    I apologize for my comment the other day. I guess that I'm envious of all the new high quality machine shop equipment that you have. Mine was acquired over 40 years of tough use, so the wear history shows it. Keep up your scientific education of rifle shooting. Rifle is science, handgun is skill, and shotgun is art .........

    You should have some dummy rounds for checking to make sure the gun is functioning, especially in the shop. Had a buddy doing the same thing and blew a hole in the wall. Luckily he had embankment next to his shop that stopped the bullet and no one got hurt.

    You made me so nervous when you racked that first round without checking to see if there were any problems with the new trigger etc... Had a Buddy install a new triggertech and when he closed the bolt it would fire. Good thing he wasn't using live ammo.

    Guess I am just too old the language of shooters has changed and is a bit hard to get used to. My interpretation of custom is taking an action, installing a barrel ( turned to custom specs and length from straight blank), custom chamber with tight neck based on desired neck thickness along with throat to match desired bullet loaded to desired length. Numerous modification on the action and above all a stock made to fit from a solid blank of wood hopefully at least 2.3/8" thick along with hand checkering in a good point pattern, checkered steel but plate etc. If you want to see what I am talking about to the gunvault on Chanplin's site or Ed Lapour custom. I like Gary Goudy of the guys still in the business.
    sorry for the rant I realize I am out of date, what is important is go forth and have fun making your firearms and calibers suit you!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep the videos coming.

      MDT already has that Oryx chassis that is a long single piece forend to buttstock...they could maybe just do that exact design, nitride it, then sell it for $199? Or if that's too much weight, go with their LSS or LSS XL?

      Material is cheaper but would take several times longer to machine, time on the CNC mill is far more expensive than the aluminium or carbon steel.

    Any modification necessary to get the Atlus action in the chassis? With it being a "semi 700 clone" i have read that many need to modify chassis slightly so that the action beds properly. But in videos from Kelbly on YT they said without hesitation that the action will work with any rem 700 stock or chassis.

    I love that chassis but I'm disappointed that it comes in two pieces. I was hoping the buttstock would have been one piece with the chassis for better rigidity.

    • @williamheinbuch
      @williamheinbuch 5 років тому +2

      jaybigboy34 was thinking the same thing. I’ve met some of the guys from MDT, and the vibe i get from them is they do this so their chassis can accept AR style accessories i.e. buttstocks and grips. This thing however... all of the peices are MDT, so charge extra or less, whatever I don’t know if machining as one piece would be less or more expensive, but make it all one piece, and make two version, one that is all one piece and proprietary and one that you can use AR parts on.

    • @CokeMk7

      the whole point is for the design to be modular and changed out by someone to make it exactly how they want, hence the name modular driven technology. I understand your point but if you want a one piece design why not just get a MPA?

    Please tell me you were using dummy cartridges when you cycled the action at about 7:25, you didn't say they were dummies, and I noticed the primers in place when you ejected the cartridges. When I make up dummy cases I leave the primer pockets completely empty, not even a fired primer in place to ensure safety. It would be extremely careless to cycle live rounds through the action in the shop, a powerful round like that is capable of penetrating an entire house, and possibly the house next door.

      @joeyheyne3255 5 років тому

      I'm curious what personal experiences you've had with IOR that would make you not recommend them. I've seen lots of positive reviews. Another good option for glass is Vortex's Razor HD Gen 1. It has Japanese glass, 120 MOA of internal elevation, true zero stop mechanism, Vortex's version of a christmas tree style reticle, one of the best (if not the best) warranty in the industry, and at $1700 at most sporting goods stores, is HEAPS cheaper than the S&Bs or Nightforce.

    • @JacksonMalcolm
      @JacksonMalcolm 5 років тому

      If you spend much time researching you'll find out pretty fast that IOR can be shady. But yes there are some great Japanese options and honestly I think you'd be surprised at the prices of PMiis right now. For a while they were $2100-2200 for a P4f which isn't half bad. Also there's a %50 sale on the ZP5 if you buy a mauser (M18 I think) but that brings the price down to razor levels. So many great options right now.

      @@JacksonMalcolm Was curious if you had any PERSONAL experiences with Valdada. I've seen good and bad reviews for a number of their scopes, some people say quality was their issue and some say they weren't happy with the customer service, but there are also a lot of people who just say, "I read somewhere that they weren't good." No worries though, I'll stick with my Vortex products and hope that Gavin finds luck with the optic he chose!

    • @JacksonMalcolm
      @JacksonMalcolm 5 років тому

      I suppose you don't chamber a round on carry guns do you?

    • @jameskliewer5809
      @jameskliewer5809 5 років тому

      @@scottkindley That information is not public. However, a pistol round is not at all the same thing as a rifle round, and the trigger design is likewise different. I said "please". That is, if it pleases you not to do it, it will likewise please me that you do not do it.

    • @scottkindley
      @scottkindley 5 років тому +1

      1-Treat every firearm as if it were loaded.
      2-Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
      3-Be sure of your target and aware of what is beyond it.
      4-Keep your finger outside of the trigger guard until you are ready to shoot.
      Those are the generally accepted rules of gun safety. Nothing about "chambering " a round. Nothing distinguishes different rules for "pistol" vs "rifle". It specifically states "every" firearm. Chambering a round isn't unsafe. No amount of "I know better than you" trolling changes that.
      Additionally it's obvious this man is making a firearm, which included machining his own barrel. It's also obvious that testing the function of the firearm is paramount to the safe and proper operation of the rifle. It's also painfully obvious this man isn't acting in a reckless and/or negligent manner in demonstrating and testing the function. Obviously it "pleases" him to test his rifle and doesn't require or need your approval to do so. So if you are displeased with seeing a firearm "chambered" you might want to consider watching videos about basket weaving to reassure your sensitivities and calm your unreasonable fears. I say that because I didn't watch him ask for anyone's opinion or permission as to how, when, or where he makes his rifle. Saying "please" doesn't grant one any special considerations so get over yourself.

    • @paul.g.h
      @paul.g.h 5 років тому

      @@scottkindley Chambering the first live rounds and closing the bolt on a "just built" rifle is a critical part of the build and test process. Just making sure the rifle's pointing somewhere unquestionably safe while you do it is proper dyed-in-the-wool gun safety common sense. Simples.

    • @scottkindley
      @scottkindley 5 років тому +1

      Paul Hudson and what exactly makes one think his muzzle wasn't pointed in a safe direction? Again ... the generally accepted 4 rules of safe firearm handling has not been demonstrated to have been broken.
