There were other female characters besides Vikki and Bridgette Blue, who was introduced in this game. In the Air Attack games there was Bombshell, and she was green molded plastic just like the rest of the characters. There was also Tina Tomorrow from Toys in Space and the units that were based off her. They too were molded plastic, albeit a light blue color instead of green.
These games were everywhere in the 90s, it's crazy how on ps2 era they completely vanished and no one ever talked about them again. I thought I hallucinated their existence until Matt made this video.
I was blowing my friends mind the other day by reactivating his childhood memories about this game! This game series was one of those rare times a company was given a license and they went, “Aight, lets have some fun with this.” And we thusly got these classic shoot bangers!
If I remember, the original reason vikki was different from the rest of the green army was because colonel Grimm (who was the original sarge at the time) hooked up with Tina tomorrow from toys in space. But once the games came to home consoles, they sorta retcon her origins and instead was mainly used to help signify she was a unique soldier/npc.
@@gavindixon15 I'm kinda confused, you had the 3DO Army Men games, but not a 3DO. Did you have somewhere to play them on? Or was the 3DO Army Men games, and playing Army Men games two separate ideas? If the latter true, then no one actually did buy the 3DO, and feels like some kind of Polybius experiment where everyone seems to know about the console but have never actually owned and played it (nowadays, I probably wouldn't believe the 3DO existed outside of a weird fever dream if I didn't see the console and games for sale at the retro video game shop in my area). I had considered it once upon a time as a kid (probably about 20-something years ago now), because Gex looked awesome.
@@TheStonedZone yeah dude… idk what your smoking but yeah 3DO as a company made games not just the console, the games were in every platform, ps1, n64, ps2, GameCube, Xbox, game boy, you name it. Not sure if your joking or whatever…
@@gavindixon15 Still doesn't answer my question. In fact, that is probably the biggest non-answer you could have given. You are clearly the one who doesn't understand what I wrote. I asked a legitimate question on how you phrased your text and you couldn't even answer that. Even though I figured out that you're just stupid, and call the company 3DO (when it's actually The 3DO Company), and make no mention of the context being the company. So, saying I played the 3DO Army Men games, that could mean any of them developed by The 3DO Company, or the games specifically on the 3DO (and you saying you don't have a PANASONIC 3DO didn't include Sanyo or Goldstar, so it was opened up to meaning you don't have specifically the Panasonic one). Gotta love how Matt says he is gonna stop talking during cut scenes, then IMMEDIATELY proceeds to talk during a cut scene, which (if i remember correctly) basically explains the exact thing he proceeds to ask about directly after lmao. (The thing about plastification and why Vicky Grimm is not plastic.
I remember playing a lot of the Army Men games when I was a kid. Green Rogue, Sarge’s War, Portal Runner, Air Attack 1 and Air Attack 2 were some of my favorites. Vikki wasn’t the only flesh toned character, The Blue Female Spy had flesh tone skin too.
Why isn't this series still around I loved those games and miss them alot bring them back I want a new one already someone make this a reality game was so much fun on N64
This series was one of my youngest shooter gaming memories. I went from playing Duck Hunt and Contra on NES at home. To going to a friend's house, and playing this on his N64. Later on, I did buy the Gamecube version of Sarge's War. Which in my opinion is still an awesome equal playing field for mulitplayer.
The thing i had with Army Men, i remember having this random promotional CD-ROM that had like cut-scenes from another game (i think?), which i kept watching as some kind of movie😅. There were also some TV commercials for their other games and there was a little top down strategy game demo. I don't know why or how i got it, but i remember having it in my possession. Never really had a thing with this franchise though.
Wow, I'm now reminded of how the Army Men franchise fell to obscurity following the 6ty generation of consoles. Would live to see you revisit the Army Men Air Attack games for lolz and nostalgia.
Some of the Army Men World at War games were really weird and janky. But the whole Army Men Air Attack series I maintain still holds up real well today. The Sarges Heroes games on the other hand have not aged so well. So obviously I think you should play those most of all.
This was one of the only games I had for the N64 when I was a kid. I was like six or seven so I had no idea how to play it and I just remember running around and exploring a fort really confused.
I can’t remember where it started but I’ve probably picked up three or four of the army men games. They were great buys when found in the used/clearance sections
i remember army men rts it was so much fun.... at first i didnt recognize army men til i looked it up and found rts and saw the melted army men..... it stands out so much in my memory as such a fun game.... idk if it still holds up
I use to have that game for game cube but there was this one part that I was unable to pass because the game would crash every single time had to return it.
I'll never forget the game telling you not to press the J key in the PC versions tutorial which if you do has the narrator voice go "what you've just done can never be taken back."
One of the missions was when when you play as Vicky and you have to blow up the Rockets they were a couple times where I didn’t blow up the Rockets on time and I lost the game and had to redo the mission
We have the tech to literally make a new army men game that looks like the cutscenes or even better, just imagine a legit good remake of the army men series with a great story and gameplay that would be the day 😩
Yo! I LOVED this game as a kid! I bought it on Ps2 a few years ago, and god is it jank. Idk how many hours it took my young self to adapt to those awful controls. The cartoon 'toys to life' style was my vibe tho.
Oh yeah, by the way, that is freaking Jim Cummings as the voice of Sarge. (If you don't know who he is, rest assured you had no childhood with anything Disney or classic 90s American animation in it.)
If you do try Warriors of Might & Magic, you should also check out Crusaders of Might & Magic, the godawful action RPG they made before that on PSX/PC!
Funny alot of 3DO games for the PS2 in the early 2000's, also had PS1 ports. As they go by the same name but semi different/semi the same games, and both ports uses the same cut scenes too.
More green plastic carnage can be found in SARGE'S WAR! ➤ ua-cam.com/video/QCSd0nLP4ek/v-deo.html
Would love to see this series on the "What happened?" Side of this channel. One of my favorite game series as a kid that just seemed to fade away.
Already covered it in the 3DO episode.

Thank you lore master
The sarge's heroes games and body harvest were my jams, both are CRIMINALLY underrated
Those 'army' games had great two player modes.
Rockstar also did space station silicon valley random fact
I love how they really leaned in and committed to the theme
Man, I wish the Army Men games would come back. The premise of like a war world but it's like plastic men and barbies is super neat.
Eh the series sucked imo _minus_ sarges heroes.
You’d like Hypercharge: Unboxed. It’s the same concept just you play as more badass looking action figures. It plays like Unreal tournament.

the villian lady is giving me vibes of the Food fight movie, Brand X lady....
Oh dear lord yet I've prefer her love her voice

I own each and every 3DO army men game, grew up playing them with my dad loved every second of it!!
Now I’m 24 and i still play them, great memories

One step closer to Matt playing Army Men Air Attack.
I can't remember which one it was but i remember playing an Army Men game and it was an absolute gem :)
These games were my childhood! Loved them and air attack. I always remember the bathtub level and the one with the spiders
There's another army men game starring Vicki called portal Runner (PS2) you should probably try and check that one out next.
Holy shit I forgot about this whole series I used to love these games
The first Air Combat was my favorite

Awee the memories of these games. Started collecting 3DO games!?... Love the content as always!!
the multiplayer for this was the besttttttttttttt
Jim Cummings really is everywhere in these games, Cummings all over the floor, Cummings on the wall, Cummings on the thanksgiving turkey!

This was my favorite game as a kid growing up with only a Nintendo 64
"Good to Go." "Party Time." "Yes." "Mines." "Wah ha ho yeah."
I love these videos. Keep up the good work. And the more talking the better.
This is part of my childhood. Good memories.
I played the shit out of these games on the N64. I love how cheesy they are. I really missed out by not playing the PS2 version, though.
