just to a less insane fanatical degree.
Yeah for RIftbreaker I'm waiting for multiplayer for sure, I have a best friend on the internet and we like to play these kinda games together.
I picked up Showgunners. Thanks for the heads up. Enjoying my time in it.
your soothing voice reminds me of "what we do in the shadows" tv show, the energetic vampire.
Spiders' games are an acquired taste, but man even with the jank, they have that something that old Biwoare ones cold give me.
free comment.
Literally just woke up and a new video pops up for my morning. NICE
The whole July should be long enough, to go through The Banner Saga.😅 Thanks for your Content. Greets
Technomancer is actually pretty good and pretty polished with better char builds than greedfall.
Anyone remember Singularity on XBox 360? Loved that one.
My hidden gem is Expeditions: Conquistador. The best Expeditions title.
im building a new budget gaming pc right now and as soon as i do i'll be getting riftbreaker. i've wanted to play it for a long time now and i can't wait to get into it.
hoping it'll play well in 1440p
Also should mention technomancer has issues running on multicore cpus I bought it on PC and can't play it without restricting cores lol
Gotta be real, I enjoyed Sunday Gold but I got stuck at the first boss and quit 😪 I need to check it out again!
Lel at that riftbreaker scientist casually genociding the indigenous animal population.
I've been looking at hard west for a while now it's in my list on Xbox store I've just been holding out to see if it will go on sale.
How does hard west 2 run on steam deck?
Pretty good, most trpgs do well there
Where's Elex? Summer Sale is coming up111!! :)
Saw video pop up in my feed, but theres no inquistor (2009) review. Life ruined.
it's not from 2012 ?
@@chinezut1942 12 was steam release. 9 was og release since its czech i think.
@@lachlanjohnson6303 yes,english version was released in 2012
Dude, seriously, Knights of the Chalice. This is ridiculous.
My hidden gems are:
Remnant: From the Ashes, The Riftbreaker, Xenonauts, Void Bastards and Jupiter Hell.
Play Invisible, Inc., you won’t regret
The dev for Rifbreaker also made X-Morph which is one of my favorite TD games. Def a developer to keep an eye on. If I had a hidden gem for this yr it would be Aces and Adventures and Im not all in on card like games. I think the presentation is exceptional from full VA and constant updates from the dev. it has tons of content and continues to be supported.
I liked the Technomancer, but no way I would recommend and its too bad, has a really good first few hrs. But that backtracking...ugh.
Actual hidden gems ive never heard of, thanks for the list🙌
Batora: Lost Haven is an indie title I really enjoyed. CAme out last year.
My RTS experience is pretty much just the most well known stuff like AoE I'm afraid
Sleeping Dogs. First game in a while that i wanted to 100%.
Steam summer sale is in a few days (probably starts on the 29th through the 13th of July) can you make a crpg/trpg/whatever recommendations list video?
Yeah I plan on it when the sale actually hits
Dang C4G won't like that last one :).
Btw do you play mods Mort? Ever thought avout telling about your fav conversion ones if you indeed do?
Due to mostly doing reviews I dont use mods much at all as I need to evaluate the game on it's own
You should really give the original Hard West a try. Great game
Consider Commandos series for the next oldie game you review ;)
Have you thought about Ko-fi? I would love to support you, but I'd prefer not to commit to it. I don't really care about benefits. And you sure as hell deserve some extra compensation for your work.
I try to keep platforms and things I have to manage to a minimum so I can focus on the games, the easiest way would just be to use the super thanks option on a video which is just a one time thing
I had forgotten about The Rift Breaker, I meant to check that one out.
My backlog...my poor, aching, backlog...😫😫
FTL
Anyone with a laptop or iPad should have it. Wouldn't consider it a hidden gem, more like an indie classic at this point.
Technomacer was a janky mess but was good.
Majority (3 out 5 ) of those games are Polish. COINCIDENCE? :D
Thanks for the video, some good games I’ve yet to try. During this quiet period I’m finishing going for 100% in AC Valhalla
I'm not sure saying "it's AA title at best" is fair. And I mean that AA title are not class worse to AAA, just matter of budget. ;)
I meant that it was kind of inbetween being indie and AA.
Speaking of hidden gems, you should check out Stygian (sidescrolling Cthulhu crpg) and Star Wolves (rtwp kind of a spaceship crpg)
