I probably do, but even watching this i can not really tell. That is how bad I am I suppose. I will focus more and watching my recorded self. Appreciate the advice as always.
I do not get it. If a 120 lb. guy snaps me with a super fast punch, it might hurt. If a 300 lb. guy, with a slower punch with huge power, lands one on my jaw, I am going down.
@J M your average 120 lb. man has less strength compared to a 300 lb. man. Strength is more important than form or technique or speed, I believe. I'd rather take a speeding leather strap to my face, than a sledgehammer.
@J M only if they have equal strength. That is not likely. I will take strength over speed any day. Of the two guys, whichever has the greater strength is the guy I would believe would win, barring glass jaws.
What impresses me most is that he's able to effectively demonstrate how to do it wrong. There goes a very long way in helping teach us what to look for.
Oh man, i started boxing ( first time ever ) 5 months ago, Went from 128kg to 113, and from thinking i can punch, to actually doing it! Watched almost all your videos, and has helped me in so many ways! Thank you!
Best thing to do is not self teach yourself off UA-cam and do technical work at home… work on your fitness and conditioning at home… go to a amateur gym… whether it be with England boxing… or whatever governing body amateur gyms are registered with in your country…. Don’t go for white collar learn it properly
@@deanrichards2 I think i did not say enough, i started in a gym and have not stopped. This week got my first private lessons, o S*** that changed my perception lol. This is definitely something a lot of people do and Tony makes great points in this video. Pushes your punches not only tires you out, but it creates bad habits of not bringing your hands back quick enough on defense and will get you knocked out by someone who know how to set you up.
I was an amateur boxer years ago so know a little bit. Honestly your videos are very informative especially for a beginner. You're doing well mate keep it up
Oh boy it's almost as if this video was specifically made for me 😂. I noticed that my jabs started to be way more snappy and even less telegraphed when I focussed on rotating my hips (and my hips only) when throwing them. Thanks coach!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
I’m having a debate with someone about this, when you guys say “rotating the hips” is it central rotation or is the pivot point at the side of the hip?
@@liamscott1905 well, for me it was just focusing on aligning the hip with the punch. It was sort of a whipping motion that immediately changed my punch, but you shouldn't trust me as I'm pretty much a beginner :)
this is the only channel that i'm looking for. never went to other channel boxing tutor cuz they're harder to understand compare to this perfect channel.
This whole "pushing" the punches can get really confusing for beginners and I know because I've been there too. You start questioning: "what the hell does it mean I'm pushing the punches?" And can't get an answer. A pretty useful trick that worked for me was going a step behind your "think about speed when punching". That means I was thinking about making contact with the bag, and as soon as I felt an impact I would snap my hand back to neutral. When I got comfortable I started thinking about speed and then power, just like you said.
@@Tony_Jeffries not sure but probably. I’m from a small farm community so I don’t think there’s any gyms near me and I’m 27 with two young boys. Dear Mr. Tony Jeffries, You´re right saying that punching with force quenches power and speed, matters most, as it bring power and some tactical edge over a stronger but slower opponent. Perhaps, pointing out the differences in the surfaces to be hit, i.e. applying a bit longer or shorter focus would also of worth trying. Best regards, Paul, 66, retired eionstructor of Gopju ryu Karate.
So many years of TaeKwonDo left me with very robotic stiff punching technique and comparatively poor movement. Videos like this is why this channel has been of so much help.
